I disagree. Favre has been a thorn in their side every off-season for the last three/four years. He finally called it quits. They moved on, to the guy who they drafted to replace Favre. Whether Rodgers stinks it up or not, they did the right move at the time.

Why welcome him back with open arms? Whether he got pushed out or not, the guy retired. You have given Rodgers the starting job by default. Rodgers is thinking "I finally got my shot" and then you bring Favre back. What does that say to Rodgers? "Do they believe in me"? This organization needs to move on without Favre. If they plan on relying him to comeback every year, they will be screwed in the future.

 

The only power he holds is getting more money if he is reinstated...Packers would be happy to not pay him as long as he doesnt play.

So, no, I dont buy he the player is in the driver seat...cause what he wants is Free Agency so he can negotiate a new contract with no strings to Packers.

Packers are in the driver seat and own his rights.....nothing has changed. Their decision is to pay him and continue to own him.....and sit him if they can stand the heat....or they can trade him...but Brett, the Commish, the fans, cant force their hand and make them release him.

If Favre hadn't retired the Packers would have been content with Rodgers as a backup; now that's all of a sudden a crime that he may have too wait longer. Favre is a sure deal and Rodgers can blow up in their face. I think they should let Favre be the starter but if not trade him (if he will be a big problem just bargain bin him but never release him).

Its just being made worse by the Packers organization...yes Favre is a diva but what big QB isn't. Just end it by a trade or I don't know bench him if they want to be that way, it isn't that hard of a decision.

No. Look here's what happens, after his last game of the season sometimes even before that they start talking will this be bretts last game. Then the media not his office ask brett are you retiring. He says I don't know I have to think about it discuss it with my family blah blah blah. And he should take a little bit to decide, because yes it is a big decision. If anything the media makes a big deal of it IMO.

 

The keywords are "If Favre hadn't retired". The fact is that he did retire and they moved on. To bring him back would be not be a good thing. Sure, he may get them more wins. But tell me this, if they bring Favre back, how do you think Rodgers feels in this? You know, the guy who they have as their replacement for Favre when he retires which he did. Also, consider this. more than half of the locker room is not in favor of bringing Favre back. Now, do you consider bringing Favre back?

 

You make a good point that the media makes it a big deal but I don't think its any easier on the Packers when he takes a month or two deciding whether he should retire or not.

 

Um as a GM I don't care because if my team doesn't win I get fired. Rodgers is getting paid the same this year either way, so why would it matter that much. He will be in Favre's shadow for years anyway. Its all a business and I say go with Favre.

Also the the team will get over it and take Favre back without a problem.

 

well to me that happens for a couple of reasons. Number one it happens every year because football is way different then a regular business, it moves in seasons and one year to the next can really take a toll on your mind and body. Which is why it is more likely that you get players who every year ponder retirement as they get up in age. As for the couple of months again to me it seems longer because the question is asked even before the season is over. And at that time I don't think anyone would be thinking about retiring in the middle of the season.
I don't agree with the way bret has come back or the fact he even came back to be honest. But then again if the packers did move on like you said then they need to move their *** to trade him or release him.

 

Your possibly going to get fired in bringing Favre back. If half of the guys in the locker room are not in favor of bringing the guy back, then why bring him back? You bring him back, the locker room personalities could blow up and there goes your job.

How are you so certain? I watched an interview on Cold Pizza with Al Harris. He said that the team has full confidence in Rodgers and are ready to move forward with him. As a GM, I'm not going to risk my team blowing up in the locker room.

 

Also I seen on the NFL Network that the vets wanted him back and that the rest of team would welcome him back with open arms.

Also taking Favre back would be safer than betting on Rodgers who as I said could totally suck and leave the Pack in some trouble come playoff time. So as a GM I would do that. Also as a GM I would never have let this drag on for this long, this drama is what should get Thompson fired more than anything.

I agree. But them being a bunch of dummies, they hold out for a first round pick. Do they seriously think someone will offer them that, for a guy who may play a year or two at the longest? The team needs to settle on a second or third and move on with this guy.
