I always laugh when Sparano says that. I envision him in his cave in Davie "grinding" away thinking he's solving problems by working more hours than actually getting to the root of the problem. If he really thinks Karl Dorrell is going to salvage Chad Henne or develop a rookie...I guess I'll give him credit for sticking his balls prominently on the line.

 

We were 12-4 and won the division in 1985, and Dan Marino tossed 30 TDs. Sign me up!

It's only boring if one team is blowing out the other (unless we're blowing out KC, then I'm fine with that). I can't see how our defense is boring to watch...... ditto goes for Jamaal Charles, Bowe, McCluster, Brandon Marshall, and Anthony Fasano.

I just think it's odd that in his 3 seasons as head coach, we've burned through a defensive coordintor, a special teams coordinator, and an offensive coordinator. When's the buck going to stop at Sparano? I appreciate his willingness to fix the defense with Mike Nolan, but promoting Darren Rizzi, and switching Karl Dorrell to a position he's never coached directly, at any level? That takes some balls. That said, I'd like to see Sparano's "math", for lack of a better word, on how he came to the conclusion that some of these moves would work/adhere to his philosophy. Just my opinion, but he shouldn't have been brought back, regardless of the Harbaugh situation. Two straight seasons with the playoffs on the line, and his team is 0-6 down the stretch.

If Brian Daboll holds true to Cleveland form, he’ll stick with the run to a fault. Except we don’t have Peyton Hillis hurdling safeties to make a run up the middle look exciting.

The offense is likely going to be better—honestly, it can’t get much worse—but I don’t anticipate an exciting, fun to watch unit. I anticipate a very Sparano-like clock-milking offense that takes 15+ plays to get down the field, albeit one that does better in the red zone.

 

Sparano recommitted to a run-heavy offense in pretty much every one of his press conferences since his contract extension.

Expect more of those Cleveland playcalls to carry over than one might otherwise think.

I hope you're right Rocky. But the guy we brought in ran one of the only 2 offenses worse than ours last season and his offense featured a running back. Which is the point the article is making. Most of the league seems to have caught on to the fact that you have to throw the ball. Sparano still wants to run that old Parcellian offense and make it work. I hope Daboll will be different, but I'm going to keep my expectations low.

 

The only offense in the NFL which was more boring than the Dolphins last year was the Browns. So what did the Dolphins do to bring some excitement to the Dolphins offense. They went out and hired the offensive coordinator of the one team who was more boring than the Dolphins last season. Just because the the coaches might be younger doesn't mean that the play on the field will be any less boring than it was with Henning in charge of the offense. If you honestly think the offense will be more fun to watch this season than it was last season. It obviously doesn't take much for you to have fun. I expect the Dolphins to be just as bad on offense this season as they were last season and when all is said and done. Sparano, Ireland, and most of the Dolphins coaching staff will be looking for new jobs after the 2011 season is over.

 

I can't wait until this is a 45-35 score game and multiple offensive records are broken that game.

 

I loved watching Hillis run the ball last season. Browns had terrible quarterbacking. Miami had better quarterbacking and better wide receiving than the Browns. Plus they did try cool things with Cribbs last season.

 

The last I checked the Dolphins don't have a Hillis on the roster to run the ball. The Browns also have a better offensive line than the Dolphins. While I agree that the Browns were weak at the QB position. I don't see Henne as being any better than the QB's on the Browns. He is not a capable starter and the fact that the Dolphins are looking so hard at the QB's in this draft shows how little faith the Dolphins have in him as their future QB. In fact it would not surprise me if Henne is not the starter by mid season and not even a member of the Dolphins when the 2012 season rolls around. I do agree that the wide receivers for the Dolphins are better than the receivers on the Browns but without a capable QB, the wide receivers play for the Dolphins is just average at best. As far as the Browns doing, "cool things", with Cribbs. That is great but the Dolphins don't have a Cribbs on their team either. I appreciate the fact that many fans feel that this new coaching staff will turn the offense around. I just don't have the same view and I suspect that when the season is over, the Dolphins will once again be at the bottom of the NFL in offensive productivity.

 

Henne is better than Colt McCoy. At least that is my opinion.

Hillis wasn't Hillis until he was a Brown. Before that he was Lex Hilliard.

Aw, if you do not agree with the wide receivers being better than the Browns, then I do not have faith in your ability to judge football talent.

 

Colt McCoy and Henne played on about a par last year, the funny thing is the Browns fans were excited about the way he played and we were ready to jump off a bridge with the way Henne played.

 

That’s because McCoy played better than Henne and racked up two major, signature wins in the process.

 

In what facet of the game did McCoy outperform Henne?

 

The all-important YPA column. McCoy also had two very big signature wins: at New Orleans, vs New England. Leading the Browns to wins against the defending champs in their house and against the eventual 14-2 conference 1 Seed is A Big Deal™.

 

I think level of expectation has something to play into that. No one expected Colt to play a game, while we were hoping Henne would take the next step. Instead of a next step, Henne took a baby step.

 

It is obvious that you did not read my comments if you somehow took from them that I did not believe the Dolphins wide receivers were better than the Browns. I stated that while the receivers were better on the Dolphins, it was them having to play with an incapable QB, (Henne), which prevents them from being as productive as they could be. As far as your view that Henne is better than Colt McCoy. Personally I don't think either of them are future long term starters in the NFL, but for the short term I would take McCoy over Henne any day of the week.

I do agree that that on the long term that McCoy has a better chance of being a future starter. I do think though that last year Henne was a better quarterback.

 

Debating who was the better QB on two losing teams is really a losing argument in itself. So while I remain negative in regards to the coming year with Henne once again the possible starter. I have to admit that I look forward to the end of the season so the owner can finally do what he should have done after last season, fire Ireland and Sparano. I hate being so negative about the Dolphins since I have been a fan since 1966 and a season ticket holder since 1970. Like most Dolphin fans, I thought that Parcells would have the same success in Miami that he had with the other franchises he was with. Except for his first year in charge,when the Dolphins somehow won the AFC East. The team has really not shown any improvement over the last two seasons. Going 1-7 at home last year should have been enough to get Ireland and Sparano a one way ticket out of town but for whatever reason the owner decided to stick with them. Personally I think his decision had more to do with the possibility of a players lockout and the CBA agreement than it had to do with him having confidence in either Ireland or Sparano. The last decade following the Dolphins has been a difficult time for those of us who remember when the Dolphins were one of the flagship franchises in the NFL for over 30 years. I want nothing more than for the Dolphins to once again be a franchise that the fans can enjoy and be proud of. I have had enough of mediocrity but unfortunately until the owner finally gets rid of Sparano and Ireland, mediocrity will continue to be the level at which this team will continue to play.

I do not really understand the pessimism when it comes to the Dolphins next season. I would understand if Miami was a team full of veterans and casts offs, however they were a young team last season and they played like a young team. Things did fall apart at the end of the season where they lost 3 games where they should have won, however injuries do play a big role in those loses.

You talk about comparing the Browns to the Dolphins is like comparing the Browns to the Lions. The Dolphins were in the playoff hunt for a majority of the year, unlike the Browns. Their defense played really well in a new system and they are young to boot.

Quarterbacking was a problem last season, and I do have a little hope that Henne will take a next step.

Honestly, unless they have another season where they have a lot of injury problems and the cornerbacks still drop a buttload of interceptions I do not see a year where Miami picks in the top 10 next season.

 

Apples to apples here. let's see Henne's YPA after a season with the same OC who ran McCoy's offense (and with Chad having a viable ground game and healthy offense around him).

Henne had a signature win over NE too..... and the SB winner... and should've had one verse the SB runner up..... and 2 against the AFC runner up.

Let's see what Colt does in his 2nd starting season after teams have film on him and ample time to prepare.

 

IMO We would have to have a melt down or slew of injuries of epic proportion to have a poorer record next season, because everything that could've gone wrong last year, did. Like you alluded, we'll be better even if we don't do a thing this off season because our team is still young, talented, and developing. Not every team in the league can boast that. And even if Henne never becomes a franchise QB, he's a year more seasoned, is healthy, has built up reps with Marshall, will have at least better depth at the skill positions (and outlet back/TE), and is more dedicated than ever to improve.

If we're not in the playoff hunt, it won't be because we didn't deserve it.

 

Thing is we might get some effort with Henne's development now that Daboll is here.

Not really possible, since Daboll’s playbook was interfered with and altered by Mangini and Holmgren. The playbook he’s implementing here is going to be at least somewhat different from the one McCoy was executing. Daboll isn’t bringing WCO elements with him, at least as far as we know.

I wouldn’t categorize those as signature wins at all.

You mean the NO win where he went 9 for 16 for a whopping 74 yards? Could of had something more to do with Brees throwing 4 Ints.

And the NE game he went 14/19 for 174. Hillis might of slightly contributed more with 200 all-purpose yards and 2 TDs.

Pretty crazy to have 2 signature wins while throwing for 0 TDs.
