If they plan on playing Swisher at 1B hopefully this means they arent willing to pony up big $$ for Teixeira.

What a horrible year Swisher had last year. The Yanks LOVE depleting their farm system for mediocre talent. Hey I guess if it aint broke... oops.

Cant say I love it...low avg hitter.....but plus side is 1B and OF w/switch hitter power.

I expect Cashman is simply setting up other trade options. We didnt give up anything, and this does not in any way deplete our Farm system.....its barely a ripple in the pond of what he has accumulated of late. Plus, we have so many young arms in the minors we have lots of options to move around there.

Mark Teixeira (this White Sox Texeira is the wrong one - LOL) is still #1 on my list. (personally if you asked what Switch Hitter I would have targeted that was the one)

Yanks have lots to do, and in no way should anyone think Swisher was the single piece to the off season puzzle.

    Its still wait and see.

Used as utility infield guy by Yanks. He has always wanted a full time shot (Braves/Dodgers early in his career, etc) but never gets the production you need from full time. He is serviceable, but nothing more.

Who knows maybe Cashman was in a drunken stuper and thought he just traded for M. Teixeira.

Nice move by the Yankees, as they gave up nothing valuable to them. Swisher is a nice player but if they're going to use him as an everyday player it will be a mistake, especially at 1st.

I do wonder if they plan on using Swisher as the everyday 1st baseman and maybe won't go after Big Tex. As a Sox fan I hope so because we can sure use him.

As for the Yankee farm system, I think it was a bit overrated to begin anyway so again it's not a loss at all for them.

Nice move by the yanks. Swisher should revert back to 35 homer form with the short porch and regular PT.

Maybe but he did hit in a very good park for home runs in Chicago and was terrible. I really think Swisher would be a very good bench player because he's a switch hitter and can play average defense in the OF and at 1st. Right now I think Swisher pretty much is a .240-.250 hitter with 20 HR pop and walks a lot. Again which is good for a bench player but everyday (especially for a team like NY) I'm not so sure.

Would be nice. One team with deep pockets out of the running should bring Tex's price tag down at least a bit. Of course Boras will still negotiate as though the Yanks are involved.

Eh, hes a cheaper replication of giambi's production except hes just entering his prime. :wink2:

He's a downgrade from Giambi in both the power department and the on base production, which are the only things both guys can do well (well Swisher won't hit nearly as many HRs or drive in as many guys compared to Giambi). Swisher is 11 years younger and you're right is entering what is suppose to be the prime of a hitter's career but I really don't see Swisher improving at all, what he is now is what he's going to be. There's nothing to suggest he'd ever bat over .270 or hit more than 25 HRs (his 2006 stats when he hit 35 HRs seems like his career year).

Again the more I look at his stats the more it shows me that this guy has no business starting for the Yankees, especially at 1st or a corner OF position for the kind of production he brings. I still think it was a nice trade for NY though.
