this is a comparison of stats for there first season's Revis thrown at 42 times with 25 receptions for 303 yards Davis thrown at 67 times with 42 receptions for 764 yards Smith thrown at 61 times with 34 receptions for 661 yards Revis had 3 interceptions Davis has 4 interceptions Smith has 0 interceptions Revis had 74 tackles Davis has 43 tackles Smith has 35 tackles Revis defended 17 passes Davis defended 9 passes Smith defended 11 passes Revis had 4 missed tackles and 4 penalties Davis has 5 missed tackles and 7 penalties Smith has 7 missed tackles and 1 penalty Revis 2007 touchdowns allowed...1 Davis 2009 touchdowns allowed...5 Smith 2009 touchdowns allowed...3 JUST TO SHOW HOW OUR CORNERS COMPARED TO REVIS'S FIRST YEAR Revis's stats this year are sick and if our players can improve like he has in his 3 years we are going to be a very happy group of Dolphin fans Just to show how sick he has been playing Revis has 6 interceptions with 30 passes defended thrown at 98 times with only 37 receptions and 381 yards the completion % is an absurd 37.8 %.The 37.8% is the lowest in the NFL with Will Allen at 37.9 % #2.It would have been nice to see how this season would have turned out for Allen if not for his injury. Stats from nfl.com and profootballfocus.com HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Wasn't David Barrett still manning the other CB spot for the Jets at the time? No wonder Revis was only thrown at 42 times. I think in time Vontae could be the next Pat Surtain, but we definitely need to give Davis and Smith better help over the top.
Barrett was thrown at 39 times with 27 receptions and Hank Poteat was thrown at 21 times with 12 receptions they also had Miller and Dyson and Coleman...and a partridge in a pear tree..
Revis was probably better than Will Allen, WA had 6 flags for 60+ yds, he led the AFC East in penalty yardage
Stats like this are stupid for corners....IMO. There's really no way of knowing if a linebacker is at fault for not taking his zone deep enough, a safety for not getting over fast enough, or anyone else for that matter.
So tackles are stupid interceptions are stupid passes defended are stupid missed tackles are stupid penalties are stupid touchdowns allowed are stupid Sorry that you don't like the fact that both corners have given up 1425 yards between them and don't start crying it's Wilsons fault or it's Bells fault it's NOT all the lack of safety help...as much as you wish it would be.Didn't we go through this same nonsense with Ginn, saying it was Pennington's fault for Ginns lack of production...Wait till we get a QB with a strong arm then we will see the true Ginn...Ginn will EXcell...Lets blame everyone else for the play of players that we like.
Wouldn't say that, especially with as much man to man as we play, "yes" there has been spotty safety help but still, missed tackles have cost both Rookies more than the lack of competent Safety help has. All in all solid work by Miamiron, I'm still happy with both of rooks level of play. Surtain said they should be put into the fire and take their lumps, and both of them have so far this season, but we are still in the playoff hunt with two Rook Cb's and a Rook starting Qb. The old saying is "Every rookie that starts on the defense is worth one loss during the season", I find that to be true, but still, here we are win 2 and we have a 56% chance of playing some playoff football this year.
I wouldn't say stupid, however just like all stats in football they should be taken with the idea that football is a team sport and there are many factors to the statistics.
I think both of them had excellent overall rookie seasons, and the stats do little justice to either of them. Davis's highlight reel this season looks more like a UFC Ultimate Knockouts video...that kid is an incredibly punishing tackler. Once he learns his reads a little better and the defense fills out...OMG...he will be making repetative Pro Bowl trips and highlight reels for years to come. That kid is a beast, and I love watching him.
Revis is having a sick year, but last year he was allowing 58% of the passes against him. I expect that next year he'll move back into the 50% range. I also believe that Smith and Davis have the talent to eventually have a season in the 40% range.
My point was to compare first year production not second year Revis versus first year Smith/Davis % of passes completed can be VERY deceiving...look at ASOMOUGHA who has allowed 80% pass completions this season but for only 246 yards versus Davis's 62 % pass completion percentage for 764 yards Who do you want on your team the player allowing 80% completions but only 246 total yards(Asomougha) or the player that allows 62% completions but allows 764 total yards yards (Davis) Completion percentage doesn't really mean anything but what happens with those completions. Would you rather have a corner that allows 10 yards per reception or close to 20 yards per reception??? It takes many variables and statistics do not tell the whole story...I just posted a few stats for people to look over. Davis has a higher completion percentage allowed versus Smith we know who the better corner is Davis has allowed more passing yards versus Smith we all know who the better corner is Davis has allowed more penalties versus Smith yet we all know who the better corner is Davis has allowed more TDs than Smith yet we know who the better corner is...DAVIS stats don't always tell the whole story but with a bit of research and knowledge "most" fans should be able to form an educated opinion without looking like a "JET FAN"
I didn't say it was all anyones fault. I said a defense in football is more of a unit than any other "unit" in sports. What one player does or doesn't do can have an impact on a player on the other half of the field. Please don't put words in my mouth or tell me what I think ever again.
