Sigh another assistant... IS it possible we don't know who we want so hire everyone and see who pans out!? Why do we need assistant for assistance?

Nah. The entire coaching staff from last season was jettisoned. There are a lot of holes to fill on the coaching and training staff. I'm sure there will be several more "minor" hires in the next few weeks.

So, what area exactly is he going to be coaching?

He was an O-line coach but coached Keith Bullock and Morlon Greenwood?????

As bad as we were, we need help helping ourselves. Think of it like Office Space, all these guys are "The Bob's" and their coming in to access the situation and to "lay off" the dead weight. "We're gonna need all of you guys to work Sundays, so if you could get here about 9 o clock that would be great."

    1) No, it's not possible because there's plenty to do, especially with a team that will need developing; and
    2) Why worry about how many assistants we have?

DeLeone will coach the tight ends.

I knew that he was hired on Friday. I was wondering what took the Miami media so long to report it.

there is such a thing as too many cheifs in the hut. the only thing that concerns me is whether or not they can all get on the same page. do we really need a wr coach and 2 asst the the assistant wr coaches telling a guy how to catch the ball? not if the wr coach is doing his job and on the same page. we have three different guys saying 5 different things. yes we let go of alot of people but half of them weren't needed..just more confusion to the players to me.

What appears to be the problem? The staff is forming and will shape out like this:

    Tony Sparano - Head Coach
    Paul Pasqualoni - Defensive Coordinator
Pete Carmichael Jr - Offensive Coordinator
Todd Bowles - Assistant Head Coach, Defensive Backs
    Jim Reid - Linebackers
    Kacy Rodgers - Defensive Line
    Mike Maser - Offensive Line
    James Saxon - Running Backs
    David Lee - Quarterbacks
    Karl Dorrell - Wide Receivers
    George DeLeone - Tight Ends
    John Bonamego - Special Teams
Steve Hoffman - Assistant Special Teams, Kickers and Punters
David Corrao - Defensive Quality Control
Steve Bush - Offensive Quality Control
    George Edwards - Unassigned

I don't see any assistant wide receivers coaches or assistant running backs coaches.

Just need to add Evan Marcus, Strength & Conditioning Coach to the list. I think we're pretty much done with coaches now. Maybe they'll start on the player evaluations now to see who stays and who goes?

What are you talking about? The typical staff has around 16-17 assistant coaches.

I have been told that Hoffman's official title is "Kickers" and George Edwards' title is "Inside Linebackers".

Hopefully, though I suspect that Ireland/Sparano/Tuna have used this time to watch film and make decisions on who stays and who is pruned away.

No way that Tuna and Ireland just spent a solid month going to Steak dinners and the Horse Track waiting for Sparano to become available and Gaine to get his notes in order.

and im fine with that list it just seems since saban took over we have had alot more than a normal staff. we let go all but two coaches from cam's staff and have been hiring guy's left and right that i can't keep up at the moment and it kind of seemed we were gonna have yet another overmanned staff. i just hope we stay with what we have..the smaller the coaching staff the easier to communicate to the players what you want done.

the hires i'm most excited about are hoffman(st,p,k) and kacey rodgers on the dline..two area's we should see major improvement from right away.

is there any position we haven't hired for that was let go by current regime?

Not officially, but it is all but done at this point. Pete wants the job, and Miami wants him. They are just waiting on New Orleans to release his contract so they can hammer out a deal.

Would that mean Reid is OLBs coach rather than LBs coach?

Yes, and it will also mean that Miami will be going to the 3-4 scheme.

Yes. I like the Pete Carmichael hire much more than the talked about Chris Palmer possibility.

Pete doesn't have experience as a coordinator, but he has experience coaching in both Sean Payton's offense and Cam Cameron's offense. I think he will bring in a style similar to what the Saints run under Sean Payton, but I wouldn't mind seeing him keep the same system that Cam used. Either way, I believe Miami has hired a coordinator that will work well with John Beck.

I also think Carmichael coming on is a sign that Beck is in the plans for this team. Pete has worked with Drew Brees for several years now, and John Beck is a similar quarterback. Whichever system Pete chooses to run will be a great fit for Beck. In fact, the Sean Payton system may be a better fit in the long run.

KB had we not gotten Carmichael would you have been content with the rumor of Dan Hennig being a mentor for Karl Dorrell; also what do you think of the Dorrell hire? If I remember correctly, he was a decent WR coach for the Broncos but was just in way over his head at UCLA.

for you guys worried about too many assistants, I don't think it becomes too much of a problem until everybody is on different pages. For OLB and ILB coaches it's probably a good indication of us going to a 3-4 so you'll have to teach guys who've been DEs through college how to play OLB, and you'll have to teach guys who were OLBs in the 4-3 how to take on blocks as ILBs.

Now if we got a CB coach and a S coach I'd be a little worried since those guys have to all have the same way of thinking.

I liked the Dan Henning rumor much more than the Chris Palmer rumor, that's for sure.

Saban's staff totaled approximately 26 in the end.

Carmichael is no done deal. It is all in the Saints court right now, if they want, they can block the move.

Yeah, they could still block the move, but they could have also denied permission to interview him, which they didn't. My guess is, the delay is simply because they aren't going to do this kind of work on Sunday. I believe Carmichael will be officially announced as the offensive coordinator tomorrow.

You don't foster good feelings on your coaching staff by allowing assistants to interview for promotions with other teams and then block the move.

I agree 100%, I think he will be announced tomorrow also. However, in the NFL and with some of the things that have happened to the Dolphins in the past, I am not counting my chickens before the eggs hatch.
