I can't wait for Miami to start playing like teams I grew up watching:up:Ducken and NJFINSFAN1 like this. -
Porter knows how to be a team player. He was Cowhers voice in that locker room. He appears to be in that same role here. Ive heard that same level of commitment when he talks about the Big 3.

Well if he plays like he did the last several games rather than the first 2/3rds of the season...yeah, it's his D...if not....we're in trouble....

Well, talk to a Steeler fan, they will tell you Porter was a loud mouth that drove Cowher crazy.
Porter will play the team way or he will be the next one gone, so far he has been very quite which is a plus on his side. He needs to stop talking like he has in the past and play better.like2god likes this. -
He reminds me a little of Brian Cox. Remember back when Brian picked a fight with the entire Bills sideline.:pointlol: -
So basically, we "traded" Jason Taylor for Joey Porter, and picked up a #2 and a #6 and dropped 8 million from our cap number.
I'd take that trade all day long.
IMO, the way Porter was used last season was a waste, now he moves to his natural position, we'll see what he can do on the weak side, Porter will have plenty of chances as he is our only proven Blitzer we have at LB.
He does need to bark less and play more though...:yes:Colorado Dolfan, alen1 and Bpk like this. -
I agree and think Porter will do a fine job of anchoring our defense.

And he's said on several occasions he doesn't want joey to lose his emotion. He's maybe said to tone it down or be more tactful when Joey gets into a fight or something, but never that he drove Cowher crazy (as far as I've read about it).
Joey's talks a lot of smack, but he's never been voted by players as being dirty on the field or anything like that, which IMO is much worse, so his talking doesn't bother me. He's never been shown to be a rogue, or a freelancer, so I dont get the "play the team way" I think that's all he's done. HIs teammates in Pitts loved him.
And, he showed the last half of the season he can play. He started off slow, real slow, but so did our whole defense. And they didn't have a knee surgery to deal with. Not making excuses for him, and I fully expect him to play lights out or else. I think he will. This won't be about two star players anymore (JT and ZT) it will be more of a collective effort IMO until someone emerges.Colorado Dolfan, gunn34, Ducken and 1 other person like this. -
What this means is that we've got a straight up 3-4 building. No more of this converting a guy who is mostly a defensive end into a linebacker. Joey Porter is a straight up linebacker, and Charlie Anderson/Reggie Torbor are straight up linebackers. When we put four linebackers on the field, they will be four linebackers...for better or worse.
Although I guess it could go the other direction. If you're not comfortable with the four linebackers we have to offer you can put four DLs on the field, like maybe Roth, Starks, Ferguson and Merling...or perhaps Langford, Holliday, Starks and Roth....etc. But, I think that would mostly be passing down stuff. -
Its nice to be fired up again to see what our D can do. With the addition of Merling and the maturation of Anderson, Moses, and J Allen and of course Porter moving back to his CORRECT spot and at full strength, I am pumped! -
I do agree that Will Allen is our best player right now, skill wise. However, I think that a solid pass rush is more important then one shutdown player in the secondary. We've all seen examples over and over again of how a great pass rush can make a mediocre secondary look stellar.
Also, I've always enjoyed seeing a passrusher knock the snot out of a QB and make him cough up the ball, much more than seeing a CB or S making a pick (unless they take it back for 6). -
My moma always said "Be careful what you wish for, you just may get it." Well, Jason is gone, for those of you who wanted to see that happen. I wonder if any one will step up this year and INT Brady and run it in for a TD? For my money we just got a little worse and a little less classy.:wink2:

My money says the Dolphins get to the superbowl before the skins do. There is no way I see them beating out the Giants with an emerging Manning at the helm, or the Cowboys with that probowl studded O & D that Parcells and company had built. Zach 'may' get to the big dance, but JT will just get to do some more commercials with Snyders connections backing him... -
This is a rebuilding team that needs all of the draft picks it can get in order to rebuild with young talented players, keeping JT around for sentimental reasons and letting his skills go to waste on a rebuilding team was not a good idea. Once he started dancing and yapping, it made the decision to cut ties with him even easier.Colorado Dolfan, Stringer Bell and sgtphin like this. -
What I want to see now is how the D reacts this year. It has been said several times by several people that while great players JT & ZT were really not firery leaders and maybe a little too soft in that area, leading to the D collapsing at the worst times. Now with those two out of the way, could it be time for JP to take over and fire these guys up and hold the collapsing to a min.? I do expect them to happen but I also think there will be a new toughness shown by this unit, and that will be refreshing.

I posted a thread on the other site after JTs 2006 season saying we needed to trade him...I almost got banned!

We just lost two guys on defense that produced 14 TDs between them and untold number of fumbles, sacks, and safetys but Joey Porter is going to come in and make us better because of his mouth, 65.5 sacks, and 1 safety in 9 years. :shifty::lol: Well all I can say is that he better turn it up 3 or 4 notches cause I don't see him as a savior.:pity: Hell, Taylor alone, has almost twice the sacks, 11.5 last year on a bad team, with Mr. Joey mouth along for the ride. For my money we just booted the wrong guy.:wink2:
