Where you do hate being placed? For me, it's gotta be either 7-8th in a 12 man league or 6th in a 10 man league. Miss out on top 5 RB's and are pretty much sandwiched between picks.
I agree with you on this the 7th pick is brutal to have unless you some morons picking in front of you and let some of the better players slip but that rarely happens. My two worst seasons in FF I had a sandwich pick.
Oh yea, being in a league full of homers tends to make the pain of getting a lower-middle pick more bearable.
10th-12th. The top-end premium talent is gone, and while your picks are right next to each other, you're dipping into the second and possibly even the third tier by the time you're up. Then you have to wait until the end of the next round to pick again. There's just too much that can go horribly wrong. If you pick in the top three, the production you get out of the person you pick more than makes up for having to wait until the end of the next round to pick again. IMO, the best spot to be in is the 3-6 range.
I've actually had greater success drafting last rather than 7-9th. True, you are missing out on top tier talent, but drafting wisely can easily make up ground. I can't say the same about 6-9th. You not only miss out on top-tier but you have a little stretch in between where the player you will really need gets snatched before your next upcoming pick.
Middle picks. Best spots are 1-4 11-12 I hate picking later because all the good RB's are gone. Its best to get either a top tier WR or QB in round 1 picking towards the end.
I LOVE being near the end of a draft. Since most of my leagues run 14 quality people deep (at minimum 12, some of them 16 or 18) depth is invaluable in my strategy and I would take 2 players at 16 and 17 for example then 1 and 32+33. For whatever reason this works out beautifully for me every time. While I feel comfortable drafting anywhere I feel most comfortable there. I feel least comfortable in the middle particularly the 6th/7th area. You miss the top tier talent and dont even get to double up on the next tier. That uber-sucks and makes it harder then it needs to be though Ive done well from that spot too just not with the frequency I have from other areas. In leagues Ive had time to see where I was drafting ahead of time I did well when I was able to map out different plans. Most helpful of all though for me regardless of draft position is doing a spreadsheet and preranking everything top to bottom and just deleting picks as they come off the board. I like to list in order of interest and try make a big board by position. I feel comfortable in any position when I have my big board because my judgement of players has rarely failed me.
4 each for baseball and football, including 1 for $1000 per team. 2 for basketball and 1 for hockey. Im crazy, not bored with nothing to do
