Since no one else has done it yet... For me: Unforgiven The Outlaw Josey Wales Tombstone My Darling Clementine The Searchers
Not in any particular order: Tombstone Unfogiven Young Guns 3:10 to Yuma (remake) Josey Wales Special consideration for: Maverick Deadwood (HBO Series)
I lean towards the old "spaghetti westerns", but there are others.. 1. Once Upon a Time in the West 2. High Plains Drifter 3. Cat Ballou 4. Hang 'Em High 5. The Ballad of Cable Hogue
1. The Outlaw Josey Wales 2. Tombstone 3. 3:10 to Yuma 4. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly 5. Young Guns
1. Unforgiven 2. The undefeated 3. Rio Bravo 4. Tombstone 5. Not a movie but Lonesome dove. runner-up : Open Range
Cat Ballou was hilarious. Anyone who didn't like that movie needs to have their sense of humor checked for malfunction. Trinity and Good, Bad & the Ugly were also great. The spaghetti westerns in general were incredible. The storylines were such a contradiction in terms of the production itself. The storylines were surreal and over the top. Kind of like the Kung Fu movies of the 70s. But the characters themselves, as well as alot of the individual scenes had an air of realism. One of the things that always stood out for me with Once Upon a Time in the West was in the opening scene at the train station you could here flies buzzing. The cowboys looked sweaty, dirty and unshaven, etc. But then other parts within the storyline were bizarre.
Good, the Bad, and the Ugly Unforgiven 3:10 to Yuma Tombstone Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford Honorable mentions Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid Once Upon a Time in the West Wyatt Earp
was this one really good? I've been meaning to download......i mean rent it.......but I just haven't gotten around to it since it didn't look that appealing to me.
I liked it a lot. Was a little slow at parts so if you like more fast paced Westerns it might not be your thing but Pitt and Casey Affleck were really good in it. At parts it almost seems like a documentary so it was kind of interesting.
1. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly 2. Quigley Down Under 3. Tombstone 4. Big Jake 5. Unforgiven Honorable Mention: McLintock!, The Proposition, High Noon
Quigley is one of my favorites ... couldn't get into the Sacketts as much because it was so danged long. Or, at least it felt that way when I was watching it.
I have read everything LaAmour wrote and was a big Sackett fan, had um all, so the movie was awesome to me
Open Range - The gun fight scene is unreal. Unforgiven - another unbelievable gun fight scene Shane -*** The Searchers - John again Tombstone - Val Kilmer made this movie One eyed Jacks - how could I forget that one Special runnerups - The Shootist and The Man who shot Liberty Valence and The Ox-Bow Incident Sorry but I just had to come back and replace The Cowboys with Shane. I don't know how I could have been so forgetful. Must have been a senior moment.
I chose the Searchers...but if I had to choose another John Wayne movie, I think it would be El Dorado.
The Searchers was on week before last, I tried to burn a copy but it fritzed on a power burp and I lost it.. a very good flick.. I just REALLY like some of the lines in BJake.. I have used the "if you won't respect your elders, I can make you respect your betters"... before.. on my son.. : )
John Wayne does come up with some great one liners: The Searchers "That'll be the day!" - Big Jake " My fault, your fault, nobodys fault ..........." and The Cowboys "We've seen what you can do with a boy howabout a real man for a change." And, of course, (he didn't say it but) "Thats bold talk for a one eyed fat man." John Wayne put out some great flicks thats for sure.
I also have all of LaAmour's books. I have read all of them several times. Any book made into a movie I also bought.
I like all of John Wayne's movies. My list: War Wagon Seachers Shadow Riders Shane Outlaw Josey Wales
