Hi everyone, you may recognize me from the forum as I’ve been a member here since December of 2007.  Ken (3pmi) was kind enough to give me the opportunity to be a blogger for ThePhins.com.  You’re probably familiar with me from posting over the years and I know there are some who will remember that Travis, (Aqua4Ever04) and I had our “Phinalysis” podcast last year as part of Perfectville, a site that Chris (Sick) and Sam (Samphin) run.  Life comes at you fast sometimes and while Chris and Sam still have Perfectville rolling right along – seriously, check out their podcast, it’s hilarious – and Travis is going strong with his own ventures, I’ve found myself with a new promotion, getting engaged and renovating a house this year.  Needless to says it’s been one of the busiest summers I’ve had in a long time and a blog feels like it’s just about right in terms of the speed of my Dolphins involvement for 2017.  Hopefully I’ll still be able to jump on Travis’s podcast every now and again, and I’ll still post on the forum as much as I can, but this is another outlet for my Dolphins thoughts.

Obviously this year started out a lot differently than just about any of us would have expected.  Hurricane Irma happened and forced our beloved Dolphins to kickoff the season in week two.  I’ve got an uncle who loves in Houston, Texas and has been down there since the early 1980’s.  Fortunately he was in Jacksonville when Hurricane Harvey hit Houston a few weeks ago, and he’s been very lucky with only minor damage to his house, but the city is still a mess.  I can’t imagine what a lot of you are going through in the wake of Hurricane Irma.  I remember seeing a tweet showing that Irma was larger then my entire home state of Ohio, which is incredible and scary at the same time.

While there’s no game to report on, as I normally would in this space, I tried to watch some of the week one games.  I fell asleep just as the Chiefs put the Patriots on their heels Thursday night.  I watched a quarter or so of Andy Dalton being “Bad Andy” on Sunday afternoon.  Our dryer broke, so a trip to Lowe’s and dinner allowed me to see a little bit of the Seahawks vs. Packers game. I watched more of the Dallas victory over the Giants than anything else.  And late meetings and wedding planning things robbed me of my free time Monday night.  Even so, it felt very wrong since Miami wasn’t playing, and even more wrong that so many Dolfans in South Florida were dealing with the mess of Irma.  While I’ve not met anyone from this board in-person (save for someone who was hammered drunk outside of Ford Field in 2014, whose username I can’t remember) being part of this board and part of the “Phinalysis” podcast last year have brought me into contact with so many Dolfans from across the country, and quite frankly, across the globe.  I can think of people from the U.K., Scotland, and Germany who’ve reached out to me with questions on Twitter.  I know DJ from the forum listened to our podcast from time to time.  So many others have interacted me and talked about grabbing a beer and catching a Reds game if they’re ever in Cincinnati.  That even though I’ve not met anyone from this board, but so many people here are friends and interact with each other on an almost daily basis didn’t really hit me until last week.

I couldn’t help myself from wondering if everyone in South Florida was alright.  Were Section126, CK, and FinD and all his animals managing to tough out the hurricane? Those types of thoughts were where my head was at during week 1.  Now that we’re finally onto week 2 (week 1 for Miami) I think Dolphins football comes at a great time especially when so many have so many other “life” issues to deal with outside of football.  My hope is that this Sunday, for a couple of hours, the Dolphins can bring some hope and good vibes to everyone on this forum.

I know that’s probably not what you were expecting out of me and seeing a blog post, and I promise I’ll have football-related stuff up here after this weekend, but I’m glad it sounds like everyone made it through Irma.  Hopefully the Dolphins and this forum can be a pleasant distraction for you in the coming days and weeks.  Fins Up!
