Next step is to get a DC whose head is not up his ***. Then bring in 4 average FA olinemen, then get a safety to pair with Jones, then a couple of average CBs, then a real MLB, then collect trophies. -

Simple Definition of "culture" from Merriam-Webster:
The beliefs, customs, arts, etc., of a particular society, group, place, or time
A particular society that has its own beliefs, ways of life, art, etc.
A way of thinking, behaving, or working that exists in a place or organization (such as a business) -

The word is pretty clear to most. -
I cant stand when I hear a player say to do your job, because it is so much more then that. Each player is a key part of the cycle and it doesn't take much for 2 or 3 to kill a whole team. (the whole one bad apple rotts the bunch syndrome) There are so many players that "get fat" in the off season and come in to camp lethargic and not ready to play. The distraction and the time and energy needed to get them ready is not fair to the Team. These types of players would never make it on a team like New England. They are consistently the best because their players get it. If you don't you will be down the road in a heart beat. It's part of the culture that has been built. Expectation levels are so high that players over achieve. This is a big reason why a lot of players that do end up in NE end up excelling and having career years. -
It's honestly not my intention to pick apart your definition of the word. -
Don Shula changed how his teams practiced and instilled discipline from the get-go. Dolphins were a 3-5 win team before him and suddenly he comes here and we're a perennial contender. Those changes happened in the offseason before the players (that were kept) experienced winning. -

Its more likely that a coach tries to instill his "culture" (which as of yet, you've not defined for what you think it means) and if his schemes and gameplans work correctly, the team wins and THEN they buy into the "culture".
PS, no one said "culture" doesn't exist before. The discussion was about the team needed to change its culture. I asked how that can be done before you win?Mcduffie81 likes this. -
Culture: values, beliefs, and behaviors that dictate how people act internally and externally.
Example: a trait of winners is being highly collaborative.
I have no doubt that teams that win are collaborative before they win. I don't think a team could ever win without being collaborative.
A winning culture is inherently not based upon outcome.

To me, if the NFL is a culture dominated by millionaire alpha males, the HC then has to be a larger Alpha male then the athletes, this was Tuna's approach with acquiring team captains etc, already motivated talent.
Have the view that the Dolphins Franchise, for the last decade, simply cannot draft offensive linemen who can step in and perform, and that litany is endless. Recall the heady days of Alibi? What is John Martin doing nowadays?
Dallas Thomas? And on and on and on, basically aside from Richie Incognito, no FA signed here has played even to their past levels, Albert being dinged of course, no non #1 or #2 draft pick on the offensive line has developed in over a decade.
This is an oddity of the Dolphins, James=Pouncey=Albert all played well, all had a lot of resources put into them, every other "starter" on the offensive line was simply terrible, thought Dougles did "ok" at Center, otherwise..not so much.
Until that is addressed, the Franchise has to overpay for offensive linemen, we will be mediocre or worse, that is the #1 thing that must be addresseddgfred likes this. -

Acting as if you have all the answers by saying "fix the culture" is a lame blanket statement. When you say "fix the culture" all I gather from you is "just win more".
I believe a "winning culture" comes AFTER winning has been established. You have to have credibility, trust and a PROVEN method of opporation and THEN players will "buy into" your coaching staff and winning becomes the norm.Fin D likes this. -

Your interpretation of what I mean is completely on you. I'm happy to have the conversation with Stringer because he's civil about it. -
Btw....You don't deserve civility because you don't offer it to anyone else.Shane Falco and Fin D like this. -
Its not realistic for you to assume everyone goes by the same definition of culture. The way the word is being used here puts it into the same category as elite, franchise, etc. These are words that people have different definitions of. That's not me being crazy or unreasonable to ask.
Being collaborative is trait of a winning culture, having it doesn't mean you automatically have a winning culture. Just like all humans have hearts, doesn't mean if something has a heart its automatically human. So telling me teams need to be collaborative before they can win doesn't, in any way, say a winning culture exists before a team wins.
Lastly, in this discussion, there is no way to have a winning culture BEFORE a team starts winning. These players will do what they are told from a gameplan standpoint and if the gameplan is correct, the team will start winning. Then the culture changes. Until then, it won't.
On top of all that, most of us have no effing idea what the actual culture on a team is like to begin with. We have no idea of the infighting and lawlessness that goes on teams behind closed doors. Even Shula had little if any control over the team outside of providing them proper gameplans.
This isn't high school ball or the movies.Mcduffie81 likes this. -
Besides, I don't even have to say anything. My point is proven in how Stringer's opinion is being attacked - which is exactly why I avoided getting into further discussion. -
You on the other hand came to this forum like a massive hurricane full of negativity and insults. Now you're playing the victim and playing nice. We will see how long that lasts. That's great, but I have my doubts.Fin D likes this. -
