The Vikings are the team to watch IMO not the Saints.

 

Its hard to believe that going into week 7, the Denver Broncos would be going into their bye-week at 6-0 and still un-beaten

The only teams I could actually stomach being undefeated are the saints or the colts.

Not really sure just how much the younger fans appreciate that record since it was before their time, but for those of us that remember the era ......that record means everything.

I was at 5 of the home games, including the last regular season game vs the Colts. I was only 11 but I can tell you this........being undefeated is a pretty awesome feeling.

And under no circumstances do I EVER wanna share it.......I'm greedy like that :shifty:

 

Well.....I almost was committed to a mental institution two years ago when the Patriots were making their run. :/

 

Obviously I don't think they will or want them to, but they can beat you in so many ways.

Favre is having a career year....yes a career year at his age. They can run the ball against anyone even when you know they are running it, Adrian Peterson is just incredible. Their defense isn't "amazing" but they aren't bad either.

I can't see the Saints doing it, MAYBE the Colts but I'm really not sure about them either. Their defense is terrible.

 

Absolutely.......and I wasn't doubting the younger fans appreciation, just saying I wasn't sure how most younger fans truly felt about it.

No undefeated teams this year.I thought the Pats had real good shot but thanks to the G men it was not to be.

 

I never want to share it either js. I watched all those games on an old black & white tv and loved every minute of it.
The memories I have are wonderful. The names of Shula, Greise, Zonk, Kiick, Nick B, Warfield, Morris, Morrall and on and on always make me so proud of being a fan of this great franchise.
I am a real homer when it comes to our "perfect team". And Don Shula, he was and is one of my heros and a man I admire. Which says a lot, I don't have many that I truly admire or call a hero.
I think they all be stopped, I just hope it's soon, so I can breath better.:yes:

 

We never would share a record of perfect season technically, since if someone did it in today's game it would be 16 regular season wins plus the postseason success (whereas it used to be 14 games). I would consider it far more impressive for someone to have a perfect season now.

 

The record means a lot to me because my dad was in the front office in 72. It means more to me than words.

 

Don't forget we had no ties either:wink2: There was another team that did go undefeated, but they had one tie to go along with it:wink2:

 

And they got to play 8 games against teams without a winning record, and that is just division games.

 

They only played who they were scheduled to play.

 

Im 30 now, i was only 5 when Dan started his era. The jealousy of have of you older fans getting to be a part of that history is pretty nuts. I hope and pray that I can one day be a part of something that special with this team. I watch in admiration when i see old stories about the 72 season. I just wish there was a way i could have every game in Dolphins history on dvd to watch. Heck, even Dan's games as i hardly even remember those. Where can people find that stuff? I have the 72 americas game on my ipod and watch that all the time.

 

Yeah, well they won those games with their backup QB too! Are you going to tell me that the 07 Pats would win those 18 games with Tommy sitting on the sidelines, yeah right!

The 72 team was/is PERFECT and that is PRICELESS!!

 

I absolutely think the 07 Patriots could've won all 18 of the games the dolphins won in 1972 with Tom Brady on the bench. :wink2:


Bob Griese was actually pretty pedestrian (statistically) in the 5 games he started. Morrall was better in pretty much every category except sacks per. I'd almost wonder if the Fins would have won every game they played had Griese managed to play every game. Then again, when looking at the opponents, he probably would have still won them all.

 

Well many of the 1982 and 1984 AFC Championship team will be on the sidelines, the Killer B's, AJ Duhe, Duper, Clayton, et al.

Those are the Dolphins teams I watched play.

That's absolutely true, I never said they didn't.

 

I'm not trying to knock them so much as I'm trying to illustrate that it is pretty much incomparable to today's game (despite it being called the "modern era"). There wasn't free agency or a salary cap back then (among other things). The 72 fins should celebrate whenever they want for what they accomplished, regardless of what anyone else does now.

Because people are talking about celebrating when the last undefeated teams in the current season lose.

Someone else brought up the Patriots, and I responded.

 

But that backup quarterback was Earl Morrall, who had played for Shula when Shula was coaching the Colts. He took Shula's Colts to the Super Bowl when Unitas was injured in 1968. That year he was the NFL MVP and went to the Pro Bowl for the second time. He came in for Unitas again in 1970, when Johnny U was injured again, but that time he won the Super Bowl. Shula picked him up on waivers for $100 and the rest is history. My point is, this wasn't just a backup quarterback. This was the best backup quarterback in the history of the game.

 

That is true, Earl Morrall is completely underrated as one of the reasons for the 1972 Perfect Season, he wasn't some scrub, he had played in SB's before.

 

The Pats proved that our record is safe... No team imo now, are better than the 07 Pats

 

Oh really, then why didn't they in 08? Tommy was on the bench and their schedule was easier than 07 yet we won the division at 11-5. They didn't even make the playoffs with their valted backup QB. Nope the 72 team is/was PRICELESS and always will be!:up::wink2:

It really doesn't matter who wins or who loses.
The fact will always remain that the '72 Dolphins were the first perfect team.
They were great, they played hard and fought every step of the way. It didn't just fall into their lap. They had the greatest coach ever leading them.
IMO, the way they played, whether it be 17 games or 20, they would have still fought their way to the top. They were that determined on winning.
Shula took a team of off-beat players and made champs out of them.
Sure it would be different today because of all the free agency etc. Not as much loyalty from players or coaches.
The rough, hard hitting football game was the norm back then. Sometimes now, it seems like the nfl is watering down the game and taking a lot of the old blood and gut mentality out of the game.
Nothing should ever be taken away from that great team. They shouldn't even be compared to teams now. They were the greatest team to take the field. As I said before IF anyone else ever goes un-defeated, they'll still be in the shadow of the '72 Dolphins.

I am an admitted homer for this old team and a lot of the players individually and I'm proud of it.
Not wanting an argument from anyone, just stating my opinions and personal love for this team.

And IMO, comparing the stinkin' pats or anyone to that old team is ludicrous. brady will never be the man that many of our guys were and neither will anyone else. Crap, he isn't half the man as ANY of the Dolphin players, then or now. And as far as Shula goes, bellicheat ain't good enough to wipe his shoes.

Hey, I never said Shula wasn't a smart HC. BTW Morrall was on waivers while Cassel was traded for a second round pick. Going by that fact it seems to suggest that Cassel would be the better man.
