2011 NFL Players Rookie Premiere (Thomas/Gates)

DT looks country strong, combine that with great dexterity in the feet and hands and we might have ourselves somethin.

I wonder why Thomas and Gates are both wearing #8 in various pics then we also see Gates wearing #00?
What is this event anyway? Who organized it? I thought the league and teams could have no contact with the players until the lockout is lifted.

Is this the Topps trading card event? I seem to remember John Beck, Ted Ginn, Lorenzo Booker, Long, Henne, Pat White, Pat Turner, all being there over the years. I'm guessing Thomas and Gates both wear #8 since it was their college number. I know some of the rooks on other teams picked jersey #'s, but no Dolphins did.

No, it's just the number they each wore in college. They haven't selected their actual numbers with the Dolphins yet. To my knowledge, only Pouncey has stated he wants to wear #53 like his brother, but that currently belongs to Austin Spitler.

Because NFL teams cannot formally assign numbers to the rookies until a new CBA is struck, the players wore 00 on day 1 of the symposium and then wore their college number for day 2 for photos.
