I think one can make a legit argument that having Jeter play SS all year while batting 1st or 2nd could have possibly kept the Yankees out of the playoffs that year. It was clear the Yankees bent over backwards for Jeter in his last year and didn't want to disrespect him by moving him down in the order, moving him off SS or using a defensively sub in late game situations. I do think the Yankees come off looking poorly here and definitely hypocritical. The line of the Yankees not doing farewell tours was pretty funny.

Arod not so much... The guy got caught cheating twice and lied about it.. Twice... To be fair after the last suspension he was he did do everything at least in my opinion the right way to repair his image but he has a long way to go.

Arod was the Red Soxs Manny put it that way.......

The Yankees and Girardi said they don't do farewell tours yet that did one with Jeter a few years earlier that possibly cost the team a playoff spot. They did one with Rivera also but they didn't hurt the team.

I understand that Jeter is extremely highly regarded and respected in baseball and with the Yankees. He's a legend no doubt. However the bottom line was he hurt the team by playing and was never benched, asked to switch positions or moved down in the order.

They said they want to go with the youth movement and they want to field a team that can win games. But then why not cut Teixeira too? He's been equally as bad and the guy bats 3rd or 4th almost every game. Why single out Arod? Yeah probably the PED stuff and him being Arod is part of it but again why not dump Tex too? I get that Teixeira adds value on D but why not move him to the bottom of the order? Teixeira has negative WAR this year.

Who cares if they look inconsistent? Of course you will treat a guy like Jeter and Rivera differently when they were the centerpieces that brought you, what 5 rings?, and brought you playoff appearances almost broke every year and spent I think 18 years representing your franchise the way we want every athlete to represent our uniform. Guys like Jeter and Rivera are the anti A Rod and deserve to be treated differently. They never embarrassed the game, themselves, or their team the way A rod did. So if the NYY did in fact treat them differently....Good. And if it makes some people a little sore and cranky....even better.

Teix still plays an incredible 1b but i would have no issue cutting him now that Austin was called up.

You forget the back up 1b Bird was hurt at the start of the season.. The back up to the back up Ackley was hurt shortly after that. Refsnyder( i will never be able to spell his name) played ok i guess but it certainly wasnt ideal.

With the win last night, the Cubs clinched back to back winning seasons for only the fourth time since 1972. (2003/04, 07/08, 08/09)

The next goal is to achieve back to back 90+ win seasons for the first time since 1928/29/30.

Magic number for the division is 22. Pulling for the Marlins to make the playoffs instead of St Louis!

The Braves also clinched a losing record yesterday, so it sucks to be them. I know how that side feels.

Do you guys think that the Pirates, as we know them, are done with their current run? They're now below .500, at 67-68, and in 4th place for the NL WC, 4.5 back of St. Louis. Its not hard to see them winning 20 fewer games this season than last year, and Andrew McCutchen has really fallen off from where he was. He has one year left on his deal, plus a team option, and I have to wonder if Pittsburgh considers moving him this winter to reload.

It would be stupid for Pitt to sell low on McCutchen this offseason. They have poor lineup protection for him. I'm not expecting them to spend big on a Cabrera type but why can't they at least offer someone to protect him in that lineup? They'd be much better served spending a few bucks, getting someone who can protect him and then dealing him as he rebounds next year and get a much higher return.

As for the rest of Pitt...their pitching is mediocre though I like their young arms, particularly Tailon. The Pirates also have two nice players in Marte and Polanco locked up long term with Meadows and Josh Bell closing in...bell needing to clean up his D and Meadows just needing a bit more seasoning. They could be done for this year but they will not be done for long. I like their system.

im not going to take the whole subject too seriously because at this point i think its not much discussing. Maybe Tebow proves otherwise but this guy does not have his best interests prioritized.

The Mets have been able to develop some nice players without a doubt, but Atlanta is the team that IMO you should sign with. This just reminds me of Jacksonville callingfor his services, his hometown wanting Tebow as a backup quarterback, but because he likes the allure and attenion that New York can give him, they even gave him a radio sjow. So he goes to the Jets instead. I mean maybe its time to get away from New York, go to a small market and focus on yourself instead of focusing on ESPN covering you at New York.

Other than that, i wish him luck, hes got a long, long road ahead of him.

I hope that he looks so laughingly horrible that he never even gets into a game. The whole deal is so stupid.

He looked horrible against live pitching in the tryout.. but he's a professional athlete and history has shown that's pretty much all you need to be to get a deal in the minors..

He was doing just fine in his job at ESPN, now he's getting away from the sport that makes him famous out of desperation of chasing millions..

I really don't think it matters what team Tebrow signed with. He's 29 years old and hasn't played a single game in over 10 years when he was high school and even then he wasn't much of a prospect. The Mets are just hoping that he'll boost attendance at the minor league park for a year and it was justified a roster spot and his salary. I don't care how good of an athlete the guy is hitting a baseball is the hardest thing in sports to do. The only thing wouldn't like is how he might be a distraction due to all the attention and he is taking a spot and development time from another player who might actually have potential to reach the big leagues someday.

1. Sandy Alderson said they don't feel it's too late for him to develop.
2. Radio show in NY is doubtful considering the Mets let Tebow keep his gig on the SEC Network. According to Colin Cowherd of the 10 teams that pursued Tebow only the Mets were wiling to allow this.

I feel sorry for Mets fans that this nonsense will always be thrown out there in the media now. Stories about Tebow, when they should be about the real players and prospects on a quality team.

Bryzzo should get to 100, with 20 games left, but Russell will need some big opprotunities I think.

Ben Zobrist and Javy Baez, splitting duties at 2B while also playing elsewhere, have combined for 27/116 also. They have an identical .426 slugging percentage.

And the three catchers have combined for 23/87 also. :up:

Proud of my Cubs for clinching the NL Central last night, even if it came on a night where they lost at home to one of the worst teams in baseball. Sports can be weird, lol. However, I do take exception to the notion that they clinched a playoff spot yesterday, like all of the reporters are saying. They actually did that last week when their magic number vs the Marlins and Pirates went to zero. At that point, even had they lost their last 20 games or so, they'd still have gotten in to the WC game.

Now, their number to make sure they get to play the WC game winner is 11 vs Washington, with 16 to play. That would then leave the winners of the East and West to play one another in the Divisional Round.

The Nationals number is 12 vs LA to clinch at least the #2 seed, and 7 vs the Mets for the NL East.

The Dodgers number for the division is 13 vs SF.

The Giants number for the WC is 15 vs St Louis.

The Mets number for the WC is 16 vs St. Louis.

I'd love to play the Marlins, because A) they don't scare me and, B) they need payback for 2003. The Dodgers scare me the least of the teams that would currently be in from the NL. The Cubs have done well vs the Giants this year, but those guys always seem to get hot in the post season. And the Mets did what they did to us just last season in the NLCS, where good pitching can dominate, but I think that if the Cubs are the best team, then the Nationals are the second best in all of MLB. I think it will come down to a 6 or 7 game series to see who gets to go to the World Series.

From the AL, Boston and Toronto both scare me. Those guys can score 15 runs a game, whereas the Cubs are good, but inconsistant with the bats. Baltimore has no pitching, I think that Texas isn't as good as their record, and the Cubs would crush the Indians. Maybe sweep. I think that any of the teams currently on the outside in the AL WC would get beaten easily in the ALDS if they were to make it that far.

As far as who would I like to play in the WS, should the Cubs get that far? Even though they scare me, probably Boston. Between the two classic fields, the history, the fan bases, the storylines, and all of the connections. Plus, you could just induct Theo into the HOF at the end, lol.
