RELEASE THE KRACKEN!!!
Never been a big hockey fan til now, but I married a Canadien girl, and my daughters are actually into it. Seattle has created an amazing product even before opening night tonight. Big time buzz all over Washington, Idaho, and Oregon for pro hockey coming back here.
And I like the Rum too so...
Who's your team? Lightning going to 3 peat?

Congratulations Kraken on your first ever win! Team actually looks legit. Goalie is one of the best in the league. They play a fast attack offense and have a smothering D. Should be a fun season

The drive for 5 is alive! Let’s go Isles! Having future HOFERS at coach and GM is something no other team can boast. Feels so good to finally have competent leaders and ownership in place again.
Psyched for our new arena in a week and a half. I loved the Nassau Coliseum even though it was dumpy compared to other arenas but I feel like I grew up there to an extent. But they’ve been trying to get a new arena literally since the early 80’s during the dynasty years. -

I have been to several arenas.

It’s ok, I’m an islanders fan and we had a tremendously disappointing season and need a 1st line wing for Barzal in the worst way and imo a 2nd line wing to give Nelson more support.Tone_E likes this. -
What is Toronto going to do in net?
Mike Bossy was how old in 1967? Like 8? :confused2::chuckle: -
In net there's been some FAs thrown around including Fleury. Won't be Campbell though. I am not convinced he is good enough to win a cup anyway.
There's zero chance Lou trades for JT lol, that was in jest. I'm happy to have him but damn he's expensive.Boik14 likes this. -
There is a huge level of entitlement among that fan base which leads to even more disappointment every year:
-With every loss, it was the fault of the refs up in Toronto. Why do the Refs and the League have it out for Toronto?
-Every draft pick they make, it is a brilliant draft pick.
-Every prospect they have is miles better than other teams prospects taken at the same point in the draft.
-Their management team, until failures pile up, they are better than every other management team.
-Any signing the Maple Leafs make...they got a GREAT deal because it is obvious the free agent came to Toronto because, well, who WOULDN'T want to play for Toronto?
And despite all that, they can't make any progress.Tone_E likes this. -

I am also a Leafs fan. Going back to the days of Sittler, Salming, McDonald.
I pretty much root for the Sabres and any 5 of the original 6 (excluding the Bruins); and out west I still root for the Oilers to be good. But have a particular affinity for Toronto and Montreal after Buffalo.Tone_E likes this. -

Every year the ratings come out for the Stanley cup. Usually the 2 highest rated cities are from the teams playing in the cup. But something like 6 of the last 8 years, after the teams playing in the Cup finals, Buffalo as a city/metro area is where the highest ratings come.
The team has been awful, AWFUL the last decade, so after that long I can see why the Arena is half empty. But you don't even need a winning team, give them a competitive team, even a .500 team, and when that happens they have a waiting list for Season tickets.
Minnesota is underrated as an NHL fan base also. No one says they are a bad fan base, but they might be right up there with Buffalo as one of the top ones in the league as far as US cities. You have your casual fans, but they have a lot of fans up in Minneapolis where Hockey is their life. -

If they become competitive it will amp up again. -
The Rags always get the top spot for obvious reasons.
Pitt, just cause I can't stand Crosby or their fan base
Washington because I still hate Dale Hunter for his cheap shot on Turgeon in 93.Tone_E likes this. -
I don't think the team in toronto is the most hated. The players on the team aren't awful, they have no notorious cheap shot artists, no guys who are over the top arrogant. It is the fanbase that is the issue there. I know its splitting hairs and a lot of us form our allegiances based on the fanbase, not the team. But in Toronto, 99% of the hatred for the Leafs is the fanbase, not the team itself.

Congrats to any Vegas Golden Knights fans.
Also, if anyone had a doubt that hockey players are the toughest pro athletes on the planet, consider the following from the Florida Panthers:
Matthew Tkachuk suffered a broken sternum in game 3, finished game 3 (scored the tying goal) and played game 4 before sitting out game 5.
Defenseman Aaron Ekblad suffered a broken foot in round 1, finished that out and didn't miss a game. If that wasn't enough he had 2 separated shoulders and a torn oblique muscle. I think he's going to need a full body cast.
Any other sport, those injuries have players out for months if not the season.Tone_E likes this.
