It had a good run. You can only do so much with the plot.

its far from dead, imo, but certainly the end of its present form. we have heard about making movies but i wonder if there is a broad enough market for it. the casual viewer has lost interest i think

what could happen is a smaller cable network like TNT or USA could pick it up and make a '24 lite' closer to the beginning seasons with low production costs. i think thats the major thing.

its just no longer viable as a top show for how much it costs, especially compared to cheaper, idiot competition shows that get better ratings.

 

What a shame but good shows can't last forever. Except maybe the Simpsons.

 

They're going to make a movie now and have hired someone to write a script. Both Kiefer and one of the shows creators/writers said they have no interest in doing another season on a different network and claim this was probably going to be the last season of it anyway because they were really tapped for ideas and just burnt out.

I do think 24 can work as a 2 hour movie, I mean really what's the different besides from the whole time gimmick of a Die Hard and 24? Although the ratings have dropped 10 million people will tune in to watch 24 each week, surely those people will go to the movies to see it or in the very least rent it.

 

And one could argue the Simpsons hasn't been a good show for close to a decade.

 

They could but they'd be wrong. It's remained a solid show. Obviously it's being watched or it wouldn't keep getting picked up. It's heyday was the mid 90s, it couldn't just ride the coattails of its former popularity for that long without still being a solid show.

I'm disappointed that 24 will be done but I can't blame the writers for being out of ideas. I have no idea what I'd try to do with the show if I were a writer. They've done about everything you can do. Maybe Jack will finally get his happily ever after, probably with Rene. The lucky guy.

 

The simpsons isn't as good, but even now I would put it up against some of the top shows out there and it would win. The whole "It's not as good" is way overstated IMO.

 

You're both right. Saying it's no good is probably overstated. But it's nowhere near what it once was. And in an episode-by-episode guide, it has way more misses than hits over the last few years. JMO.

I'd disagree with that. Seasons 5 and 7 were pretty good overall. Season 6 was awful though, the worst ever. This year it's so/so, probably the 2nd worst season though. You can tell they ran out of ideas now and are struggling.

 

those movies occur over the course of hours or entire day.

an action film with a time issue, yeah, thats pretty common. but you would agree that 2 hours of real-time would not make sense, yes?

maybe the movies can be put on the premium cable channels? idk. i honestly dont see a market for it.

 

Never saw the first one, hope I didn't miss anything. Still, as many people I know that are addicted to that show, and how they programmed it to keep you on the edge of your seat for the next episode, I hope they give you a closing to the series, that would be ****ty for them not to. Sorry 24 fans. :sad:

 

the first season was the best. if you had it on DVD and put it in, you would soon finding yourself not eating, taking the battery out of your phone, quitting your job, etc lol

 

The movie wouldn't take place in real time (like 24 Redemption did) as they have stated they like the idea of Jack having to go overseas or various locations without having to worry about the time factor. Whether it takes place during the course of one day, months or years I have no idea.

 

dont get me wrong, im going to watch it. im just not buying its mass appeal. a lot of action movies have hip hop soundtracks and fancy cars and half naked girls that audiences expect in a sort of urban/action format. this wont have any of it. it seems a bit like bond, without the martinis and sex

its sounding more to me like its going to be a jack bauer movie. they may as well title it so, with the slogan 'thats all you need to know' lol

maybe they are setting him to go to the IRK working under the CIA.
