Very interesting tidbit I found about Sunday's game...
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=schefter_adam&page=10spot/10week17
This regime has made cost cutting moves before preferring Berger over Grove. It will be interesting to see just how cheap they really are. If they cut Ronnie out of the picture on Sunday, I think the organization will stand to lose way more than $500,000, they stand to lose credibility and fans...
I remember Edgerrin James used to always get called selfish for wanting to hit his escalator clauses, but he wasn't trying for 750.

Ronnie is a goner regardless imo, but Ur right that would send quite a negative message to any potential FA's.
-
Fans won’t care at all if Ronnie misses out on $500,000. Won’t ruin anyone’s new year except Ronnie’s.
And if it takes the promise of $500k to make him run hard for once this season, then I don’t want to pay him a cent next season. Guy is talented, but he’s done nothing all year. He and Ricky are both playing their way out of town.dolfan32323 and gunn34 like this. -
It isn't their fault. They have no interior offensive line to speak of out in front of them, and the plays that are being called aren't exactly creative.

You don’t like Sparano, we get it. That doesn’t mean you have to invent facts to justify that.

Thanks for bringing that back up  -

#2-See misused and underutilized part of original thread...
#3-Yes, it doesn't take a genius to understand that the league has figured out how to stop Ronnie in the Wildcat after '08. You're just backing up my original statement IMO. Plus, now they don't even run motion across Ronnie anymore making it even more of a lamecat.
#4-It's called coaching. You know, getting the best out of your players by knowing which buttons to push. Chatman may have started 2 games tops but he still didn't outproduce Ronnie. However, good point. I did forget that was how Cameron did it.
#5-http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7178/gamelog;_ylt=AjXJeHIcWiv7_hYpAemFPHn.uLYF?year=2007Again, I think you're just making my case for me...
#6-You've completely lost me...what facts am I inventing? Used him up and spit him out is exactly how I would categorize Ronnie's diminishing role with the wildcat and offense in general (if indeed that is what they do while keeping him from attaining his escalator clause).
BTW-sorry if I came off condescending in my reply. It took so long to write I didn't want to make the effort on a less offensive second draft. I think overall a lot of people will see what I am driving at. Perhaps I'm just stuck in my ways, but I think I nailed down what I wanted to express. Friends? -
Also, whwnever the team is flat or starting to look like it might quit I see Ronnie to step up and play with heart. Give his all. He's a guy who CARES about playing hard and always fighting to win. If we dishonor guys like that it'll hurt my belief in rooting for this ownership... because anything contrived to keep Ronnie from getting his incentive would come from the top, since it's their wallet, not from the coaches... especially coaches desperate to win in order to keep their jobs. -
Right now there's 26 other RBs in the NFL that can get us 750 yards...Including
Cedric Benson, who has over 1K yards. Guess how many times he's done it?
Once more than Ronnie has. Ronnie is just not that valueable. -
Ricky will be here next year though IMO. -
I actually have an odd feeling that both ronnie amd ricky have solid games tommorow.

Henne is a big part of the reason the running game sucks................no one fears him, so they key on our backs. The difference in Henne over Pennington is teams feared Pennington under 25 yards because Pennington would make you pay. Running the ball was easier because they couldn't/wouldn't stack the box as much.
Henne......... they don't fear at all. Receiver's routinely run wide open and they are invisible. -
-
I know it's built into his contract , but its like we are rewarding his mediocrity.
If he was 100 yards away from the escalator clause we wouldn't even be talking about his potential bonus, because he likely wouldn't come close.
To hit 750 yards on the season it takes an average of 46.8 yards/game.
Hardly an impact player.
Now if he goes out and runs for 100+ yards tomorrow, he earns it. But his statline tomorrow will probably looked something like 12 carries for 48 yards. -
Hopefully he gets 31 yards.

i have been a huge ronnie brown supporter but watching him this year he doesnt look like the same back to me, he used to truck guys and run hard , he doesnt look like that anymore to me anyway
-
Samphin Κακό σκυλί ψόφο δεν έχει
Well, currently, that means that Ronnie is averaging 48 yards per game. Which means if he plays to his average this year, he will get it. But then again, averaging 48 yards a game is quite pathetic.

and.........................?
Didn't get it.
6 carries. Intentionally kept him from his 500k. They might have intentionally kept him from his 500k all year with this play calling. -
However, I think the real downside to this is how player across the league will view this franchise/staff. If other players look at it that way, do you think they really want to come here knowing thats how we may have handled the situation? Doubtful.
Either way though, we only ran the ball what, 13 times to our backs today? 6 for Ricky and Ronnie, and one for Polite if I remember correctly? However, we were indeed down all game, so... whatever, it is what it is now. -
I've been complaining ALL SEASON LONG that we've not been running the ball. -
I believe our awful coordinator and weak interior OL had more to do with our running game sucking than R&R.
-
Ronnie seems like a good guy, but I would be ok with us sending Ronnie on his way. He cannot find the opening and is too busy juking side-to-side. Nobody will ever confuse Ronnie with Eric Dickerson. Sorry Ronnie, it's been great but you didn't get your 500 Large and you should look for another team.
-
I think the biggest problem for Ronnie this year was alternating both RBs every drive. I don't remember us doing that before. I remember Ronnie and Ricky splitting carries before, but never do I remember them switching out every single drive. Sort of takes a RB out of his rhythm. Plus, Dan Henning and our problems with our interior OL didn't help much either. I know Ronnie has had a few injuries, but he still only has 1,100 carries or so in his career. I still feel like he has 2 solid seasons left in his tank.
Let's get rid of Ricky and Hilliard, then keep Ronnie and Cobbs and grab a guy like Mark Ingram or Ryan Williams in the draft. -
