And if it takes the promise of $500k to make him run hard for once this season, then I don’t want to pay him a cent next season. Guy is talented, but he’s done nothing all year. He and Ricky are both playing their way out of town.

 

It isn't their fault. They have no interior offensive line to speak of out in front of them, and the plays that are being called aren't exactly creative.

Perhaps the only fair and accurate criticism you’ve leveled in this thread. However, Henning isn’t alone. Linehan didn’t get Ronnie the ball, Mularkey didn’t get Ronnie the ball, and Cameron refused to give Ronnie the ball until he played like a Hall of Famer for six weeks (and admitted his mistake publicly, which was nice).

I still can’t believe you actually wrote this in the same block paragraph in which you credited Ronnie for executing the Wildcat.

You don’t like Sparano, we get it. That doesn’t mean you have to invent facts to justify that.

Either two rookies, or one rookie and one free agent. 2011 free agency and the 2011 draft are well stocked with running backs. DeAngelo Williams and Ahmad Bradshaw can be obtained in free agency, while this is a good year for mid-round running backs (the Parcells tree’s favorite kind).

 

Agree with this Cameron pushed Ronnie and turned him into a good running back.... Brought in Jesse Chatman for competition.....

Also, whwnever the team is flat or starting to look like it might quit I see Ronnie to step up and play with heart. Give his all. He's a guy who CARES about playing hard and always fighting to win. If we dishonor guys like that it'll hurt my belief in rooting for this ownership... because anything contrived to keep Ronnie from getting his incentive would come from the top, since it's their wallet, not from the coaches... especially coaches desperate to win in order to keep their jobs.

Right now there's 26 other RBs in the NFL that can get us 750 yards...Including
Cedric Benson, who has over 1K yards. Guess how many times he's done it?
Once more than Ronnie has. Ronnie is just not that valueable.

 

This is a moot point. No way RB doesn't get 30 yards. He may have to carry the ball 16 times for it, but he'll do it.

 

Then how do you explain Ronnie's 3.7 yard average per rush
versus Ricky's 4.4 yard average per rush with the same offensive line
and offensive coordinator???

Never said that..... I think Ronnie will be gone but Ricky will stay at a good price and definitely still wants to be here. Ronnie will want more than the Dolphins are willing to pay. My gut tells me they don't want him back so I'm not sure an offer will even be made. So yes I'm sure we can find a running back who can give us better production.
Ricky will be here next year though IMO.

Agree with this. Ronnie hasn't run hard all season. 750 yards should have been all but guaranteed if he played up to expectations. If he doesn't hit it, he'll have only himself to blame. Well, he could go give Henning a smack in the mouth too I suppose.

 

Henne is a big part of the reason the running game sucks................no one fears him, so they key on our backs. The difference in Henne over Pennington is teams feared Pennington under 25 yards because Pennington would make you pay. Running the ball was easier because they couldn't/wouldn't stack the box as much.

Henne......... they don't fear at all. Receiver's routinely run wide open and they are invisible.

To be honest, I don't think he has played well this year.
I know it's built into his contract , but its like we are rewarding his mediocrity.
If he was 100 yards away from the escalator clause we wouldn't even be talking about his potential bonus, because he likely wouldn't come close.
To hit 750 yards on the season it takes an average of 46.8 yards/game.
Hardly an impact player.

Now if he goes out and runs for 100+ yards tomorrow, he earns it. But his statline tomorrow will probably looked something like 12 carries for 48 yards.

 

I love Ronnie too.
I feel like a parent. I'm not really mad at him, I'm just disappointed in him.

 

Hopefully he gets 31 yards.

Well, currently, that means that Ronnie is averaging 48 yards per game. Which means if he plays to his average this year, he will get it. But then again, averaging 48 yards a game is quite pathetic.

Lets be honest here though, its not like he accomplished anything in those 6 carries. Similar to all season, I do however think more of that is on the OL, than it is him.

However, I think the real downside to this is how player across the league will view this franchise/staff. If other players look at it that way, do you think they really want to come here knowing thats how we may have handled the situation? Doubtful.

Either way though, we only ran the ball what, 13 times to our backs today? 6 for Ricky and Ronnie, and one for Polite if I remember correctly? However, we were indeed down all game, so... whatever, it is what it is now.

 

Um Desides, not that I'm wanting to "argue", but neither Ronnie nor Ricky's numbers have been called for them to do anything.

I believe our awful coordinator and weak interior OL had more to do with our running game sucking than R&R.

 

Ronnie seems like a good guy, but I would be ok with us sending Ronnie on his way. He cannot find the opening and is too busy juking side-to-side. Nobody will ever confuse Ronnie with Eric Dickerson. Sorry Ronnie, it's been great but you didn't get your 500 Large and you should look for another team.

 

I think the biggest problem for Ronnie this year was alternating both RBs every drive. I don't remember us doing that before. I remember Ronnie and Ricky splitting carries before, but never do I remember them switching out every single drive. Sort of takes a RB out of his rhythm. Plus, Dan Henning and our problems with our interior OL didn't help much either. I know Ronnie has had a few injuries, but he still only has 1,100 carries or so in his career. I still feel like he has 2 solid seasons left in his tank.

Let's get rid of Ricky and Hilliard, then keep Ronnie and Cobbs and grab a guy like Mark Ingram or Ryan Williams in the draft.
