Here's the stage:
-We have a QB in his first year as a starter.
-His team is 0-1.
-During week 2, he faces a division rival and loses.
-During week 4, he faces another division rival and loses.
-His team is now 1-3 through week 4.
-His TOTAL combined stats in the 2 divisional losses: 17/34 for 132 yards, 0 TDs, 4 yard ave, and a QB rating of 60.
Anyone know who this is yet? Here's a hint. His team went on to win the SB that season.
You get a cookie if you said Tom Brady.
The irony of it all: the week 4 loss was to OUR beloved Fins.... and the week 2 loss was to the Jets. Sound familiar?! Was Brady "Tom Brady" back then? Rhetorical question, don't answer. Was he benched following 2 big division losses through 4 games? <Rhetorical again.> NE subsequently finished the season 10-2 and the 2001 NFL Champs with Brady earning SB MVP honors and a ProBowl selection.
If you read this and ONLY think "I can't believe you're comparing Henne to Brady."........ then you need to be taken out to the shed.
The moral of the story is: let a young talented QB develop, have faith in him, and he might just take you to the promise land. Bench him when times are tough and you could ruin everything. Part of developing into a great QB (or person in general really) is having the opportunity to show your mettle during crisis.
My favorite all-time quote:
The rest of this season is a crucial opportunity for Chad to unveil himself to us. If we pull him for Penny, we may never see what he could've become.

Henne's got the Michigan butt-chin too.

The Pats didn't have much of a choice as Bledsoe was out for the season and Damon Huard wasn't going to be an upgrade. Basically, they went to Brady because of necessity, not choice (ie; Belichick isn't necessarily the genius everyone thinks)
Brady also lost those divisional games on the road, and by mid season it was clear that the guy was the real deal. Basically it took Brady only about 7 games to show he had something special. Henne is in game 17 and hasn't shown special ability. He's shown above average to good ability.
And no, he's never going to be Brady. Brady's pocket presence and accuracy (particularly deep accuracy) was evident from the start. -
I really have to think that the Miami fans calling for Henne to be benched haven't believed in him from day 1 and Monday is an opportunity to voice that opinion. I don't believe he did anything in that game that warrants the kind of outrage I've been reading. I've seen plenty of QB's have that type of game.
I haven't really watched Henne play, other than a handful of times. My guess is that there are fans that for whatever reason feel he isn't the answer (based on mechanics, past college play, whatever). He throws a few INT's in a divisional game and BAM! These people have a reason to bring it up - which is fine as long as it is backed up with sound reasoning. But you can't look at that one game and say he isn't the answer - that's my opinion.siciliansith, RickyNeverInhaled, Pariah and 16 others like this. -

Just remember that haters will always hate..... I remember people who hated Dan Marino.. Sadly, there will always be a group of people that will hate on specific players.. The same way I hated Ginn or Chambers is the same way some will hate on Henne.. At the end of the day opinions are like as$holes, everyone has on...ToddsPhins likes this. -

The evolution of a QB, the most complex comprehensive journey in the game.. small, incremental gains is what your looking for in THE 2nd year...
grind, work on fundamentals, footwork, grind, workout, build speed in your motion, watch film, grind, work on your ball handling/play action, make some mistakes, learn from them, stay steady, trust your arm, release the ball off your fingertips, follow thru, grind some more...and Presto, you will have a NFL QB in the third year...any interuptions or knee jerk reactions, and the journey will be spoiled and you will never know what you may of had..RickyNeverInhaled, dolfan7171, resnor and 1 other person like this. -

My god you aren't very smart. He only threw 10 passes in the week 2 game because Bledsoe started and had 28 attempts before getting hurt. But great job including that game in the stats. Also ignore the fact his team won 44-13 in his first career start.

The comparison of Brady to Henne is worthless. The only point is to use nebulous numbers to come to the conclusion that we have potential greatness at QB if only we give it some more time. The same crap was posted about John Beck. He just needed more time, yadda yadda.
Now I think Henne is a ton better than Beck, but I'm also not holding my breath for the greatness that you think is right around the corner. It is just as likely that it will never come. And while we're waiting, one way or another, it would be nice to win some games and score more than 16 points per gameMiguel, finyank13 and MikeHoncho like this. -
His accuracy was evident during 2 of his first 3 games where he completed 50% of his passes for a 4 yard ave and no TDs? -
I'm just not sure that we're actually waiting for anything special. But I hope we are. Nothing would make me happier than for Henne to play great and prove that he's the Qb of the present and future. I'm just not annointing him. -

Winning is enough for me, but that doesn't mean I have to think Jay Fiedler is good. I'm sure you recall that Jay won a ton of games for us. I'm not asking for style points. I'm asking that a team with a supposedly great running game and a top 5 receiver put up more than 16 points per game, particularly when playing bad defenses. -

To start this post off, I'm going to strongly state that I don't think benching Henne is the answer. I don't think he played particularly bad Monday night, and I don't think that he's the reason we lost. However, I don't like exercises like the above because they're too small in scale, and often times they're exercises in futility. I wish I had a dollar for every post I've read on any forum that compared X quarterback to Manning given Manning's first season v. X quarterbacks first season. Plus, you end up with things like the below:
Here's the stage:
-We have a QB in his first year as a starter.
-His team is 0-2. -His first game he throws a pick six.
-During week 4, he faces a division rival and crushes them.
-During week 5, he faces another division rival and wins a shootout.
-His team is now 2-3 through week 5.
-His TOTAL combined stats in the 2 divisional wins: 34/46 for 356 yards, 7.7 YPA and 3 TDS Anyone know who this is yet? Here's a hint. His team went 7-9 and missed the playoffs, losing 3 straight to close the season.
So how did Henne go from completely stomping Brady side-by-side in their first 4 games as starters to missing the playoffs and being 9-8 as a starter through his first 17? For a lot of reasons, obviously. The bottom line is that while Brady struggled through his first 4 games, he distinguished himself as the year wore on and performed well enough to win a Superbowl. Henne, for whatever reason, hasn't done that yet (for that matter, no one from his draft class has). Does that mean he's not going to? Not at all. We shouldn't jump all over macro comparisons to make a point when we should be looking at the big picture.schmolioot likes this. -

We already tried playing that way for a decade and it got us nowhere -
Henne beat Buffalo and the Jets in his 1st 2 games as a starter. In his 2nd game vs the Jets he goes 20-26 for 241, 76%, 2 TDs, 0 INTs, 9.3 AVE, and a rating of 130. Brady's 1st 2 games as a starter 1-1. Henne's 1st 2: 2-0.
But none of this is the point..... and of course you would be the idiot to make this into something else. If the Brady scenario were instead Miami and Henne...... and Chad came in and lost to the Jets, then lost to the Pats in week 4, then irrational fans would be calling for his head. Oh wait..... we did lose to the Jets and Pats through week 4..... and irrational fans ARE calling for Henne's head. That's the point. You don't yank a young QB just b/c of a few games.MrClean likes this. -

The point is, by the end of that firsts eason he was firmly established as the starter and had proven himself worthy of that as he led a team that was 5-11 the year prior into the playoffsMiguel likes this. -
