You never know when you get lucky enough to land THAT guy. Who knows, as many times as we have failed to land THAT guy since Danny retired, we're due for something good to happen for us at that position. Could be Thigpen. I've watched him play - and in a previous posted I noted his footwork and release. He seems to have very good poise and leadership. What he brings to the Dolphins is an unknown obviously. But this COULD be a very good thing for us. If Henne fails, at least we know what we'd have in Thigpen. He gave us hell last year. With a little more experience, he could be a very good QB. I guess time will tell. Honestly, I'm very intrigued about this acquisition.

Tony Gonzalez openly called for him to be the QB of the future late last season.
I don't believe Pat White will ever surpass Thigpen on the depth chart. And Thigpen is under contract the next two seasons.charlestonphan, steveincolorado, dolfan7171 and 4 others like this. -
Henne will start the next 8 games without a doubt IMO. If he shows no spark of excellence within that time then I'm not sure they bother with him to finish the season or into next season.
So we'll see.
Lets just hope Henne tears it up and makes everything nice and simple for us.HULKFish likes this. -
As I said in another thread, I really like Thigpen. I thought he did a very good job last year in KC. I thought it was a mistake to pay Cassell that FA money when they had TT on the roster playing so well in his 2nd season. If Henne doesn't pan out, this kid could be the future I think...

At 25 yoa and 6'3", 235 he is got the build and young enough for further development. We needed another QB with some upside and abiliities and he seems to offer all of that.
Pat White is still learning and hasn't shown anything yet. Its better to have the insurance rather than put everything on Whites shoulders if Henne were to go down.
IMO its better to select someone we want rather than being put in a position to wait to get someone out of desperation if we lost Henne. -
I'm not buying the some of the optimism on Thigpen... I think it's just insurance in case Henne goes down (knock on wood) because Pat White just isn't ready to take the role of a starting quarterback at this point in time (3 games into his rookie year, who can blame him)..
I think he can amount to something, but I don't think it will happen.Agua, dolfan7171 and like2god like this. -

This move is purely to provide a backup to Henne, and strengthen the WC QB position...and give White time to get acclimated to the NFL. It really couldnt be a better move for the Phins.HULKFish, Frumundah Finnatic and like2god like this. -
This news made my day. -

He had a good last year in College.
3296 passing yards/64% completion rate/9.72 yards per pass attempt. 656 yards rushing at 5.8 ypc.
He could replace Pat White. He has the size to play in the "Wildcat QB" position, 6'1" 225 pounds. -
what exactly did white do to deserve so much crap? He didn't draft himself. So far we let him throw one pass and hand the ball off a few times and yet it seems everyones already written him off as a player for us.
Sheesh, let the kid play.GridIronKing34, 2k5, SargeZ33 and 1 other person like this. -
Now, we have 3 young guys, 3 chances to hit on a franchise. And if more than one develops, We'll matt schaub someone.Frumundah Finnatic and padre31 like this. -
I dont think he really needs to tear it up in order to solidify his spot. Dont get me wrong, that would be the ideal situation. However, if he comes in and plays well and wins some games then i think the job is his to lose for next year. -
Here is one opinion of him

My opinion is based on what I've/we've seen in training camp, preseason and the two games he's gotten in.
I certainly don't believe he's a finished product. Far from it. But to this point, I have not seen the athleticism or speed from him. He looks small in there. I can't seem him running inside with any regularity. He's too thin.
The game just looks too big for him right now. He's clearly not ready. Not the case with Thigpen. Right now Thigpen is better in every way IMO. If nothing else, he's better equipped to run the spread option packages we've setup for White.steveincolorado, Rick 1966, Colorado Dolfan and 1 other person like this. -

For example, consider the speed at which KC installed an offense for Thigpen, by game 5, the Spread was KC's offense, that is amazingly fast, which would mean Thigpen is a fast learner at least. -

I agree Muck..and this move actually gives them the time they need to just let White develop. I think youll see a different Pat White physically next season....now whether Pat ever gets acclimated to NFL speed, is another question...but now theres time to let that just develop. -
I trust the opinions of these fans, I've known them for a few years and they're honest and have good football IQ's, it's not a group of fair weather fans who turn on a player once he leaves or do the "OMGZ He's a bust!!" nonsense. :wink2:
Reading through their comments during preseason, "Thiggy" was demoted to 3rd string because he played terribly, he has a knack for being innacurate and it was the source of alot of frustration for even his biggest supporters.Agua likes this. -
The guy had went 22 TD in 11 games last year.... On Kansas ****ing City's roster... With their garbage oline and terrible run game. Not exactly a QB friendly team (although Bowe and Gonzo were solid).
Honestly, if this kid gets a shot to start at some point, I think he'll not only play well, I think he'll get consideration next season.
Obviously Henne factors in big time too. If he can be what everyone hopes he can, wonderful... Thigpen is a great backup. If he does, I'll be exciting to see this kid week 10 or so... -
man, we got 3 very unique young talented prospects at the quarterback position. can't think of any team that can say that right now. i'm very excited to see where this goes.
-
If Thigpen starts because of Henne Becking it, then I'm guessing it would be in week 11 at the earliest.
-
Love the move. I question whether Thigpen can run a regular offense, being he ran a spread in KC, but I do think he can make an immediate impact on Wildcat plays. With Henne, White and Thigpen on the roster, we have to hit on at least one. Dear God I hope so...
-
A backup was required, given our situation ... Thigpen immediately gives us that. Thigpen is more of a threat to PW than to Henne ... Henne will show that he is our guy by the end of the season. Thigpen can come in and run the WC ... since PW is obviously not ready at this point ... and the staff is intent on easing him in.
