Mark the Calendar..January 6th,2011. Never will you witness so many mistakes...lies...misconceptions..diversions..false rumors..bad reporting..whimsical..uneducated..unsubstantiated..lack of facts...lack of basic journalism...lack of integrity...common sense...misinformation..lack of credibility.
A sad day for this whole "new" technical world we live in when reporting something FIRST so outweighs getting anything right. People flip-flopping so fast that noone knew or had any idea what was truth and was was garbage.
I feel so dirty having followed this debacle all day. Sad.

I am already seeing posts from fans bashing Ross and the Dolphins for how they treated Sparano. What a bunch of crap. Ross and the Dolphins never made any statements about what was going on. The media is what made a mockery of the situation. Everybody wants to be the first to report what is happening, taking a best guess and making crap up and reporting it like it is a fact. Then when it comes out the media was clueless all along, some people want to blame Ross and the Dolphins like they something to do with the rumors that were running wild the past several days. What a joke.

I guess if you think about it the Dolphins may have not even offered a contract to Harbaugh. You still have to wonder if this is the medias fault or the Dolphins. After all, Ross did fly out there last night on a private jet just to meet with Harbaugh. What happened, he met with him then suddenly decided he didn't like him? Obviously scheduling a meeting with him is going to get the media talking.
If it's Harbaugh that didn't have much interest in the Dolphins, then the media isn't fully to blame, Dolphins are more to blame for botching everything. Whatever, they all suck. This is the first time I'm going to be excited when the Super Bowl is over and the NFL is done with until September. Go Atlanta, New Orleans, Green Bay, Seattle(yeah right) or Kansas City.jason8er likes this. -

I don't recall the Dolphins ever releasing a statement saying, "We are flying out to SF and trying to sign Harbaugh." This is just the way the media operates. Everyone is in competition to be the first to report it...ESPN, local press, everyone who wants to be someone with a twitter account, etc...so they all speculate and make crap up in an attempt to be the first to report it. -
The most pathetic part was that Mortensen tweets that Ross in in California talking to the family wanting them to get on a plane back to Miami. Ten mins later he is tweeting its done and Sparano stays. Not a clue all day from anyone.

This whole situation is like when your girlfriend promises you sex, and talks about it all day, and when you get home she says she is too tired.

The media is going to take a hit for this.
But I do not doubt for one second that this deal was essentially done. Too many people whose info is always good had it. And I heard it from multiple angles/fronts.
Whether he changed his mind, Dolphins walked away, whatever....something happened.Section126 and calphin like this. -
You don't ignore the frenzy surrounding your head coach, then jet off to talk with the hot shot college coach the day after his last game if your intentions are anything other than finding another head coach. This could all have been put to rest by the owner or GM saying, Tony is our guy. They never did it, and let the world to speculate. Thems the facts, if Tony was the guy all along then the person to blame is the owner. The rest of the stuff is just the circus that comes with acting like an organization of clowns.

Part of it was Ross' creation. And part of it is the information age we live in. The internet, twitter, etc. make everything instantaneous. So it's all out there and when things unexpectedly change and dust settles, the picture becomes more convoluted.
But again, I heard stuff from different sides of the equation. And it all pointed to the same thing.
Just a crazy, awful 36 hours. -
Well, Let Brandon play in the NBA and see if Bosh and James want to play te or wr.
-
The part that bothers me the most...is that nothing is going to be learned by the mess of today. Nothing. Get the information out fast...worry later if it is right...just get it out fast and by all means get it our FIRST. I have never seen so many different varying declaritive points all over the map today.

The rules and/or the medium changes every 5 years it seems.
The thing about Twitter is, I suspect the whole "two sources" thing isn't always obeyed by the media. It certainly isn't going to be a concern for the non-media and wannabes.
And such is the drawback of everyone having a 'voice'. An instant voice.Ricky'sBong likes this. -

As I said in another post, bet your bottom dollar the ENTIRE FA market was following all the broo ha ha going closely too. Now, what do they think of how the team is run ? Regardless if the reports were true or not. Perception is reality these days the the perception is the Owner of the Miami Dolphins went out on a limb offereing 3 high profile coaches contracts while his current coach was sitting in Davie ? Evidently, Ross knows very little about PR or needs a new PR firm. OR, his current PR firm just sent the notice in they are going in a different direction. LOL

I've said this before plenty of times, but I always felt basketball has had the worst reporting of all sports. You can find millions of rumors about basketball per offseason, almost anyone is a reporter when it comes to basketball and everyone has sources. I always felt happy we never had to deal with such bad journalism and reporting when it came to football, football guys were always spot on, everyone reported the same news and usually one never contradicted the other. But my god, the past week has been just an embarrassment, not only for Miami, but for the NFL as a whole. I'm ashamed to have followed this, I never thought that these imbeciles would do this just for the sake of having followers on their twitters. Please end your twitter accounts and get back to reporting real news. Do not turn football into what basketball has become the past 10 years.

I understand what everyone here is posting...I understand your anguish...your pain...your frustration, but this is a result of all of these sports reporters wanting to be the "FIRST" to break a story...and everyone's incesstant need to know.

The damage that has been done to this organizations reputation will take years to fix. If Sparano can somehow manage to right this ship next year he should be the Dolphins coach for life because I just can't see any way possible for this guy to succeed. It would be one of the alltime great coaching feats.DolfanJake likes this. -
Typical overreaction of the media and fans hungry for a better team.Let the smoke clear and sort it out.

whaaa? now i wouldn't say that abput the media as a whole.i listened to 790 theticket and sporano was and i quote "done" here in miami and for 3 hours dan was on and on how harbaugh was the new coach for like hours..even had promo's running.people tracking planes and more friggin tweets than you can shake a stick at saying it's definately going to happen maybe.and alot of that came from the local media.how can you go back to sporano after all that yesterday? the pickle family circus is what miami has become.
both sides are at fault here because for the past few days nothing but false rumors have been spewing out of the media as a whole and not one dolphin rep chose to nip them in the bud. -

Typical media circus, sucks in a bunch of fans so desperate for news that they become gullible enough to believe anything, then those same folks blame everyone except themselves. Face it if folks didn't get so caught up in this it would not have been a big deal at all. In the old days Ross would have hopped on his plane flew out to talk to Harbaugh and came back home without anyone being the wiser. But nowadays we have flight trackers, twitters, blackberries, internet all kinds of crap which brings the old whisper a rumor into the guy next to yous ear and see how much it changes by the time it gets to the other side of the room into a scale of epic proportions. And now we still have folks defending thier positions truly believing in their minds that it must have all been true because they are unable to admit they just got played by the media circus. So it continues to grow...even though its over with.
