Please provide one somebody. Aside from "continuity." Why is it good for the Miami Dolphins that he will be the coach next year? I know there are fans out there who like this. Why do you like this?

I'm just going to say this. All we heard going into the season and even during the season is that the players don't like Philbin. That is clearly not the case. Most had his back.
Will it mean anything? We'll find out over the next year.unluckyluciano likes this. -

So they win what amounts to a meaningless game for him? Had they won against Baltimore, they would be playing a win and in game next week.

If you can't see why Philbin is being retained then you might need to revisit why you ever thought he should be fired to begin with.

There weren't many other options, weren't going to get Harbaugh, and settling on some coach that was lower on their list (like Philbin was when they hired him) could just put Miami in the same mediocre place with a different coach for another 3 years?
So by keeping Philbin maybe: 1. They actually do well next year or 2. They probably don't, Philbin gets fired, and they get a TOP coach that they actually wanted in the first place. So...2015 might suck, but lead to a better 2016? I don't know... they fail year after year so I just expect this to end in disaster, but possibly lead to a better future.ASOT and Sethdaddy8 like this. -
One good thing I just mentioned in the other thread -
Since both Philbin and Hickey will have had 2 seasons together - If Miami fails in 2015 as fans we will almost be guaranteed a brand new regime. No hold overs, no lame ducks.jdang307 and Clark Kent like this. -

All we will have to endure. The good games, he false hope. And the collapse. The heart break. Knowing we really, truly, can't compete when it counts. It's a hard thing former to sit on for an entire year.MonstBlitz likes this. -
If they can't get a top head coach after this season, what makes you think they would be able to hire a top head coach after next season?
Personally I don't think Ross has any idea how to go about hiring a quality head coach. He probably realized that only mediocre head coaches are willing to work for him and since he already has a mediocre head coach he likes, he decided to just stick with Philbin.
My prediction for the 2015 season is 8-8 and the Dolphins will once again fail to make the playoffs. Ross will then reward Philbin with a new three year contract. -

Clicked on this link expecting a 20 paragraph writing on why Philbin should be brought back. Instead no one has any good reasons to keep him.

If that's not enough study some tape like I do for several hours per week. Its not rocket science you just have to put the time in. Or you can stick with believing you know better than the pros and people with far more info than you have.
You say I'm confident but that's a lie. I have a very humble opinion on what goes on with the Dolphins. That's a far cry from those who instinctively call "idiot" anytime the team doesn't do what they want.jdallen1222 and mlb1399 like this. -

Because no objection person could look at the coaching of Philbin over the past three years and come to any other conclusion than he is an average head coach. His record of 23-24 over the last three years is about as mediocre as it gets.
Some people are satisfied with mediocre and have no problem with the owner retaining a coach who isn't good enough to get his team in the playoffs, but at least wins half their games every year.
I assume these are the same individuals who were told by their parents when they were young that it was okay to bring home all C's on their report card. When being mediocre in your own life is acceptable, you certainly don't want to place higher expectations on others.
I guess my problem with Philbin and this entire team is that being average is just not acceptable to me. I don't mind a B game every now and then, but I expect A's for the vast majority of their games each season. To me C or below games are never acceptable.FinSane and Sethdaddy8 like this. -
I am as angry as I've been in quite a while as a fan. I am angry because I want to be a relevant football team. I care, too much probably. I started this thread, not to have little mini Philbin wars. Those will transpire all over the site and internet. I am trying to find SOME peace in all of this. Somebody, tell me why this is good. Why its better than a white whale like Harbaugh who will be available. Or a coach like Rex, who I HATE, but succeeded with far worse OC's and QBs. Help me people.

I'm gonna preface this by saying I want Philbin gone as much as the next guy. But, maybe Ross is thinking if Philbin falls short next year, he'll just promote Lazor rather than hire someone from outside the organization? Maybe he wants to give Philbin one last chance (and honor the term of his contract) because he likes him, but sees Lazor as his potential successor long term? Honestly, that's all I can come up with. That, and he's (Ross) just a total freakin' moron.
