AFC East Blog - ESPN
Well, every fan of an AFC East team knows the Vernon "da Ghost" Gholston story, taken #6 overall, he has produced next to nothing for 3 seasons in NY.
However, Aaron Maybin has produced even less than Gholston, and was taken #11 overall two yrs ago and is not even being activated on game days, last yr I chalked that up to his prolonged holdout in 2009, but in 2010, 6 games into the season, his Coach is washing him out..already.
The switch to the 4-3, which should have benefitted Maybin, in fact means nothing at all, so apparently Maybin cannot even manage a role as a "pin your ears back passrushing DE" in a 4-3.
With Ralph Wilson's near legendary cheapness, Maybin may not be long for the Bills roster.
FWIW, I liked Maybin coming out of PSU, he was young at the time, and I thought maybe to overdeveloped physically. Maybin had a bodybuilders' physique, but the NFL game maybe required different sets of muscle groups than "Greek Statue", the league is not a beauty contest and sometimes squats and power cleans are needed more than Curls...

I rather have Aaron Maybin's mother than Vernon Gholston.
-
Gholston has NEVER had a sack in his entire career. -
It's Gholston vs Maybin..the Battle of Busts..to the death!!!
 -
epic debate
-
I ALMOST have to go with Maybin, the Bills switched to the 4-3 and Maybin was supposedly a top flight passrushing 4-3 DE and he still cannot crack the lineup, or even be activated on game days.
Gholston was a higher draft pick, so Maybin has a high hurdle to overcome. -

I see the Bills switched back to a 43. If this is permanent, i wonder if Maybin could be had for a mid round pick? I wouldn't be mad if we made an offer for him, as long as its not a high draft pick.

Gholston at least has the excuse that he couldn't make the jump to OLB, Maybin does not even have that one.
As for acquiring him, I'd doubt it, if he cannot play for ex Phin Lb Coach Edwards, how could he play for Sparano? -
And for good measure, Ghost and Maybe are not alone, let's toss Derrick Harvey into the mix:
Say it ain't so Del Rio, say it ain't so..:D -
There were some shots of him in the gym Deej, and he looked lean like a body builder, I thought he needed to add some thickness to his build. -

The record would show that one of the reason's why I thought he would be a bust pick is because of what you said yourself...his frame is very thin, popcorn muscles if you will, and to play that position you must have some core power in this league to generate pressure against tackle's.
One of my quotes was this.
''Maybin is the most overrated player being considered in the first round''.. -
classic case of being born genetically gifted and taking it for granted...
Not anymore...you wanna talk about core power..this freak is using 1 arm to set the edge against NFL tackle's. -
Sort of like the Legion de Etrangere's motto "March or Die", in the CFL it is "show me something or you get an apple and a map and find your own way back home".
Perfumed Princes like Gholston, Maybin, Harvey, would not make it past a tryout.
Something about the CFL's 1 yd wide neutral zone Deej, it forces a player to improve their take off or they just won't make it, Cam's 4 pt stance developed up there, Gruden on the MNF loss to the Pasties said:
"Look how low he is getting in that 4 point stance, Jason Taylor taught him.."
Err, no, that was to combat that 1 yd neutral zone in the CFL. In the NFL that means those slow Tackles have to try and block a guy who is used to moving much faster by need, but who now is head up on the Olinemen, it is like a 100 mph fastball.djphinfan likes this. -
Ghost always seemed miscast in NY, and he does not seem to have that "want to", wereas Harvey is just a typical Florida Gator DE, they have a poor tradition going all the way back to Clifford Charlton or Huey Richardson. -
Iam sure maybin was a real skinny kid...probably went on a few cycle's in his day..jmo. -
Over developed frontward leaning muscle structure, chicken legs as well.
He needs thickness through his upper back and hit the squat rack for Olympic style lifts, not what he had been doing.
I mean, look at those chicken legs, his calves are not meant for explosiveness imo.djphinfan likes this. -
So Padre, as you can tell, the men standing to his left and right in the picture, could put him on his ***..
Kid tryin to play a man's game..lol.
Looks to me his plan from the get, was to fool folk's with the body..ala Vern G.
Bills scout dept. got suckered, shame on them. -
Add in he missed most of Camp 09, and small wonder the kid is all messed up..
I'd take a shot on him, stick him on Specials, and leave him there until he discovers his inner Jason Allen... -

Max salary Maybin would be offered is 200k, compared to a base 3 million per yr?
And that is "if" he were extended an offer, the CFL is surprisingly choosey.
Recall Abe Wright from the 07 draft? He washed out, ditto a guy I was certain could play in the CFL, Brandon Sharpe, he did not last two weeks, this after finishing 2nd in the NCAA in sacks in 09.
Would not surprise me if Chris McCoy wound up trying out though. -
Dude has the right build for CFL ball, and he needs the time to tighten up. -
Oh look Aaron Maybin has a rap song:
Let's check in on Vernon Gholston, I believe he did rate a start the other week:
5 tackles after 8 games.
Tied with Aaron Maybin with 5 tackles, but Maybin has not been active in the last 3 weeks.... -
lol this guy is an idiot.
-
-
I admit I went to his website and I don't know which is funnier: his "rap song" or his "highlight" video.
