Gase seems to want to lay the blame on the players not studying for the last two years? What the F man you are the head coach you should have made sure a long time ago that these guys knew the offense or else you should have booted them out the door. Grow some balls and stop trying to play patty cake with the players.

I hate that he keeps trying to take blame off of the offensive line and shift it toward the running backs. The problem is not ajayi or the running backs the problem is you dont know how to design and call good running plays and this oline is made up of mostly soft pansy fatt asses who can't block worth a damn and need somebody to light a fire under their asses. Gase is obviously not the guy for that all he does is cover asses and pat them on the back instead.

 

Some of that comes across to me as, "I'm calling the right plays (or whoever calls them) but the players don't know what to do OR don't execute properly." which is disturbing. This is the SECOND year in this offense for most of the players. Gase should have been getting this corrected well before training camp was over.

Still, I'm willing to see how things go the rest of the season. Gase deserves a chance to get things turned around and learn some lessons as a new head coach. He HAS to be willing to learn and change himself though, or he'll never be a great head coach.

Just to give the rest of the story and not to make excuses, because I really don't care either way:
Parker is fragile, I am not going to make stuff up. But just to clarify, he wanted to play. What Gase said was that Parker practiced at the "highest tempo", but since he was not tested in practice (I think he means physically tested as far as contact) Gase decided to keep him out as he knew it would be a particularly physical game outside. Remember, Gase was calling the offense out as a whole in that very same conversation and he did call Parker out last year about taking care of himself and on his willingness to play through pain. He does have skinny legs (the lower legs) and he will probably always be vulnerable to a degree, but Gase not calling him out on his toughness and maturity this time tells me there may be improvement.
Again, I am just passing along what he is saying. I don't really care about Parker or any of these players at this point. If I kept Parker past his rookie contract what I would not do is dump a whole lot of money into him if he keeps missing a handful of games each year. You have to be able to count on major contributors if he becomes one.

 

I could be wrong but I believe the original statement should read more like:

• Says DeVante Parker didn’t play because he (Gase) knew it would be a physical game.

I don't believe Parker benched himself because he didn't want to play in a physical game. Seems like Gase did not want to risk re-injury.

The QB room has never been the problem - which includes Moore.

If you want to argue Moore's game-related limitations are what he wasn't comfortable with that's completely fair game

 

Translation-

1) The offensive line is "good enough" if the skill players would do what they're supposed to do.

2) Gase really doesn't like Moore for whatever reason (which is evident in what he didn't say).

3) Ajayi is freelancing way too much instead of hitting the darn hole.

4) Landry is running the wrong routes quite often. So has Stills to a lesser extent.

5) Parker is a freaking sissy that needs to be babied.

6) Get ready to see a lot more of Carroo, Grant and several other benchwarmers on offense. Only, Carroo can't memorize the darn playbook either...which is why we're pretending Thomas is a WR1 lately.

7) Look for Landry or Carroo to be traded before the deadline next week if effort doesn't change dramatically in the next few days (that's from a different interview saying some players may not be on the team anymore).

8) This is all Gase's fault for not blasting folks after superficial wins.

 

I think #5 could be taken two completely different ways. I'm not saying I think it was one way and not the other...just that it could be taken two different ways.

To me that is not an indictment. That tells me that even with the mood Gase must be in right now he sees Parker responding to being called out last year. That would be a guy I would keep around if he can avoid missing too many games, as I said above. Either way it would not be an indictment of his toughness.

 

Yeah, I thought about it both ways as well....but then I thought about the conditioning issues last season AND him getting hurt twice this season already. You could be right, he's just protecting his best receiver (on paper), but I have a feeling that he was being calculating there. Maybe not.

 

You guys could be right....he also said "our best players" when talking about people who didn't know the plays. If DeVante was out hurt and didn't stick his nose in the new playbook, then there would be no reason to play him.

Remember, Gase didn't call anyone out by name....although we know the comment was at least partially aimed at Landry for the bad routes and Ajayi for not hitting the assigned holes.

 

Williams for missing blocking assignments, not that he is one of our best, but that doesn't mean the non best are all prepared either.
I'm pretty sure Mike Pouncey would be one too. Ever notice how the line usually responds when he is out injured? Sometimes the backup gets physically dominated, but the line as a whole has less "whiffs" IIRC.

 

As much as it pains me, Miami NEEDED this azz whipping. Going into Thursday night's game, Miami was 4-2...BARELY. We showed sparks in a 17-0 deficit against the Falcons and down 14 against the Jets but let's be honest, we were being manhandled in those games and after remarkable comebacks, we had players saying "Quit doubting us". Well the doubt is well founded and it showed Thursday.

I'm glad to see Gase angry. I'm glad to see him calling players out. I'm glad to see him calling himself and the coaching staff out. After last season's miraculous turnaround, I think everyone just assumed the work had been done and the Dolphins were going to surf the wave of last year's euphoria right into the playoffs again. Well that ride into the playoffs last year came with some hard freaking work.

As I recall, Gase had one of these moments last season and the 6 game winning streak followed. With a mini-bye, I hope to God the Dolphins get their heads out of their butts and put in the work needed to be a winning football team. The defense has been playing relatively well (until Thursday) but the offense has GOT to get it in gear. I said previously that if the offense played HALF as well as the defense, we could very well be undefeated.

We'll see if this tangent by Gase is the wake-up call Miami needs or if it divides the team. Hopefully the former but if it ends up being the latter, then certain players need to go. The Dolphins as a team SHOULD be embarrassed and if certain players & coaches aren't, then they are part of the problem.

Players aren't smart enough ? .......Pretty creative never heard that one before.... looks like the coaches might have a living example right before their eyes of their own problem..... ( but then I'm just a fan who knows nothing, which might not be a worse spot to start from ....again)

I'd guess Landry, Ajayi, Pouncey, Tunsil and Thomas are definitely a few of them. Stills I think might be the only WR who puts in the effort, he's the guy Gase usually praises and the one who's made the most plays lately.

 

You just don't see the really good teams resting on their laurels. They come prepared each week. They have their regular playbook that may or may not be better than ours, and typically several tweaked plays designed to take advantage of weaknesses they find in our game tapes. Baltimore defensive line was playing like this was their superbowl. And our offensive line was not up for the challenge. Good teams take games like that and realize how important they are and find the GUTS and DISCIPLINE to take advantage. Great teams, do that week in and week out, regardless of last week's performance. Thought we had that figured out last season. Coaches and captains need to constantly remind players every day. But when it gets to be tedious, they don't want to listen. But they HAVE to. That is the difference in DISCIPLINE you need to succeed. You can tell when they've worked hard. They can come out and play right up to the end with the best team's in the league, and then lay down with their skirts up against teams like Baltimore and the Jets.

Sounds like Philbin in the locker Room...What do mean guys aren't studying do they not test them on these things and run these plays in practice? Pure cop out if you ask me blaming everybody else because they can't execute his crappy screens.

 

I don't think Gase wants those crappy screens. I think he runs them because players can't execute the plays he wants to run.

 

Then you send out a two TE set and hand the ball off to Ajayi. Vary that with play-action when they stack the line and throw deep to the single covered guy. Or a 10 yd crossing route to Jarvis while rolling Cutler/Moore to the side he is running toward. Hammering the defense with Ajayi will pay off in the fourth quarter -even if you gain little to no yards at first.

Or just run the bubble screen yet again for a two yd loss and hope the next one you call will somehow gain 8-10 yds..... and complain that the players are not 'executing' or understanding the offense.

 

It starts with personnel, and frankly, management needs to be fired, whoever is making the decisions in the draft room (Tannebaum?) needs to be fired. We've whiffed in the draft almost every time. Occasionally we get semi-lucky with a guy like Tankersley, who looks promising, but we're mostly whiffing in draft after draft.

I used to want to put the blame on Gase, but it's hard to do that with the teams he has to work with. WIth that said, I don't think Gase should be HC and OC. He is young and he needs to focus on one aspect (HC) and oversee the other if need be. He also needs to get over his marriage to Cutler (I know more is not much better if at all) and the entire FIN Fan base is probably missing Tannehill right now, and probably regretting hating on him.

IMO GASE NEXT YEAR IS THE LAST YEAR YOU HAVE TO PROVE YOURSELF(This team needs to be prepared to play 60 minutes EVERY game NO EXCEPTIONS, if a player isn't willing to do it I DONT CARE IF IT's SUH, you BENCH HIS ***! I agree with Gase in that sentiment and that's one reason I want to give him a fair shake. Don't want to put the best effort in? Next man UP.

And who brought in that cokehead? Who benefitted from Ajayi carrying him last year despite barley giving him touches at first? Who benefitted from having Peyton Manning as his QB? Gase is a joke.
