Here is my situation.....i just moved with my wife and 4 month old son to Charlotte NC from Wellington Florida. on March 1st of this year. We planned on living with my 'rents and saving money, cause it is cheaper to live in nc rather than south fla.....(not terribly cheaper however)
We miss home, my wife and i miss our friends, up here in NC we have NO ONE but my parents, and we were just rocked with the information that my 'rents are foreclosing on their home. So we have to A) stay with them and move into a rental somewhere up here in nc.....or B) move back to west palm, and move in with my buddy who has a lawyer dad and has some dough (so we wont worry about his end of rent)
Up here it makes sense, because eventually when we get our own place it will be cheaper to rent.....however, its boring....honestly, i miss being able to just drive to marlins or dolphin games, or training camp, i graduated highschool in south florida, and have tons of friends and things to do there.....we are stuck in a bind.
I will be able to transfer with my job to another one down there, and we can use our stimulus check to get us down there (gas wise) and we have a "rooms to go" card so we can get some furniture for the new digs, i just....dont know what to do?
People (family) are telling us its horrible to live in west palm right now, but its horrible to live anywhere, gas prices are 3.90 here where i am, so its not a HUGE drop off from down there, plus we will be happier......and we just lived in west palm 2 months ago, we know what its like to live there.....how about some advice from my 'phin fan friends?
Stay in NC shuffle around rental to rental with my big family and our baby, or go get our own place in WPB and make it work there?

Seriously bro my lease is up next month and my girl and I are looking at places in Margate/Tamarac/Plantation. You can get a 2/2 for around 1200 in a decent neighborhood. Personally Id rather pay a little more for a better location. But thats obviously the choice you have in front of you.alen1, texasPHINSfan and SICK like this. -
West Palm has been big money in recent years but it's turned into a buyers market lately. That should reflect on the rental market as well.

I would do what is best for you and your immediate family. If you can easily transfer jobs and were happier in FLA then that sounds like the best option. Also sounds like your family would have more "space" that way. Good Luck with whatever you decide to do bro. :up:SICK likes this. -

I hate renting.... I really do. But even with that, I refuse to move to the cheaper areas because I enjoy where I am at. So I guess that what I am saying is that you should be where you are happy. But then again I don't have a family, so my advice is really null.

it seems everyone so far has the same opinion on the matter as i do.....i just miss being where i grew up, where i will bump into old friends at publix, and where i wont get lost if i make a wrong turn somewhere....i just feel out of my element here in charlotte, this is another world.....its just tough because its cheaper and with a 4 month old son, it makes things even more interesting! Anyone know a baby sitter? haha or a cheap day care down in south fla ?

i'd rather pay more to live in a nicer area. family is nice, but you don't want to marry yourself to your parents location, especially given that their own situation is in flux.

given the options: pay 1500 and live in south florida, or get paid 1500 to live in NC; i'd still go with south florida.:up:

financially its the smartest thing, but emotionally, and happiness-wise we should be in west palm, where we have better access to everything, from miami, to orlando, our friends and where we grew up

BTW...exhaust your options...foreclosure is only foreclosure when the property sells at teh courthouse.. try to pull a LTV loan and try to keep it at all costs. -

The traffic doesnt suck in all of So. Fla, the housing prices suck everywhere, and yes I agree the sports radio is crappy but If you're a fan of the Panthers and Heat (like myself) in addition to the Phins you cant go wrong. I live right down the street from the Bank Atlantic Center and wouldnt trade it for Melbourne if you paid me (no offense) :wink2:

Sorry this is happening for you guys right now. You need to look at what is best for your wife and baby right now. Sometimes what we want and what we need are two different things. If renting gives you a place to live until things come around better then so be it. IMO.

Get your own place with your wife and kid and make it work man. First off, you're happier down there and in the end thats really what matters most. What makes you happy? If you're happy, money situations will not be as stressful on your shoulders, IMO. Head back down to WPB and enjoy your life. You only have one. :up:
