Saw this blog today and it discusses the obvious conundrum facing the Dolphins as 4:00PM approaches and Manning appears nowhere close to making up his mind. Many posters here have made the same point.

So what say you? Should Miami wait out Manning? Or press hard after Flynn?
Wait out Manning or go after Flynn?

Flynn will be overpaid. This makes me wary of chasing Flynn.

I think they pushed to get a meeting with Manning before today's start of FA so they'd have an idea of where they stand. I'm not sure if it's just Flynn they're concerned about. He may or may not wait, although it's in his best interest to.
I have a feeling they may have their eyes on a free agent or two not named Flynn that they'd like to move quickly on but don't know if they'll truly have the resources if Manning is in play. -
With the money floating around and anticipation building for this FA period above what we've seen for a while, I think our definition of overpaid is going to need adjusting by the weekend. So I don't think the Flynn contract will actually look that bad once all is said and done, as has been posted by others the detail of when guaranteed monies are paid and what escape routes exist within the contract will be key.
As to the original question, unless something incredible happened between Philbin and Manning in the meeting yesterday that has blown Peyton's football mind, I think we need to move on. If its a strength of roster/cap decision we're already out of it. -
It's almost an impossible choice for me. Most of you know I have been pro Manning since back when most thought there wasn't even a chance Indianapolis would dump him. But with what's developed over the past weekend I don't think we have much of a shot. I still feel he's a much better option than Flynn, but I'm not sure we can afford to wait Manning out. I think the meeting yesterday was a courtesy and I sincerely hope Miami came away from the meeting knowing whether or not there was a realistic shot of signing him. My guess is they know he's leaning another direction which makes their decision easy if they feel Flynn is their guy.
On the other hand, if Philbin doesn't think Flynn is worth a big contract then wait out Manning's answer and then go draft a guy when he shoots us down.
I guess it's really hard to choose without knowing how Miami, specifically Philbin and Ireland feel about Matt Flynn. If Philbin was ready to hitch his coaching career to Matt Flynn, I would vote cut bait on Manning and go get him. Otherwise, I'd wait Manning's decision. Not because I think we have a realistic shot of landing him, but because I think we should go after a guy in the draft. For this poll, I'll assume Philbin is pro Flynn.Bumrush likes this. -
Is Flynn even a smart move? I know a lot of you said that 2 first rounders and 1 second rounder for Griffin was a lot, but giving FLynn 60+ million dollars for unproven QB play is just as risky.
It's just the Dolphins MO. They are again in a position where they can fail much more likely than they can win. -
If he wants to bring his buddies along, then he should allocate some of his monster contract to pay them, so when Saturday and Clark end up on IR, it doesn't hurt whichever team as much.
-
I was wondering if the Dolphins did restructured contracts to some players to gain more cap room...
-
Just wondering for those of you choosing Manning: Are you picking that option because you feel we still have a legitimate shot, or because you're not sold on Flynn? Or both?
-
Imo: Flynn wont sign immediately with any team, once Manning is out of the equation. Flynn will be the most in Demand so it will better benefit him to wait, More money for him.. Again just my opinion. I am very interested in Flynn, but nerves are there that we wont get anyone. Will take a chill pill, seems the phins are doing things right being quiet and keeping things close to the vest so it wont implode in there face due out the friggin media...

I'm pro Manning, but, I voted go after Flynn, now. From the looks of everything, media bias aside, Manning really took a good look at the broncos and that seemed to be his most serious visit, it just seems like we are hanging out to dry at this point., i'm sure they know more after his interview with us, but...I think he goes to Denver.
I have jumped on and off the Flynn bad wagon several times, but I believe at this point if Philbin nods his head you grab him immediately.... Only he would know what he is talking about in this case, you would only think different if they don't grab him or show interest immediately.
...and for those of you who say Flynn would ask for too much $... He's a QB groomed behind Arod who set huge records on his 2nd start, that automatically puts him above an unknown rookie not named luck, GB had an obvious reason for him to not start for the time he was there, and it had nothing to do with his talent or lack thereof. He is not a punter or something ffs, QBs are an ultra premium now a days, you have to pay for them or don't get one.... and we know what that is like.... It's put up or shut up, where have discount bargain basement QBs got us?
Here. Now. Where we are. Bottomofthebarrel.
I'm also fairly confident he'd love to play for Philbin.
Edit: I will still seriously be hoping for Manning until its over, though. -

As to Flynn, I'm with you. No strong feelings one way or the other. -
Also, no of course not. I was high on Flynn before that one game. -

Hypothetical if Flynn wasn't successful, I wouldn't be as high on him. Still if Manning only had one arm, I would completely against signing him. -
If Clyde Gates had 180 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns in the last game of the season we would have different views on him going into the season as well. -

Jesus.... people are getting caught up in semantics.
The point is a good one. How many opinions were changed because of that game? -
I'd wait it out for Manning if they got a good feeling from him that they are legitimately in the running for his services.
As for Flynn, he makes me nervous purely on his lack of experience & because of the kind of cheddar he'll be looking for ... -
-
The only way I cut from PManning and go for Flynn is if Philbin gives the nod to do so. If Philbin is willing to bet his career on Flynn then I'd be happy to have him. Otherwise wait it out for PManning. There are other options then Flynn if PManning doesn't pan out for us and Flynn is gone by then.
-
Flynn isnt going to sign anywhere until Manning signs. Hes going to get more money by waiting for a desperate team so you go after your first choice and go from there.

Flynn may get "60 million" but that's obviously not guaranteed so lets stop calling it that. In reality he'll get a Kolb-like deal that would not cripple this franchise.

simple fact is you don't fluke into 6 TD passes in 1 game in the NFL that tells me hes NFL starter caliber now is he elite probably not but you never know till he gets his shot.
-
Wait b/c Flynn is probably Kolb 2.0. Battling The Bills for 3rd place is getting old.

or he could be Aaron Rodger 2.0 Only Philbin knows and if we make a move for him, it means Philbin thinks hes a legit upgrade over anything we have and I am fine with that. We have to give the coach a chance. We hired him because he had a good plan lets see what he has..
