These are the current playoff standings with tiebreakers accounted for. I will update every week.
Here's a few notes to help translate the information.
Trophy Case - Each team has a trophy case. A team earns a trophy by defeating a team that is currently in the AFC playoff hunt. If you beat them twice, you get two trophies. If that team falls out of playoff contention, you lose those trophies. The purpose of the trophies is to show two things. First, it makes it easy to determine head-to-head tiebreakers. Secondly, it shows strength of victory within the conference.
Trophy Games - A game between two AFC playoff contenders. The winner will receive an icon representing the opposing team in their trophy case.
Playoff prediction meter - This is the red-yellow-green colored meter next to the team's overall record. The level of the meter represents my confidence that team will earn a playoff berth.

I could see Baltimore falling off the face of the Earth. One (if not both) wildcard spot will come from the AFC East.
-
I'm terrified of indy as a contender. They could still win all of their remaining games. They have beat the Pats and Steelers in back to back weeks, and are finding ways to win.
My guess of how things shake down in the end.
1. Titans
2. Steelers
3. Patriots
4. Broncos
5. Colts
6. Jets/Dolphins -
Dont be so sure about the Ravens, they have the defense to keep them in the hunt.
That ravens game could really end up hurting us. Good thing we got the W over the Broncos and Bolts. We also need to finish up our division strong, at least 2-1 with a win over the jets preferably (unless they lock up the division).
We got huge breaks in playing both San Fran and Seattle at home. Those coast to coast trips are nightmares. We took care of business against Seattle, barely, and need to win against SF.
Out of our 7 remaining games, Id say we can lose no mroe than 3, preferably 2 or less. -
Baltimore's schedule is just a murderer's row.
I don't see how they come out of it with less than 2 losses.
Even Indy has potential toughies against Jax, houston, etc. We just need to take care of our own business -
The Bills will break another record, the first team to start 4-0 and not make the playoffs.
Congrats guys, you've had a great season thus far.Vengeful Odin likes this. -
yea the ravens get to play the NFC East. that certainly helps. It stinks that the other wildcard teams have the tiebreakers against us, but it can all change real quickly
after all, if the jets win and we beat NE, that puts the pats at 3rd in the division and behind both of us in the playoff race. how awesome would THAT be -
-
Scenario over next two weeks:
Jets: lose @ Pats, lose @ Titans
Pats: win vs Jets, lose @ Dolphins
Phins: win vs Raiders, win vs Pats
Outcome:
Miami 7-4
New England 7-4
New York 6-5
Miami in 1st place.His'nBeatYour'n likes this. -
Indy: 4-2
Miami: 4-3 -
you're right gish. i was just thinking about the next two weeks at the time. i have my own predictions (more like, what needs to happen's) in order for us to win the division, and it involves the pats winning tomorrow. in my thing we end up tied at 10-6 with the pats but win the tiebreaker, with the jets and bills at 9-7

EDIT: i went back and put **'s next to games that are stretches. i put them next to both week 17 games just because those are both gonna be really important and you can't really predict them (not that i could really predict the others either.. but, you know)
EDIT 2: I updated for the pats jets game and re-assessed some things that would have to happen for us to win the division. -
you're right though, a 6-3 start it'd be hard to be 9-7. but you know, the other year we were sitting there at 3-7 and won six in a row to finish 9-7. so they could certainly lose 4 of 7 -
this is also assuming we lose to SF. i put that in because although we could certainly beat all these low-win teams, i just don't see it happening. so i was trying to come up with a way for us to win without sweeping those games. its not all flawless predictions, some of it is just what needs to happen for such a scenario to work
-
hey gish, if you don't mind, I don't really want to start another new thread for my dumb predictions i have in here, so I was hoping I could just edit these each week since i know you'll be editing your stuff too to keep up with the games..
If you feel like its hijacking your thread let me know and I'll do it somewhere else  -

updated. take that aqua!!! :D

great thread!
sorry for the ignorance, but whats this 'trophy case'? -
teams they've beat, I think.

What in the world is up with DB's this year? Do they all have Deion Sanders syndrome? Michael Griffin just had a free sack on Garrard and does a hop step prior to tackling him so he completely misses. Mike Jenkins earlier this year doesn't tackle at the goal line. Mike Mickens of Cincinnati runs away from the ball carriers. The Broncos run away from ball carriers.
Sorry, had to say it somewhere.
Anyone else watching this game? -
in that case, so even Miami having the so said "easier schedule", we're the team whose have beaten the most AFC contenders -
-
I think if we can close out our division we can take the title. Shockingly, even a first round bye is a possibility. We have a great schedule here and must take advantage of it. Of the 7-4s Baltimore and Buffalo will have the toughest go of it.
Losses by JVille and San Diego today were huge. To bad Indy squeeked by Houston via their usual 4th quarter collapse. Bottom line, if we take care of business in the division and especially against Pats and Jets we are in very good shape.anlgp likes this. -
I would have much rather had San Diego win against Pittsburgh today so that the AFC North winner goes down in the standings. Remember Baltimore had a great shot at taking the division. Jacksonville's loss basically eliminates them.
-
updated. San Diego and Jacksonville eliminated from hunt. 6+ losses = not a contender.
-
Just think; if we had beaten the Jets in week 1, we'd have the 2 seed right now.
Damn. -
I'm almost afraid to say it, but with 6 games remaining, the Dolphins have already met their expectations for the entire season. It's all bonus from here on out. 7-4? Tickle me elmo!!!! 6-5? Who wouldn't have killed for a shot at 6-5 when we were 2-4 after week 7?
Good times for Dolfans. -
the way i see it, we need to win the 3 'easy' game (st. louis, SF and KC). that puts us at 9-4. from there, winning 2 of the 3 with Buff NE and NYJ would put us to 11-5 and shoe in to the playoffs, but even winning 1 of the 3 (say, against the jets) would put us at 10-6 and give us a pretty good shot at WC depending on how the cards fall. so we'll see. this week is huge for the season. a win here would be tremendous. -

If we could cap a W against NE at home with a packed house it would be huge for us.
4 out of our remaining 5 are away games. The one home game we have left after NE is against SF. If we can show them a packed stadium and they can show us a victory it would send them on what is basically a 5 week road trip (the SF game is in the middle) with some confidence. -
I hope that Texans game doesnt come back to haunt us...
