Al Saunders, HC/OC?

FinSaneforum_veteranOPHow about Saunders? I know he's not a "name", but his offenses have always produced everywhere he goes. Of course, he's a Vermeil disciple, but alot of people say that Saunders had more to do with the Rams and Chief's offensive success than Vermeil did. Maybe not HC, if we get Sparano or whoever, but maybe take a look at him for the OC job?

Hmm...I guess Vermeil, Bellicheck, Gruden, Cowher(no SB appearance for 10 years) and all the others shouldn't have ever been considered by their respective team either after their past failures.

I don't understand this comment. Bill Cowher and Jon Gruden were two of the youngest head coaching hires in NFL history. Dick Vermeil had been wildly successful as head coach at UCLA, was hired by the Eagles, took that perennial bottom-feeder to the Super Bowl, then burned himself out and retired, then decided to come back. Belichick was defensive coordinator for two Super Bowl champs (NYG), was head coach of the Browns and actually achieved an 11-5 record the year before he was fired, then went on to be defensive coordinator for a Patriots team that lost in the Super Bowl, and a Jets team that made it to the AFC championship. Where is the record of failure for any of the coaches you mentioned? None of them were sitting around for 20-years stewing in failure, like Saunders has been, before making good on their promise
Al Saunders has already been a head coach in the NFL. 2 1/2 seasons as head coach of the Chargers in the eighties. To label his tenure a failure is understatement. He's interviewed for many other head coaching jobs since, and has never been offered another. Saunders is being paid nearly as much in Washington to be an OC as some head coaches are being paid. Why would he make a lateral move unless he was fired?

how old were these guys when they got their first HC jobs?
now compare that to Saunders age

saunders cant leave washington unless someone makes him HC...
