God I hate the Welker crap. Seriously, does ANYBODY know what happened with him? We were really supposed to pay premium money for a #3 WR? Would having Welker atm won us games? Is Welker more valuable to the franchise atm than the guy we got for him, our starting C Sam Satele? Really?

Cant argue with Porter, but Green was defensible. And the Quinn thing is getting old as well. Not like the rest of the league was burning down doors to get him. Talk about a total media fabrication. If Gregg Easterbrook (who I normally like) mentions this one more time .....

 

New England gave us a poison pill. Keeping Welker would have resulted in A LOT of guaranteed money because they had a clause where if Welker played more than 4 games in Miami, then they would give him such and such amount.

Porter has been playing pretty well as of late and it's way too soon for them to be comparing the Quinn/Ginn and Beck argument right now because Quinn hasn't even taken a snap yet! It amazes me how truly stupid and clueless some of these writers are at the big sites such as SI and ESPN.

 

The problem with Welker is that he's having a great year and the Phins are in the toilet. Welker is a household name now because of all the press he's getting with the Pats. Satele is hardly known outside of Dolphins fans and some rival fans. As I said in another thread, it appears as though you guys got fleeced.

Mueller really is garbage too. I'm not sure why it so hard to see. Trent Green? Come on man...it's pretty obvious to everyone in the league that the Phins have had a gushing wound at the QB position ever since Marino retired. Trent green was and is no kind of answer for this franchise. The jury is still out on Beck, but Cameron might have ruined the guy by starting him so soon and on a team thats about as bad as it can get. That's no way to build a guys confidence, in fact, it's exactly how you shatter it.

As far a Quinn goes, take the reaction of your own teams players if you have any doubt about what kind of move that was. Taylor spoke out against it almost right away. His gut reaction was the same as everyone else's: What the hell are they thinking? Quinn hasn't played yet but for good reason, the guy ahead of him is tearing it up and his team is playoff bound. Someone will come calling for Quinn if the Browns decide to stick with Anderson. They're in a win win situation. Ginn is contributing now but he's not a difference maker. He's an average receiver on a really bad team. The potential upside of Quinn far outweighs the upside of Ginn no matter how you try to spin it.

Sorry, my post was being sarcastic. Perhaps that didnt come across clearly. But yes your last sentence about writers is rather accurate, but then they are only in it for rating and such these days, accuracy and accountability be damned.

 

The Welker deal is getting old also. If he was still with us, he would have mediocre stats. He greatly benefits from a top notch QB, and great WR threats around him to allow him to get easier coverages.

 

Had we tendered Welker at #1 value, the odds are pretty high that NE wouldn't have signed him. A #2 and a #7 was more than enough for Wes.

 

What team are you watching? That article hit the nail right on the head.

1. Welker: We could have, should have signed him to a higher tender or re-signed him before he became a RFA

2. Porter: Although he has been playing better lately, he is no where near the cash we gave him. He's a slightly above mediocre player who has done nothing but run his mouth. Pittsburgh knew it, now we do too.

3. Green: We basically gave away a draft pick. We are seeing first hand what happens when you don't replenish your roster with young developable talent. Think a 5th rounder was no big deal??? Remember Zach was a fith rounder.

4. Quinn/Ginn. QB was our most pressing need and we passed on a blue chip prospect. Like it or not, Ginn was a reach as shows no signs of becoming anything more than a 2nd WR and a role player. That is acceptable at number 29, but not at number 9. Alos, Beck has looked simply awful even for a rookie. Deer in the head light is exactly what he's looked like. Please use your excuse elsewhere!

 

Mueller hasn't done a good job. But he hasn't done a bad job either.

He put together a team that could win some games. The team has been able to get up on the scoreboard. But, when it comes time to close, we have Cam Cameron on the sidelines.

 

You think Wes brings more value to the team than Samson? A starting C is better than a starting slot WR? Really? I have to question which team you're watching.

Green was brought in to be more than the starting QB. You need a Green to install a new offense. I think he is on the team next year as a coach.

Ginn consistatly gets behind the defense and catches well. He has speed, quickness, and is showing himself to be a great route runner. I don't get what you are seeing. He is the only receiver that is any sort of threat on the team. All this as a rookie after coming out after his junior year. The future looks great for Ginn. All he needs is a QB that can get him the ball deep. Hopefully Beck will become that man.

 

This SI piece wreaks of Peter King.

This is the same guy that put out a column a few weeks ago about what a mistake Miami made by letting Welker go. It was painfully obvious in that piece, that King did not do his homework and just did a shallow analysis of the situation.

I'm seeing a lot of the same tendencies on this piece.

 

Welker for a Center for the next 10 yrs? Are you kidding? With Hadnot desiring to test the FA waters, the pick looks even better, this is how you stay out of Salary Cap purgatory.

Porter? Not much to argue about there, he does seem to have picked up his play, but not for that much $$$$.

Green? He was worth the risk, we were our most competitive this year with him at QB, that knee to the side of the head would have concussed anyone.

Quinn has played how much this season? I can understand projection, but come on.

Apparently you didn't notice the 50yd bomb that Ginn caught Sunday, or that Ginn in comparison to Calvin Johnson is no contest, for us Ginn is much more valuable, Ginn has 15yd per catch avg, and over 1,500 total yds for us.

Why is Calvin Johnson a sure thing and Ted Ginn a "role player"?

 

If we keep Welker, we could have drafted Quinn and Satele too. I'd rather have those three than the Ginn/Beck/And Satele. True Quinn hasn't played a sanp, but look who he's behind. Beck has shown his ceiling IMO and it's no better than Kyle Boller and Rex Grossman. Wish and hope all you want, but if you really watch those 3 QB's, you'll notice the gut wrenching similarities. Not good at all. Now maybe Quinn is a bust too. Maybe I'm doing a grass is greener scenerio. However, my thinking in this case is based upon us keeping Welker and giving a "push" at worse to Beck/Quinn.
