Sure he is a good running back but not a great one and with all the money committed to Tannehill and Suh we simply can't afford to pay him. I think Ajayi can put up similar if not better numbers if given the opportunity. Any money we can spend in free agency should be spent on the offense line with the majority of our draft picks devoted to rebuilding one of the worst defenses in the league. It will take several years to turn this thing around so there's no use wasting money on players like Miller now

On a team almost devoid of real talent (outside of Tannehill, Suh, R Jones, Landry) I wouldn't be turning away someone who's a potential top 5-10 talent at his position.

I don't think it matters anymore. If we keep him we overpay than hardly use him.Why run when got an elite QB leading the way?

I love Miller but rbs are a dime a dozen, if we continue to be pass happy he is expendable
-
Yes, probably you are.

Who would you consider to be the best RBs in the league going forward?
Jamaal Charles
Todd Gurley
LeVeon Bell
Adrian Peterson
Doug Martin
Lesean McCoy
Lamar Miller
Give or take a couple guys? I mean he's borderline elite right now and 24 years old.
I also think that expecting Ajayi to match Lamar is asking a lot. I like Ajayi, but Lamar is fantastic.Shane Falco and Finster like this. -

I find it interesting the OL gets the blame for Tannehill having issues, but that same argument is not made for Miller. Imagine what he could do with a real OL

Depends on his cost.

Unless it's for a reasonable price then no, I'm with you. I'd offer him roughly 7 mil a year. That's a big pay bump. If he doesn't take it I'd let him walk.

He sets up blocks, has game breaking speed, has a lot of yards after contact, and has improved his pass catching. -
Well, we may have one thing to thank this current coaching staff. Their insane underusage of Miller may lower his cost if he resigns with us.
-
We only get a break if Lamar wants to stay in Miami. I would be surprised otherwise. -
Based on the lack of quality RB's the Dolphins have had over the last quarter century. I think assuming Miller can easily be replaced is a huge mistake. We have no idea if the next head coach will be more run oriented than Philbin and Campbell have been. So I would love for Miller to remain with the Dolphins beyond this year.
I just don't think he wants to stay in Miami and he will get a very big raise to sign elsewhere. To me Ajayi is still a huge question mark going forward. I prefer having both Miller and Ajayi, but I truly believe Miller will be on another team in 2016.dolphin25 likes this. -
The big-play ability that Lamar Miller has flashed over the last 2 seasons makes me think he’s poised to step up to the next level. The questions with him weren’t about physical ability. They were about being a complete RB, reliable enough to carry a full workload.
Can he stay healthy?
Can he produce yards after contact?
Can he convert 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] and short?
Can he pick up blitzes?
Can he be the receiving threat that a RB needs to be if he wants to get paid?
Well, the answer to all of those questions over the last year seems to be a resounding yes. The reliability has been there over the last couple seasons. The yards-after-contact is very good. The receiving ability is much improved. I think that as an organization Miami can feel confident handing Miller a solid paycheck and asking him to be a bigger part of the offense.
With that said, I believe the discussions about Miller inside the organization will revolve not so much around Miller’s legitimacy as a feature RB as his value relative to an equally-skilled WR in Rishard Matthews.
This is something Miami really needs to think about carefully because losing Matthews is just as disappointing as losing Miller. In reality, they both represent young, athletic, home-grown talent in the prime of their careers. These are not the types you want floating away in free agency.
Releasing Rishard Matthews would IMO mean releasing the biggest WR asset Miami has. Can you trust Devante Parker to be as reliable as Matthews has been? Are you willing to part with a WR that has the toughness, the size and the speed of Rishard Matthews? Do you want to go on featuring Jarvis Landry as you have been given what appear to be the limitations of that strategy?
This issue will be key to Miami’s offseason because losing either player is bad. The team may need to get creative in finding a way to free up money. There are sizeable contracts on the roster that could potentially be jettisoned: Wake, Grimes, Cameron, Pouncey. In my mind, Miller and Matthews are both much more valuable than any of those 4.
I think how this team handles Miller, Matthews, Vernon and Shelby all hitting free agency together will be big. There really is no right or wrong here. It’s all about getting the pieces you feel like you need in order to build the team you want. If Miami wants to ride this offense to the Play-offs it’s hard to justify letting either Millers or Matthews walk. If on the other hand Miami wants to solidify the defense and balance out the roster, they might place Vernon (and Shelby for that matter) above Miller and Matthews. -
Get a half conscious OC and he's a top 5 RB, and he's young.
Keep him at all costs. -
Depends what type of running game we run next year. If we run a power running attack in not sure he's going to be as effective . If we continue to run a similar offense I would resign him. He's ideal for that type
-
"at all costs" Seems awfully crazy considering how easy it is to find talented running backs. Is Lamar Miller good? Yea I think he is pretty damn good. Would I unload a ton of money for a running back. Not unless its an rare talent. -
Lamar Miller is the best back in football that nobody knows about, and you can thank our current regime for that.
But......really depends on what he tries to get per year. Granted we will be in better cap shape after this years dead weight is cut, but for christ sake we need some depth on this football team -

He's young and trending upward, he's improved in the passing game and getting tough yards after contact. He is a guy we need to keep. If we just let him walk how long would it take for New England or Indy to pounce on him and make us contending even that much harder?

Dallas will pay him, JJ tried to trade for him earlier this year.
Here's the real problem. People are confusing an average-to-good talent with an elite talent.
Miller is good RB but hes NOT an elite talent. But with Rosenhaus, he'll get paid like one.
