I'm not, might take a while for Ireland to find work back in a front office, no one really likes him.
RT @McClain_on_NFL: Texans hired Brian Gaine as director of pro scouting.
Seeing as how badly the hiring process played out, would you have rather hired Gaine and let his fate be tied to Philbin in a playoffs or bust season or are you content with Hickey?

Don't really think it matters what I might prefer, Steven Ross has made that decision for me. At this point, I'm happy for Gaine and ready to move on....what happens with Hickey is yet to be determined. When/if the time comes, I'll complain about that... -
I would have much rather Gaine been the hire over Hickey. As much as I was all about wiping away all remnants of Ireland, I'd rather keep a young guy like Gaine than someone like Hickey whose own team didn't interview him for their GM vacancy. It would also be much easier to cut ties with someone like Gaine if 2014 goes poorly. Hickey is likely to get at least 2 years and if Philbin ends up getting canned after 2014 here we go again with forcing lame duck candidates on the applicant pool.

I think Chicago might need a ball boy, that fits Ireland's qualifications best.

I think I heard someone say he wanted to start his own consultancy business. He managed to convince Ross he was worth losing Harbaugh so he may convince others to hire his services.

No? How often do you see GMs get second chances or get hired again right away?
I'm not sure what the point of this is. He's gone and fired, and the "worst GM EVER" act just makes you look like you have no idea what you're talking about.Ohio Fanatic, MrClean, GMJohnson and 1 other person like this. -

Why would anyone be surprised Gaine got a job before Ireland? Seriously...ToddPhin, MrClean and MikeHoncho like this. -
I would have preferred Gaine for the same reason Blitz stated. The Hickey hire is already a media disaster, and I would not be surprised if he becomes the center of controversy for this organization over the next two years.

I think the problem with Ireland is that he's an *******. He does have some skill judging talent on the defensive side of the ball but he sucks on offense.

Gaine is good at his job, it is not surprise he was hired quickly.
However, a .500 record, more or less, should never be supported, Gaine was not the problem, when one pulls out the broom then sweep with it. -
Rod Graves and Tom Heckert were fired then found work months later after the draft, we'll see if anyone hires Ireland this offseason, I doubt it. -
Well this is where Ireland's long running show of being an abrasive a--hat who thought he was smarter than any other GM will pay off for him. There's an old saying about flies, honey and vinegar that 10 year old Jeffy should have listened to when Mrs Ireland was talking.

But I suspect that Parcells will make a call or two on Jeffy's behalf and he'll be hired as a scout sometime after the draft, if only to make good on a chit from Parcells.

Ireland is still getting paid. He does not need to look for work. He may never be a GM for all we know but he's not out looking while Ross is still paying.

Ireland will get another front office job. Just not this year. He's making GM money without the responsibility. Probably could use a vacation after 5 seasons in Miami. -
Joking aside and just making an assumption, I would assume Jeff takes time off from football, he has had a bigger challenge than football his whole life raising his twin daughters. My guess is he focuses on family more and then he tests to see if he has a market for himself out there. When you're a GM you are a full time employee, meaning his family has to live in South Florida. I doubt he is willing to take on any challenge and uproot his family considering the circumstances, it would have to be the perfect situation. So he has a year to figure out where he will get a salary from.
