Consumer Reports isn't that great when it comes to cars. Their typical review goes as such: "Attractive exterior styling. Luxury features available standard at a low price. Engine is powerful and does not hog fuel. Well-designed interior, GPS standard. But the side-view mirrors are an inch too wide and therefore we cannot recommend this piece of garbage."

Automobile Magazine reviewed and was impressed with the Acadia, but they had one or two holdout staffers who expected sports car performance and came away disappointed. Everyone else with realistic expectations said it was great.

i never go by them.... honestly i think most of the time they don't even actually see the car in person or drive it, but rather read the car magazine reviews or look at pictures.

 

I made the mistake of buying their 2009 model preview issue. Never again. An automaker could take a specific model and improve absolutely everything about it--performance, fuel economy, design, reduced price--and CR would say "Much improved, 3/5, not recommended." It never changes. They reserve praise only for the makes and models they recommended the year before.

 

That sucks. Sorry to hear that the jeep we had was a tank nothing could hurt that thing. Well I guess tthey make some good and some bad.

 

I bought a new Chevy pickup Z71 Silverado 4X4 fully loaded, and had problems with it, way more than what should have gone wrong with it. I realize you are talking about a GMC, but Chevy is the sister company.Right after I bought it, it started getting a popping in the front end, in and out of the shop between 6 and 10 times. Way to many problems for as young as the truck was. On top of that, it lost second gear in the transmission, and the final straw was when the weather was bad, I put the truck into 4 high, the front right wheel locked into 4 low, at about 65 MPH, and slung the truck into a ditch, causing it to damn near roll. This is coming from a guy that has faithfully owned GM products since I was old enough to drive. I would think twice before driving another GM product, thats why I'm going with the Ford F-250.

 

If youre trying to avoid having problems with your car just get a toyota or a honda. Ive had my Camry for 3 years now and all that ever happens to it's standard warranty work. Boring yeah, maybe. But its low maintenance and like 98% of the world, I have neither the time or patience, especially not patience, to be running around fixing a new car. You shouldnt have to worry about a new car if these places would just built the thing right in the first place.

I made mine a little more fun because it was a little too boring for me initially. I took advantage of the available sunroof for a couple hundred, and installed an I-trip for my Ipod, not the corny little attachment, but the actual wiring so its my ipod, my song selection. Youre going to invest 20k in something you might as well have some fun with it right? :)

 

It's the same company, just a different logo on the front. Both are General Motors.

Anyway, there isn't too much to say about comparing the Acadia to the Silverado. They aren't the same platform. The Acadia is built on the same base platform as the Buick Enclave and Saturn Outlook, but even then the three are somewhat different from each other.

You're always going to be lowballed on trade in offers. You can get more selling it yourself, but then you have to ask yourself if the difference in price is worth the time and effort.

 

Billy, like Desides said they are are going to low ball you. Car dealers make more on used cars then new ones. See how long the deal would be good for, and see if you can sell it yourself.:wink2:

 

You can check auto trader or Yahoo Classifieds and see what cars like yours are going for, and make your decision.

 

also I would sell the old car first so you dont get stuck with 2 car payments if you decide against the trade in route.

 

sounds like your friend is just trying to make some sales dude. there is NO deal he can give you that will help you recoup your initial investment in the jeep.

i love the acadia (probably more than the jeep), but not enough to eat that depreciation you just endured driving it off the lot. and no, even if your "friend" gives you fair trade-in value AND sells the acadia at invoice (which i doubt he does), you're still not going to get your $$ back on that deal. i'd say just leave it, your jeep is under warranty. sucks you had two issues, but that doesn't mean you'll always have issues.

if, after 2 years of ownership, you're still having a ton of issues, take him up on his offer at that point, and on a certified pre-owned acadia for less than new. :up:
