Ex Pat Richard Seymour is not feeling the land of sunshine and Depends Undergarments, could we make a play for him?
Say Merling and a 2nd round pick?

A 2nd round pick next year in a good draft, an up and coming DE for a declining player who wants big money? no thank you. I'd rather keep Merling and the pick.

Heck, I'd throw in Pat Turner as well. -
A second round pick by itself might do it given that he wont want to go back to NE after this.... Given how this FO has been able to draft in the short time they have been here though I am loath to give up picks, especially since it would be for a guy wanting a monster contract.

I'd say no...but only because I think he might be had for less.
The Raiders, once again, have wrestled the title of most embarrassing franchise away from the Detroit Lions.like2god, SCall13, HardKoreXXX and 2 others like this. -

It'd be nice but he's going to get a MAJOR contract next season. That's the only reason the pats got rid of him.

Not that Davis needed any help to be a complete waste of oxygen.late again likes this. -
Only way it would happen is if he signs a 4 or 5 year contract with us. There is no way that we should give up a 2nd and player for a guy that is only going to be here one year and then head to the biggest contract next year. I'm sure Washington will throw millions and millions at him, seems like they do that every year.
-
Are we sure that Seymour to the Raiders wasnt conditional on Seymour agreeing to a new contract? Or would the Raiders risk him bolting next year?

that would be a super bowl investment
not there yet & by the time we are, we might already be there w/o the big investment
however
Wilford would be a good thing -

I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up here next year because he is going to hold a huge grudge against the Patriots and Belichick. From what I've heard on sports radio up here is that there was a little screw you message in this trade from Belichick.

To quote Nancy Regan-"Just say no"to Seymore.

No offense intended at all Padre, but where's the -Star button???? -
:wink2:
Apparently Seymour thought he had a long term deal worked out in NE, instead they shipped him to Oakland, if the Raiders don't step up with a contract he may just cool his heels this season. -
No Way. Merling will be a stud. Remember the Jets game to win the division? He's a keeper and young.

If he were an OLB or a DT, I'd make the deal for even more, but a DE ?? Arguably a strong point on this squad ?? It looks like McDaniels is quite a find by this regime, Merling is developing still, Langford has cemented his position and Starks is a solid and reliable player as well, not to mention Dotson....No, I don't think so...now, if someone wants to ship us a disgruntled #1 WR, that might be worth looking into...

Seymore could conceivably work out for the Dolphins,
all depends on the deal
would have to be a deal you just couldn't refuse  -
Now if Seymour were to hit FA, I wouldn't mind kicking the tires to see what he is looking for, but we shouldn't give the Pats even more ammo to control the draft and better themselves.the 23rd likes this. -
makes perfect sense to me

Padre and I have been posting together for a good many years, and if he doesn't like a little good natured ribbing from me, he is a big boy and can tell me himself. He doesn't, really, need your help. Thanks.

Seems we got varying reports then Padre. Guess we will have to wait and see which one is true. I think TSN gets their team info from a local beat writer, whether that is a better or source or not than Clayton is debatable I guess.
Either way, with all due respect, I think anyone who thinks Seymour will end up in Miami is whistling in the wind. DE is perhaps our strongest, deepest position already and I'd expect any big signings or trades to address a position of more need, whichever one that may be. Just don't look for it to be DE though. -
You have to give it to New England and BB with a first rounder,
3-second rounders,a third rounder and working on getting another first round pick going into a very strong draft class. It's going to be scary to see how they manipulate next years draft with all these picks. -
We all talk how they always rule the draft, but what recent success do they have to show for it?
-
The way Asante Samuel left and others like him, then this happening, IMHO only weakens the organization in the eyes of other potential free agents. Veterans like to feel wanted and special when the sign somewhere. I think the veterans of the patsies don't feel very wanted or special.
-
I guess my point is that you can have all the picks you want, but it's worthless if you don't get good players.
