So says PFT. I think he's right based on what I have compiled myself. But assuredly he has better access to the salaries than a mere mortal like me. He also says the Jets have $9.4m and Pats $9.2m. FWIW.

Ireland, do the right think and extend Wake/Langford/Soliai shortly. Thank you.

Extending those guys would give us even more cap space, at least in the short term.
Unfortunately Bungles still about $24 million under, which means no pressure to do something with Palmer  -
extending those guys would actually create more cap room...lower it somemore...
Soliai is the highest priority, Wilfork tagged this offseason, signed a longterm deal, Ngata tagged this offseason, signed a longterm deal....
QB, and NT are 2 positions you lock up and dont let go....ToddsPhins, Boik14 and Bpk like this. -
extending soliai would mean more money i agree, but how can extending wake, langford give us more cap space, they basically play on rookie deals ?

Cut Benny Sapp
Resign Langford to a long term deal
Let Soliai's franchise tag play out this year
idk about Wake
tbh, I think Langford is the only safe bet to restructure to a long term deal. He's been the most consistent and has been solid for more than a couple years. Soliai had 1 great year (last year) and Wake has had 1 great year of starting (09, he was good when he was on the field though). But, I'm kinda scared if we give Soliai and Wake long term deals, they may plateau or even drop off production wise and we will be overspending. I'm almost for letting both of them play this year without a contract, so we know what we have in them before they get paid.
Although, I love both of them. -

I'm fine with extending Soliai. But I'm not sure I would do the same for Wake. At least not right now.
But to be honest, I'm not sure we can decide whether someone should be extended or not. We don't really know how much these guys are asking for. -
Even if their level of play plateau's or dips a little, you still need to field a team and your alternatives are overpay a FA, hope you strike it gold with 7 of your 7 draft picks, or just field a team of UDFA's. You have to sign your own players with the understanding that their play is potentially going to drop off a little. Even with that, you won't find a Cam Wake (elite pass rusher) or Soliai (Big body NT) as easily as you may think. As someone said earlier, if you get a QB, pass rusher, or NT (for a 3-4 team), you make sure to hang on to them.
I would say pass rushers tend to fall off quicker than the other 2 positions but I think this FO has seen enough in Wake to know this guy will be an elite rusher for the next few years at minimum. Hell, even national media outlets see that and that's saying something (yes I'm talking to you ESPN). -
There's a conflicting $4.9 million number. Weird discrepancy.
Extending Soliai could open up even more money.
FWIW that dude on Finheaven that's been claiming to know Jeff Ireland is STILL banging the Carson Palmer drum.Ozzy and schmolioot like this. -
Soliai... i'd go longer, 6 years $54m with about $30 guaranteed.
Langford... 5 years, $40m about $23m guaranteed.
And yes I do think we can get all three contracts under the cap if we're $9.6m under, especially if you cut Will Allen. You've got Soliai's franchise tag eating up $12.3? right now. You can chop that in half. You'd likely need to get in the $15 to $17m range in space to sign all three big guys. -
The main reason I'm giving the guy credibility is the Devlin thing. Also Rick Reilly wrote an article today about how the Bengals should let Palmer go. Odd that he would write it now since nobody has talked about that situation in weeks. I imagine Carson's representation leaked him some quotes to get the situation into the public eye again and put some pressure on BengalsOhio Fanatic likes this. -

He says Randy Starks and a high 2012 pick for Carson Palmer. I hope to God he doesn't mean the 2012 1st rounder. -
-
-
then we'd still have our first rounder to either address the line, safety whatever, or if eveything just bombs, could still do something with a QB
Is the guy saying this offer is on the table, being considered, what? -

Sometimes there's only so much a guy can take. He's raising kids and he's had people breaking onto his property to deface it because he threw an interception too many or some such. He wants out.
Hell if I would know why he'd want to come here though. -
CK are you kidding? If we fix that OL it would be ideal for him to play here. The passing options are pretty impressive.
-
Potentially we could be paying the highest paid LT, NT, OLB, and DE. One of the top-5 highest paid WRs. One of the highest paid ILBs. And this is before we've even discussed re-signing Davis and Smith, who won't be cheap if they keep up their progression.
On top of all that we will almost certainly end up paying for a QB one way or another next year. So really, I think the FO needs to be careful before they start guaranteeing a lot of money to guys. -
Wouldn't it be funny if the "negotiations" are really like this:
Jeff Ireland: "Ok, this is my final offer...Randy Starks and next year's 2nd round pick for Carson."
Mike Brown: "For the last ****ing time, Jeff. CARSON PALMER IS NOT FOR SALE! That ginger **** can rot in hell, and so can you."
Jeff Ireland: "You're breakin my balls, Mike. How about we toss in Tyrone Culver?"
Mike Brown: (click)
(Ireland dials phone)
enduro: "Moshi moshi?"
Jeff Ireland: "Yo! Whassaaaaaaaaaa!"
enduro: "Nada dude, you get that fruit basket I sent ya?"
Jeff Ireland: "Great dates. How's the wife?"
enduro: "Ex-wife. She's a *****."
Jeff Ireland: "Is she a prostitute?"
enduro: "Why do you always ask that? How's the QB search goin?"
Jeff Ireland: "Mike Brown's being a dick, but I've got him right where I want him. It'll be Randy Starks and a high pick next year."
enduro: "Sweet, I'll go tell Finheaven."
Jeff Ireland: "Are any of them prostitutes?"

I don't think well have a clue about that until we get some cohesive play. You would think three powerful guys in incog, pouncey, and Carey should be able to push the pile.

Because it doesn't matter if he knows Irish ( and I severely don't believe he does in the way he says ) because as Mike Lombardi said " do you know Mike Brown? because I do and if he says he's not trading Palmer , he isn't "
That is what I believe. -
Just my opinion but an owner going out of his way to publically say he won't facilitate a trade with a QB who quit on his contract and not trading him via spite is not something i don't want our organization to be a part of. Some thing tells me if you want Palmer your going to have to pay through the nose to get him.

Brown is the owner , GM , and the board of directors , he is stubborn as can be and doesn't have to change anything he doesn't want to... and won't imo.
Palmer doesn't need any more money , he already has generational wealth , and wants to be on the west coast , so counting on some movement this year is ludicrous imo.
Brown stated what he would do , why would anyone not believe him? -
