As of 8/15, Dolphins are $9.6m under the cap

Extending those guys would give us even more cap space, at least in the short term.

Unfortunately Bungles still about $24 million under, which means no pressure to do something with Palmer :sad:

Soliai is the highest priority, Wilfork tagged this offseason, signed a longterm deal, Ngata tagged this offseason, signed a longterm deal....

QB, and NT are 2 positions you lock up and dont let go....

tbh, I think Langford is the only safe bet to restructure to a long term deal. He's been the most consistent and has been solid for more than a couple years. Soliai had 1 great year (last year) and Wake has had 1 great year of starting (09, he was good when he was on the field though). But, I'm kinda scared if we give Soliai and Wake long term deals, they may plateau or even drop off production wise and we will be overspending. I'm almost for letting both of them play this year without a contract, so we know what we have in them before they get paid.

Although, I love both of them.

And I think that might very well happen.....you have to sign Soli, put some workout incentives, weight incentives....letting Langford, and Starks roll around is so nice....soli is the key to the depth, and versatility of that defence..

I'm fine with extending Soliai. But I'm not sure I would do the same for Wake. At least not right now.

But to be honest, I'm not sure we can decide whether someone should be extended or not. We don't really know how much these guys are asking for.

I'm going to say no.

Even if their level of play plateau's or dips a little, you still need to field a team and your alternatives are overpay a FA, hope you strike it gold with 7 of your 7 draft picks, or just field a team of UDFA's. You have to sign your own players with the understanding that their play is potentially going to drop off a little. Even with that, you won't find a Cam Wake (elite pass rusher) or Soliai (Big body NT) as easily as you may think. As someone said earlier, if you get a QB, pass rusher, or NT (for a 3-4 team), you make sure to hang on to them.

I would say pass rushers tend to fall off quicker than the other 2 positions but I think this FO has seen enough in Wake to know this guy will be an elite rusher for the next few years at minimum. Hell, even national media outlets see that and that's saying something (yes I'm talking to you ESPN).

There's a conflicting $4.9 million number. Weird discrepancy.

Extending Soliai could open up even more money.

On Wake, I'd start with what the Raiders paid Wimbley unfortunately. what was it, 6 yrs $60m? I'd try get Wake to go 5 yrs or less due to his age.

Soliai... i'd go longer, 6 years $54m with about $30 guaranteed.

Langford... 5 years, $40m about $23m guaranteed.

And yes I do think we can get all three contracts under the cap if we're $9.6m under, especially if you cut Will Allen. You've got Soliai's franchise tag eating up $12.3? right now. You can chop that in half. You'd likely need to get in the $15 to $17m range in space to sign all three big guys.

The main reason I'm giving the guy credibility is the Devlin thing. Also Rick Reilly wrote an article today about how the Bengals should let Palmer go. Odd that he would write it now since nobody has talked about that situation in weeks. I imagine Carson's representation leaked him some quotes to get the situation into the public eye again and put some pressure on Bengals

Alot of talking on what the real number is. There was a twitter report the other day (from a main beat writer) stating many fans believe were 8 mil under the cap but we are just about maxed out! So who knows.

well that's probably why he hasn't been extended yet, since they supposedly entered negotiations what two weeks ago now? :wink2: But I do think he's worth it. 34 DE's are hard to find, good ones. Just because we are stacked at the position doesn't mean a player of KL's caliber wouldn't get that much on the open market. That talking point is where the agent starts his negotiation.

The guy has not necessarily had the best accuracy so far. Remember, what he originally said was that the Dolphins would trade down and get Devlin because he's the next Tom Brady. Well, Devlin went undrafted.

He says Randy Starks and a high 2012 pick for Carson Palmer. I hope to God he doesn't mean the 2012 1st rounder.

Randy Starks and a second seems fair to me. If you watched the bungles, they are absolutely putrid along the defensive line. I'd throw Henne into the trade if they want too.

Im still 100% behind Henne. But if we did trade for Palmer (which IMO is a mistake, older qb that is willing to quit on his team) i say we have to let Henne go, so a trade involving him makes sense.
