Mike Mayock, who works Dolphins-Bengals on NFL Network, made some interesting comments in a chat with WQAM’s Joe Rose Wednesday: “The Dolphins’ passing game inside is efficient. Their pass game outside is inefficient. Teams are doing a good job with [Mike Wallace] at the line of scrimmage, jamming him. The Brandon Gibson loss is a huge loss.”
He said Ryan Tannehill’s numbers are “eerily” similar to last season, including his 6.8 average yards per attempt, and “you would like to see those numbers improve in year 2.” He suggests pass protection is impeding Tannehill’s growth because “if you get hit enough, your eyes start to come down and you’re not as good as you should be.”
Mayock questioned the Dolphins’ play selection in the second half of the New England game. “Up 14-3, 17-3, you’ve got to keep running the ball,” Mayock said. “You made it too easy for them.”

if we had any half-decent offensive coordinator, he would find a way to utilize Wallace at wideout and slot. when you have a stud wideout, you move him around and find mismatches. heck, i've seen andre johnson, megatron, jordy nelson, and dez bryant lineup inside from time to time. sherman has been beyond terrible in his adjustments.

I haven't given up on him, but he needs to show a lot more over the remainder of the season then he has so far this season. He seemed to have hit a plateau in the last four games and the improvement we saw earlier in the season just hasn't been evident in recent weeks. He needs to be consistent throughout the entire game and not fall apart in the second half as he has done recently. -

Still so many questions and too few answers , how many years does it take before this has changed or there is a change where it matters?

I think Mayock was being kind to Mike Wallace when he said the Dolphins are inefficient on the outside.
If you include both sides, the Dolphins are 79 of 133 for 889 yards with 8 touchdowns and 3 interceptions on the perimeter. They're 76 of 112 for 880 yards with 3 touchdowns and 6 interceptions over the middle.
However, specifically with Mike Wallace the Dolphins are 30 of 63 for 398 yards with 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions.
The problem isn't inside-vs-outside. It's Wallace-vs-everyone else.Dol-Fan Dupree likes this. -

RT definitely has improved but is not a finished product. The finished product will be determined by how he is protected and supported and coached. -
