John Beck has to start next week, I see absolutely no benefit in Cleo Lemon starting. Cleo was too happy to take the easy option today, it looked like he was frightened of failure.
On a side note, Joey Porter played a great game tonight, full of fire and passion. That was the first time he looked like he wanted to be here to me, if he can carry that same intensity (and if he is still allowed to blitz in the same way) into next season I think we'll all be proud to have him in aqua.

Also I agree Beck should play. -
No, he doesn't have to play next week. He wasn't supposed to play this year originally. There's no reason to insert him against Cincinnati.
I can think of a nice reason to want Lemon to start against the Bengals, though: compensatory draft picks in the 2009 draft. -

why? why does he have to start? what is Beck going to show you in the last game that you haven't already seen?
no matter how he might play in the last game, we're going into this offseason with our fingers crossed. If you want the guy to build some confidence, don't play him, let him sit, learn and practice well next preseason -

I don't think it matters that much who plays. The Tuna is likely to bring in who he wants at QB next year, and Lemon and Beck are not gauranteed to even be here next year. :glare: -
Yeah I think we play Beck next week. Its a soft defense and it will be a good barometer of Beck's resiliency to see if he has the mental fortitude to put his last few games behind him. He doesnt need to light it up or even score per se. But what we do need to see is an iota of improvement from him. That and the ability to put bad things behind him

porter has been getting better and better...i agree that beck should play b/c we need to see if we should invest a draft pick into a QB...we prob will anyway but we might have to take one earlier in the draft

Its not about what he shows us, it's about him getting as much experience against an NFL defense as possible. He can take away what he learns and process it in the offseason and hopefully it will contribute to his improvement next year. We are putting him up against a team he has a chance to succeed against, it's not New England.

Beck is better served watching how the offense plays, rather than how the defense plays. -
why, lemon is still being evaluated, lemon could be our QB to give us time to develop a franchise guy, god parcells won and got to the playoffs with quincy carter, lemon is dan marino next to him
-
on a side note i think cam knows his days are done here and thats why hes throwing lemon a bone. hes helping his friend get a contract for next year. if he thought he would be here then he would play beck. it makes no sence to give experience to lemon when beck needs it more and it will help this team. just another example of cam taking care of his people. -
Beck should start i agree with that
and Porter has played great the last couple week and JT was all over the feild today to -
Beck shouldn't start. Period. I don't want him going out on a bad note this season because it's likely if he plays, it won't be pretty. The guys that are out there right now aren't all that great, at least they aren't guys I want to surround Beck with. The fact is, we need to bring in another WR and a few new lineman, preferrably a T and G to replace Liewienski and Shelton. I know experience is important, but it isn't if your quarterback is going to be getting sacked most of the time. The offense isn't ready for Beck and I'm not one to rush into that. With that said, I doubt we see Beck until next year.

There's no risk in playing Beck. Win or lose, the season's over. If he suffers an injury, there's always Lemon and if it's serious they can just cut him and draft another QB.

But if Beck starts he can be protected by the awesome pass blocking of Justin Peele.. does this guy piss any one else off in how many times he has absolutely wiffed on pass protection? Does anybody know if Beck can throw NFL passes? Does he have the accuracy to throw slants and crossing routes? Does he have the arm strength to throw the outs? Does he have the touch to hit a receiver on his back shoulder with a defender in good position? I would love to find out, but this offensive line stinks and without pass blocking he is hard to evaluate in game situations. Let dumbo Lemon stink up his last game as a Fin.

Beck never should of have played. You rarely play rookie QB's, but you especially don't play em when you go no talent around them.

If Beck doesnt start..then we need to find someone else who will Sunday..because I never want to see Lemon take a snap as a Phin again.

I would rather have Jay Fiedler...Ray Lukas...and Joey Harrington alternate every series for the entire game than have Cleo Lemon take on more snap on my team.

I'd say give'em each a half to play, Lemon in the 1st then Beck in the 2nd.

can someone explain to me why we would get a compensary pick if cleo plays but not if he dosnt play? Im unfamiliar with the rule.

a 27 year old quarterback who hasn't won 1 nfl game ...i'm thinking about trying out for the fins next year. if that's our future

Beck should see some time next week. I can't imagine how it could hurt him. A big reason for drafting him was his maturity. Let's see it in action. Cam should be spending the week designing plays for Beck, Ginn and Booker as they are the only locks on offense for next year IMO. Start building a repoire now. The 3 of them should be camped out of the stadium starting 1/2/08 building chemistry.
