I think the conflict is media fabrication/hype, but I'm fairly certain that 1. BB hates the Jets and would never work for them 2. As our new Parcells, he'd fire Gase and hire his own coach. 3. None of these scenarios matter anyway.

 

The rift between them is very real, but Belichick isn't going anywhere. I doubt at this point in his career he wants to rebuild a team. His system is firmly in place in NE and it works very well, so he will most likely just swallow his pride and roll with Brady for a few more years.

 

To implement his cheating ways with a new organization at this stage of the game is unlikely. His illegal edge is firmly planted at Gillette stadium I'm sure and to bring his "system" elsewhere probably wouldnt be an easy task. Also, I doubt he would be comfortable fielding questions as to why his success as a HC was left in N.E. should he falter somewhere else, which is highly possible given the reasons I mentioned.

 

I'm curious if his decision to keep Butler from playing will cause a bigger backlash than people realize.

We all see how Brady reacts to losing, and I'm sure there are a few others on the team with that same mentality. Will there be a mutiny?

Did Belichick leave Butler out to prove the point that the "report" pointed out? The one where he thinks he's the reason for their success and not Brady? Did he prove that Brady can't win on his own? If Kraft really loves Brady and kind of tolerates BB, like the report stated, will Kraft do something?

Eh, BB the GM is not really appealing. Without him coaching, I don't see the point.

 

I think we'd see a better chance of Brady retiring than anything at this point....but I'm not expecting that to happen. Belichek has said in the past that the only team he'd be up for coaching besides NE is the Giants, so I don't see him going anywhere soon. Rift or not, he's built an entire organization around him and that's tough to walk away from.

Mcdaniels failed in Denver, but he knows the ins and outs of the Pats cheating methods. And he knows that as long as Ernie Adams sticks around he'll be successful.

Actually, if there was some way to prove that he didn't cheat during his time in NE I would consider it. However, we all know that can't happen.

 

I think there could be 2 factors here with the McDaniels weirdness.

#1 is that Luck's shoulder is worse than the fans know and think. McDaniels got wind of that and peaced out (remember he knows Brissett already).
#2 is that Kraft made him a godfather offer of a big salary increase for 1-2 years which BB will retire after.

There is no chance that BB comes here.

I am starting to wonder though, if Luck will ever play another down in the NFL. Grigson should be loaded into a cannon and fired into the sun for that travesty.

Reality is that some people don't want victory of it means doing it a certain way. The Patriots are divisional rivals. That means something to some people. Not everyone, but some.

There are other great cyclists like Merckx, Hinault and Anquetil. All won 5 Tour de France's to Lance's 7, but they also dominated other Tours with Merckx winning a total of 11 Grand Tours, Hinault 10 and Anquetil 8. Funny thing is that Anquetil confessed to drug use but didn't get his titles stripped, and Merckx repeatedly failed drug tests and got expelled from other Tours, just never got caught in the Tour de France lol.

Competitive cycling was and continues to be full of doping. Lance's main nemesis Jan Ullrich who won the Tour once was also found guilty, and the current 4-time champion Froome was just found guilty of doping at the Vuelta a Espana last year and will be stripped of that title and probably suspended LOL.

So I personally think Lance should be recognized as a legitimate 7-time Tour de France winner because it seems like he won those titles on an even playing field (20 of 21 other podium finishers during Lance's reign were also found guilty of doping!). Who knows.. maybe far in the future there will be some revisionist history that reinstates those titles.

In this sense, the Lance Armstrong - Belichick comparison is a bit off mark unless you want to argue that the level of cheating in the NFL is as prevalent as it is in competitive cycling (the poster child for cheating in sports).

I idolized Lance. He was one of my favorite athletes ever and when I heard there were rumors of him cheating I thought it was ridiculous.

Even if every other cyclist during his time was cheating you still can't say he's one of the best. Why? Maybe his cheating was better? maybe his body reacted better to blood doping than someone else. Maybe if no one cheated Lance would have never won a tour?

This is the problem with cheating. You just don't know. And BB cheated. And we don't really know how good of a coach he really is. If not for Spygate maybe they fail to get to any Super Bowls in the early 2000's? Maybe they fail to win more than 8 or 9 games per season during that span? Maybe Kraft fires BB because of this? The Pats cheating potentially changed an entire timeline of events that would have neither BB or anyone else in New England as being great or the GOAT.

Also I take it you are unaware of the significance of Belichick's time in Cleveand in developing, along with DC Saban, the most advanced and modern pass coverage in football - pattern match. Belichick had also just began to turn around the Browns when Modell sold the team midseason and shipped the franchise to Baltimore.

That' some good revisionist history. Yes, BB while in Cleveland won a playoff game during his 4th season there. The very next season they went 5-11 with the 20th ranked defense AFTER he and Saban started using pattern match. He went 36-44.

It's not really the year that followed their playoff victory that shows Belichick wasn't that good in Cleveland. It's what he did before all that. The Browns went to the playoffs 5 times from 1985-1989 and 3 times to the AFC championship game once Kosar became the QB.

After a bad season they hired Belichick in 1991. Belichick was 6-10, 7-9, and 7-9 his first 3 years with a team that was only 1 year removed from 5 consecutive years of playoff appearances and an appearance in the AFC championship. Furthermore, Belichick didn't immediately become HC of another team afterwards, instead rejoining Parcells to became an assistant HC for 4 years before getting the NE head coaching gig. So it's not like he was in great demand after Cleveland.
