Per WQAM, on Tuesday he hangs up the hat and shades.

He was a staple in Florida, I can even recall the late 70's Bowden Ball teams that would fake punts and run the fumblrooski.
for me, I sort of suspected Bowden had slipped when Lorenzo Booker came to the NFL and basically could not do a darn thing except run the ball, couldn't block, couldn't field punts or kick offs poor Wr. LBook was the #1 rated Rb prospect and FSU just did not develop him into anything more.
Kinda see the same thing at USC with their Wr lately.

Can't say anything nice about ya, good riddance... enjoyed kicking your ***, though!

It's going to be weird not seeing him on the sidelines next year, since he's been there as long as I've been watching football.
Regardless of if you're an FSU fan or not, I think he should get a ton of respect for what he's done for that school's football program over the last 30 + years. His coaching was a big part of what's made the instate rivalry games between FSU and UF and the :theu: so great. -
As a PSU fan I am happy to know JoePa will retire with the record now, and no one will pass him. However college football won't be the same without Bobby (even if I did say he should retire).

I have to agree.
Bowden has been a class act where ever he has been. Truly amazing what he did for Marshall during his time at West Virginia. He took FSU from being a joke to a team that will not tolerate anything less than greatness. Getting there isn't as much of a problem as is staying there. Sad to see Bowden go on such a bad note but hope he wins bowl game big!!!CrunchTime, Oboy and M1NDCRlME like this. -

VERY poor job by FSU. -

The nerve of this clown to lobby for the Gator Bowl. He has no honor, dignity, or respect for teams more deserving than his 6-6 squad. There are 7 teams in the ACC with better records and he's lobbying to have six of them (one going to the Orange Bowl) placed in lower bowls than his 6-6 football team? I've lost the little respect I had left for Bowden. Whether or not he gets the bid I hope he goes out in the worst way possible with a shredding loss.
And if the Gator Bowl extends a bid to Florida State they should be taken out of January play in the future. -
he's lobbying for his final game to essentially be a home game. So what...all of the teams (including your beloved U) will get their cut of the money. Were it not for the guy you hate so much the epic battles in the 80s between FSU, Miami, and UF would never have happened. Like it or not part of UMs glory comes from Bowden, just as part of FSUs glory come from that "once" dirty program down there in Miami. That was the stuff of legends but I'm guessing you weren't born yet, so you couldn't truly appreciate the significance.
It's one last hurrah for the old guy get over it. -
Again, how is it fair to the teams that finished better this year to take a backseat to a 6-6 football team? HUGE difference between 9-3 and 6-6.
Hey, if BB decides to retire after this season do we put NE in the Super Bowl to honor him ahead of the better teams?
Florida State, you can argue doesn't even deserve a bid. If anything, Emerald Bowl at best.
Honor Bowden on your own time, hell, throw the guy a parade. But with this move you're taking away from more deserving programs and that is not right.
I'm not just speaking for Miami. I'm speaking for the six total ACC teams that Florida State undeservedly will jump.
For a guy who talks so much about honor, respect, etc. you'd think he'd have more respect for the programs in front of his. -
If he wanted to go out in a Florida bowl then he should have done his job a bit better this year. PERIOD.
6-6 programs have no business lobbying for selective bowls; should be lucky to even be in consideration. -
NCAA = joke. Period. -
You want to know what a total lack of respect is? Here, I'll show you:
ACC Standings:
1. Georgia Tech 10-2 (7-1) - LOCKED: BCS / Champs Sports Bowl
2. Clemson 8-4 (6-2) - LOCKED: BCS / Champs Sports Bowl
3. Virginia Tech 9-3 (6-2)
4. Miami (FL) 9-3 (5-3)
5. Boston College 8-4 (5-3)
6. North Carolina 8-4 (4-4)
7. Florida State 6-6 (4-4)
8. Duke 5-7 (3-5)
9. Wake Forest 5-7 (3-5)
10. N.C. State 5-7 (2-6)
11. Virginia 3-9 (2-6)
12. Maryland 2-10 (1-9)
And Bobby Bowden is begging to get into the Gator Bowl over the four programs more deserving than his school that finished far better? That is a lack of respect. He doesn't deserve the respect from Miami, Virginia Tech, Boston College, or UNC fans for this crap he's pulling. What about the seniors on all four of those teams? It's going to be their last game as well. They worked hard this year and actually performed well enough to position themselves better than Florida State, and it's going to be taken away from them to honor Bobby Bowden? What a joke. You're a Gators fan, so you're looking past the garbage that he's doing because you could care less. That's fine. I understand that. But to fans of the more deserving programs... to the players and coaching staffs... it's not fair at all. Not in the least bit. I've always respected Bobby Bowden as a rival opponent, but that's going all out of the window with this crap he's pulling.
Like I said, injuries aside... I hope they get shredded in Bowden's final game. Unless of course justice is served and FSU is placed in the Emerald Bowl where they belong. -
Bobby Bowden has earned the right to ask for the Gator Bowl and they may not even get it. The only difference is really the gifts the players recieve and location. All thses teams could be thinking that it will also net them a easier oppenent anyway. Besides if we start giving teams the bowls they deserve No ACC team would be in the BCS either.

Enjoy the games, I know I will, but to take this stuff seriously one may as well be a Rey Mysterio Jr fan...:lol:High Definition likes this. -
-
Bowden was one of the main reasons I became a Noles fan to begin with. Hate to see him go, but its time. Thanks for the great yrs.
-
Yeahn next thing you know a Coach of a 6-6 team will simply state which bowl he wants to coach in and it will happen... -
-
-
As for "no one has given FSU.."
Please, Bowls are business enterprises, this is Bowden's last game, it will be in FL and it will have a record attendance, tough luck Hurricanes. -
Bowden still may not play in the Gator bowl. Its about money yes but they wont be losing much but hype if they take someone else -
That was what, 01? And yet in 09, the same stuff happens, wow, who would have guessed that, and it involved the #1 and #2 teams, 8 years later.
Personally Rey Msysterio Jr was robbed and he never should have lost the belt to Kane, darn refs...

BTW - By giving teams the bowls they deserve I was referring to conference placement. There is no justification for a 6-6 team playing in a January bowl over a slew of 9-3 and 8-4 teams in the same conference. -
Oh God... Memories of 2001 and that **** job by the refs... time to leave this thread (in tears)
-
Well your looking at too big a picture when you see records. Your overall records means very little as long as you get bowl eligable. What you need to look at is conference records. Florida State can only be picked ahead over teams that are One win better them in conference play. If Clemson wins than FSU probably will be selected for the Gator bowl. (Georgia Tech also while being more than One win better is the runner up and subject to another rule which stats the Gator Bowl only has to select the runner up once every 4 yrs.) If Georgia Tech beats Clemson in the ACC title game than there is no chance of FSU playing in the Gator Bowl and than it would go to either BC or Miami. Lets see who wins first before we get all excited cause this may all be for not. Anyway hope this helps you
