Guys Im just the messenger, but tonight on channel 4 Bo was talking about the runningback position and how nice Lex has looked. He said Ricky is getting slower and it would not surprise him if they traded him. He also said for that to happen the organization would have to be extremely sold on Lex & make sure he is not a Chris Williams.
Guys Miami has a real nice headache at RB and if Lex keeps showing up they will have to hide him on the Roster similiar to how they did last year with Murphy.
Truth is Ricky wants to retire after this year and Lex could be something special.

Obviously Bo is speculating, but I mentioned it last night as well. Not Ricky, but the fact that we have what looks like four very good running backs on the roster.
I don't know that anybody is going to trade for a 32 year old running back in the last year of his contract. Especially a guy like Ricky who has and continues to express interest in things outside of football.
With Ronnie being the #1 in his prime and Patrick Cobbs one of Sparano's favorites, I think Lex is the guy that'd be a hot commodity.
CK made a good point last night in that Ronnie and Ricky are both in the last year of their deals. So they may not want to let this guy get away. Ideally Lex inherits Ricky's spot next year. -

People keep saying he didn't do good on special teams but all you have to watch the Jags game and see him on a few special teams tackles.
-
Lex really looks good. Our offseason program has added muscle and he's choosing the right lanes.
-
Heck if he keeps it up strong in the final 2 games they may just cut Ricky outright if they can't getanything for him. But lets see how the kid holds up first before we speculate that far.
-
Hell, if he can show that the last 2 games weren't a fluke and can continue to run like that against 1st team defenses, then that opens pandora's box.
Think about how that would effect Ricky and Ronnie.
That would certainly throw a huge wildcard into the whole Ronnie trade extension talks.anlgp likes this. -
From what we've seen I think that at the very least he could fill RW's spot. And If this kid keeps developing like this, it could put us in a better position if Ronnie and his agent try to break the bank. After seeing the way he hits that hole with perfect pad level, just blowing thru the gap with authority, how could you want to do anything else with Hilliard other than giving him some more carries.....and against better players? Just idk, let's see what we have here in this guy before we get too hasty. Personally, I don't see any of the WR's that are currently fighting for that 6th spot, that are worth letting Hilliard go.
This FO is pretty smart in most matters. I would find it hard to believe that they would make the mistake of letting another team reap the benefits after we drafted and developed him. You don't build a contender by not taking advantage of the fact that you drafted well.

Not to take away from any of our backs ability but it is easy to showcase your running skills when you have an offensive line that actually blocks. Watch the games as they are replayed on NFL Network. That offensive line is getting real push up front on the dives and the success in the pulling schemes remind me of the Lombardi Packers. This ground game is all about the line and I thank God for Bill Parcels at least three times a game when I can't help but notice it.

Another preseason Super Star?
If anything, Lex should be traded if we can find a taker, he has looked good but let's keep some perspective, if we showcase him in Game 3, than maybe he is on the trading block. -

I personally think that we will keep both PC and LH. I don't think this front office will just dump somewhat proven talent for a prospective low draft pick that could produce absolutely nothing. I am sure that there are spots on the roster that could be pared down lower to keep all four of the running backs that we currently have right now. There are much smarter people on this board than I am, so what do you think of cutting down on the TE's, secondary or FB position to keep them. How much does this team really use or rely on our FB position. I look forward to hearing your positive comments about that point.

I for one don't want Ricky going anywhere, no offense to Cobbs and Hilliard, but Ronnie and Ricky on the field together are DANGEROUS.
Ricky is 1 suspension away from a lifetime ban still right?
Ricky stated he wants to play another year after this one before retiring I think. Let him retire in Miami.
He's in the best shape he's been in since he retired.
His contract isn't even that much I don't think. I wouldn't trade him, he is a big part of the synergy on our roster I believe.PhinsRock, cdz12250, dolfan7171 and 3 others like this. -
We can cut Polite, put Hilliard at FB, scrap the I formation (So Hilliard can't block) and only run singleback formations, shotgun and the wildcat.

As great as Ricky has looked recently, he's going to retire a dolphin for 2 reasons. 1. I don't see any team trading a pick, second day or other wise for a 32 year old running back who is on the verge of retirement. 2. Lets for a min say some team trades for him. I'm not sure Ricky would play on said team. He shares the reps with Brown, Cobbs, etc here. He doesn't get beat up and over worked the way he would in some other systems. He has a sweet deal in Miami. I just don't see him going anywhere else.
Besides, he promised his good old mommy that he would buy me a nice home on South Beach to retire to! ;)first&goal, dolfan7171 and dolphindebby like this. -

Ok, this Lex has performed well in two pre-season games. Most of the time against 2nd and 3rd stringer-defenses. It was visible that he has potential but I am not ready to give up on a proven veteran like Ricky for a "could be".
Just imagine something happens to Ronnie and we will be stuck with Cobbs and Lex instead of Ricky as the insurance policy. -
I like Lex but please don't compare him to Ricky a proven commodity, Ricky will have a monster season. -
Can T-Lex be taught to block? I would hope so. Does Loe Polite have T-Lex's up side or speed? I think not, can we keep both? Yes, but. Is Lex as good as he appears to be so far and can we afford to cut him loose knowing both Ronnie and Ricky are in their last year of their present contracts?
12 times he ran the ball on either 3rd-and-1 or 4th-and-1 Polite picked up the first down 11 times. He played in 11 games and when not blocking he touched the Ball 29 times (23 - for 85 yards on the ground and 6 - 24 yards passing). What I'm saying is which is more important long term for this Team Lou Polite or T-Lex?
Thoughts?
P.S. I want to keep Ricky!! -
Its a tough kernundrum for the FO and I will NOT speculate at this point.......I will however go BOOoooooo everytime Hilliard touches the ball from here on out.
Not in a negative tone, but because this kid IS the reincarnation of Norm Bulaichsteveincolorado likes this. -
Lex had a good game>i doubt they get rid of Ricky and if thet did do you think Lex would jump over Cobbs to start?I don't think so.

Ricky seems to get traded every year.
Got busted for weed-Didn't trade him.
Quit football-Didn't trade him.
Played in the CFL-Didn't trade him.
Got injured after like 5 plays-Didn't trade him.
Now Lex has a couple of good preseason games against scrubs, and we're going to trade him? Don't think so.dolfan7171, Loyal Fin, Themole and 2 others like this. -
I don't think RW will be traded this year. His contract really isn't cheap for a back up. I think people keep forgetting that his contract was re-done a couple of years back. IIRC he'll make about $3.5 million this year. Also I'd be leery of trading for a player who might just retire on me.

If we say bye to Ricky Williams next year then we will resign Ronnie Brown.
Here is what I think it will look like next year.
1. Ronnie Brown
2. Lex Hilliard
3. Patrick Cobbs -
Easy now...just read...what if the front office wants to trade Ronnie instead. I don't think it will happen, but you never know. If we can get someones #1 and possibly more, do they make that happen? We have Pat White here now to run the Wildcat. The front office loves to stockpile picks and having many in the early rounds will be good.
