Thought it would be a good idea to have a thread detailing the bowls that players people think the Dolphins may be interested in are playing in.
Tomorrow for example:
The New Mexico Bowl, Wyoming v Fresno State
Players to watch:
For Wyoming, John Fletcher:
http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=14879&draftyear=2010&genpos=DE
6'6 272, he could be a late round mtn west pick that Ireland loves to make, he would project as a SOLB and he plays special teams already for the Cowboys, he would make a good replacement for Erik Walden imho
For Fresno State:
Ryan Matthews
Scored a ton at FS, nice size at 6'0 220.

Amazing, a Patriot's fan has already done all of the homework:

You should also watch for Seyi Airotutu. The wideout from Fresno State.
-
Thought this might be helpful as it gives all the Bowl Games and where they can be seen.

College staffs are limited to 17 hours a week, of course there are ways around that limit " but" cumulatively the 3 weeks or more of prep time roughly equals the effort a good NFL staff would put in for a regular season game.
Airotutu will have the benefit of all of that prep time the same as Matthews, who knows, maybe he surprises everyone with a big game? -
A guy I am curious to see more of is Marcus Easley from UCONN.
6'2'' 216 lbs WR - #29
Only started one year, although he did get some action his junior year, although limited production. Regardless, this year he still had 44 receptions for 853 yards and 8TD's.
Just for reference, he had double the receptions of anyone else on the team, and UCONN's QB situation is putrid at best, and has been for a while now in the program, even going back 2-3 years minimum. Their offensive line has also underperformed compared to the level produces by William Beatty and our own Donald Thomas.
Easley is very raw, but he makes plays.....although he doesn't always run hard from what I've seen if he expects the ball to go somewhere else. Not every play, but it does happen. He does appear to be an adequate bocker, but again I NEED to see more of him.
He could be a nice mid to late round guy to snatch up. -

Gotta admit it, Fletcher, #91, has looked good so far, better than I thought he would.
He was moved out on a double team, but he has also shown a decent burst and pursuit speed and a nicer motor than I thought he would. -
-
Fletcher is doing real well, they have to double him or cut him on passing plays. -
-
Great game though, very entertaining -

Sure, set the edge, jam Te's, rush the passer occasionally.
Sure, I could see him doing that, for such a lanky player he has good leverage, and he has a high motor.
Plus he already plays on special teams 6'6 270, Sparano has said he is looking for big guys to do that job, he would fit the bill.
Be interesting to see if he has any invitations to the Shrine, Senior, or Tx v Nation all star games.adamprez2003 likes this. -

Mr. Fletcher, he has a nice base, but could get stronger, and he also sheds well, haven't really seen the passrushing skill, or lack thereof as WY has played mostly base defense and he has been double team.
He is a 5th or later round pick but he does look like a decent prospect, imho he would stick if he can play Special Teams. -
Fletcher with the final sack to end the game, he looked tired though.
They were even lining him up at NT on passing downs.adamprez2003 likes this. -

Merling? He's vanished Adamp, seriously, the only time I notice him on the DVR is when there is a running play for a good gain on his side of the Dline.
Let me make a prediction, the Dolphins Dline shows up today in a big way.adamprez2003 likes this. -

Temple vs. UCLA-EagleBank Bowl December 29, 2009
UCLA Defense
#92 DT JR- Brian Price-definately 1st round sleeper maybe #2 DT behind Suh.(pre-combine #15-30) Named to alot of All American Teams
#3 S SO- Rahim Moore-led nation is INTs(9) Named to alot of All American Teams
#10 OLB RSSO-Akeem Ayers-very athletic OLB(hybrid in the NFL-6'4 w/speed)
#1 CB SR-Alterraun Verner-Lockdown corner(mid 3-5 rd prospect)
#51 MLB SR-Reggie Carter-had a down year but still the vocal leader on defense(mid 4-6 rd prospect)
UCLA Offense-team is still young-no real standout yet
#83 WR SO-Nelson Rosario(6'5 with great hands-lots of drops though this season)
#82 WR SO-Tyler Embree
#23 RB SO-Johnathan Franklin(needs to hold on to the ball)
#25 K Kai Forbath-Best PK in the Nation(Grouza Award Winner) -
Ryan Mathews was by far the best prospect on the field. He got injured but showed his toughness by returning to the game. Racked up a ton of yards and 2 touchdowns.adamprez2003 likes this. -
Easley will, IMO, stay a later round prospect...because of his spotty history, only having been elevated in the depth chart after a breakout performance against Pittsburgh.
Prior to that he was mostly just a special teams player that would come in on some offensive situations like in the red zone, because of his size.
He could be something but I'm not sure you count on him being more than a special teams player, at this point. -
-
I think as a guy who has deep ability, with good size, is a little raw but has upside....he's one of those later round guys that holds some interest for me. I suppose the question will be at what point Miami moves away from question marks and deals in contributors?
