Do you guys think BM will continue to get 100+ catches this year or his catches are going to decrease because now hes with a new team, new QB and new organization?
Im thinking he gets 70 something catches this year just because i kinda think its impossible to get 100+ catches 4 year str8...hes gonna have to make me a believer, and if he does then he's the TRUTH.

If he stays healthy he will easily get 100+. This offense is tailored for players like Marshall.
-
Yeah, I doubt he gets 100 again. I just don't see it happening in our offense. I'd be willing to bet that his YPC is a couple yards higher than it was last year though. My prediction? 82.
-
that really depends but i think our offense would be stupid not to throw at him at least 8 times a game.
Assuming he catches most of them, that would easily be over 100 receptions. (out of 128 possible)
but receptions only matter in the endzone. -

As for 100 catches, I think it depends on how defenses play us, if we're winning or losing etc. BM went over 100 last year with a noodle armed QB, in an offense where he didnt become the focus of the passing game until late in the year. At the end of the day (Sparanoism), the only stat that matters is wins/losses, so hopefully BM will help us out that way (Sparanoism #2). -
Alright.
86 Receptions 1,178 yards 11 TD's and one AFC EAST TITLE. -
TO had 85 in Dallas the one yr he and Tuna were there, so to me 100 is possible.

As long as he plays all 16 games, Marshall will get at least 100 catches. I expect Bess won't get close to 76 this season though. A good many passes that went to Bess last year will now be directed to Marshall. If Henne has over 600 attempts it could happen that Bess gets another 76, but I'm thinking in this offense that about 500 attempts would be right for Henne. Because we are still a run oriented team when possible.

You would hope that an elite receiver would be notching 100+ receptions a season if he remains healthy for the season.

If Marshall does not get 100+ catches it'll be because of the way the offense is called. Just his threat should open some holes for the run game, and Henning likes to go with what is working at the time, so there could be stretches in a game that we run 70% of the time because it's working...that in itself could limit Marshall from getting over 100 catches...

Some else put it best. Marshall had a 100 with Kyle Orton... Kyle freakin' Orton. If he can get 100 receptions with Kyle Orton he can do the same with Henne.
If he doesn't get 100 receptions it will be because of the offensive play calling. That is about it :). -
I think it all depends. If we throw the ball like we did the last few games of the season, especially that second New England game, I think Brandon Marshall gets 100 receptions easily if he stays healthy (knocking on wood). If Ronnie stays healthy and we feature the wildcat again, it might be more in the 75-85 range. Either way I see him having a HUGE impact on our offense.
-
Just curious though, does anyone see a likely transition to a spread offense now that we don't necessarily have to manufacture yardage through crazy plays out of formations like the Wildcat and "Pistol Offense" [due to the lack of a play-making threat through the air]?
The chance of Ronnie heading for Detroit has me seeing the 2010 Dolphin offense as a mostly spread base offense with the occasional sprinkled [Ricky/Cobbs] in out of a single-back backfield (Ala Indy). Now that they've provided at least one legitimate receiving weapon, I see the Henning letting Henne loose.
There is also the chance however [Ronnie still gone], that they don't change the base set, since Henne was arguably most efficient when throwing out of a play-action situation.
In any case, I'm good with however things turn out as far as the 2010 offensive scheme is concerned. -

Here is some reading to clarify for you:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spread_offense
.." Despite the multi-receiver sets, the spread option is a run-first scheme which requires a quarterback that is comfortable carrying the ball, a mobile offensive line that can pull and trap effectively, and receivers that can hold their blocks. The essence of the spread option is misdirection. Effectively, this is the old triple option except that it utilizes spread sets. In particular, the quarterback must be able to read the defensive end and determine whether he is collapsing down the line or playing upfield contain.
A third version of the spread offense is the Pistol offense which is used by Chris Ault's Nevada Wolf Pack and some high schools across the nation. The Pistol Offense focuses on using the run with various offensive players, and calls for the quarterback to line up about three yards behind the center and take a short shotgun snap at the start of each play."....Larryfinfan and MikeHoncho like this. -
In my opinion, he won't do it in his first year or two. But as our offense gradually migrates to a more passing focused offense with weapons like Henne, Marshall, Bess, and Hartline, I'd be very surprised if the frequency of pass plays didn't go up, and by association Marshall's receptions.
-
It's really all speculation. If the opposing defense is doubling up on Marshall like is expected, it could be a pretty even distribution. -
I think you could argue that he played in the crappy AFC West and now he has to face some quality defenses he might have a harder time. Okland and KC aren't on the schedule 4 times this year, but hey Buffalo is on there twice  -
Not sure what to call it, but it's what Marino's Dolphins did so well for so many years. What the Colts/Pats have done well. -
An interesting fact; Peyton Manning attempted 571 passes. While Pennington and Henne combined attempted 525. I think we may attempt more, but it wouldn't be too many more. I'm hoping that Marshall affects the number of completions. -

As to trading Ronnie, anything can happen and if they feel they can get a 2nd round pick out of the deal, they'd do it. They have no allegiance to Brown. But my old college buddy Matt Millen isn't running things any longer there. They aren't going to give up as much as it would take to get a soon to be 29 yr old, oft injured back even tho he's a stud when healthy. They'd do better off to grab Spiller or Ryan or even Best in the draft... -
