Some Phins Phans are looking to add Edwards or another WR, and I don't get it. Hartline played very well last year, and can be a star.
Last season, Hartline 600 snaps and was targeted 73 times. He caught 43 passes for 615 yards, a 14.3 average. He also had 10 passes over 20 yards to lead the team, a 5 YAC, and only dropped 4 passes.
Marshall had 830 snaps and was targeted 147 times. He caught 86 passes for 1014 yards, a 11.8 average. He had 9 passes over 20 yards, a 2.7 YAC, and dropped 13 passes.
Let's go to a 7 game stretch in weeks 6-12 before injury vs GB, Pitt, Cinci, Balt, Tenn, Bears, and Oak.
In those games, hardly a flash and vs some VG Ds, Hartline had 32 catches for 587 yards, an 18 yard average, and only 1 drop. That is some very serious production from a #2 WR.
He and Henne do click, and I can see him going for 1,000 yards this season
I have no interest in replacing him.

Brian Hartline can't be a star because his 4.52 is was slower than many wide receivers in the league in that same range, he was drafted in the 4th round so his yardage and production only counts for half and he doesn't have nearly the attitude or off the field issues people require to take him seriously as a wide receiver.

I would rather go with Hartline then Edwards. I dont believe that Hartline only dropped 4 balls however. I think I remember more. Either way we are fine there.
-
I dont know if he can be a star but he certainly is a more than reliable 3rd option. He is a guy who should consistently have at least 500-750 yrds recieving and 3-6 Tds a season.

I love sarcasm. :) -

He's faster than Jerry Rice was. Speed is not the be all end all. He has way better hands than Edwards. I'm more than happy with him as a 3rd option.

Because he's too cornbread. Don't be afraid to say it because you know its true.

Remember that game 2 years ago against TN? It was his rookie season. Henne underthrew 82 on a deep ball and Hartline had the mental and physical ability to strip the ball away from the DB that had basically picked it off. It was one of the most exciting plays of the season for me.
Give Hartline a break, the dude is a threat and until he's beat out on the field.... hes a solid WR in the NFL. -

i think he is a solid WR ... not special and average height.
he is not Welker .... more like Camarillo or somewhere in between. would like to see him in the slot - but Bess is there and we don't have another legitimate outside threat yet.
Gates will replace him on the outside - but not likely this year .... i think Brian would excel in a 'Welkeresque' role, but won't get a chance to unless we find another legitimate outside option.
If we signed anyone -- i would prefer Moss to go on the outside ... Marshall, Bess, Hartline and Moss would be a very tough 4 WR set. -
I took a look at a few other matchups on Hartline. He was covered by Jet's Cromarte once, and beat him for 19 yards. He was covered by Pitt's Palamalu once, and beat him for 24 yards. He was covered by GB's Woodson 3 times, beat him twice for 29 yards, and vs Balt, a pretty good D, he caught 4 of 5 for 85 yards, a 21 yard average.
Gotta upgrade this guy. :0 -
I don't find that adding a big money #2 WR improves your offense much even if it's an upgrade. I'm going just by memory but I can't think of a time that a team had a #1 WR then brought in that big name #2 guy and had a big jump. Maybe it'll happen with Atlanta this year. They have a great #1 in White and IMO Jones has the talent to be a best in the league type.
I do find that bringing in complementary talents result in big offensive improvements. For example it you have a possession guy and you bring in a speed guy or if you have outside receivers and bring in a receiving TE that works the middle. -
hartline is a very solid player.
but im getting really tired of "solid" being the best i can say about any of our players.
And this thread is a perfect example of the BS Henne has to deal with. I've seen Hartline drop just as many passes that hennes put in his hands as Hennes missed throws. Yet hartline gets the free-pass, and henne gets the rod.DolfanJake likes this. -
Hartline's sole problem is he has not stayed healthy, otherwise I have no complaints about his game, maybe he should return kickoffs but otherwise..

Hartline would have had a huge game vs Cleveland had Henne thrown at least a decent pass to him when he blew past Haden. Unfortunately, Henne threw a pick.
It's amazing the type of BS you give Hartline while giving Henne a free pass for everything. Hartline has proven to be a good NFL player and he's just fine as our number 2. -

I just remember saying "So Sanchez' wr will literally hobble around the field making plays for him and our guys won't even catch the ones that hit their hands." -

The unit overall didn't do Henne much favors last season. I realize henne didnt do them any either but they left plays on the field. Hell, Marshall once dropped a pass that bounced off his hands into Ed Reeds.
And hartline was part of that. -

And naming Hartline as our best offensive player in any week is absurd. Marshall comes to mind, Bess, we have a pretty good LT as well.
I ask again, how many double teams does Hartline draw? How many plays does he make? -
This thread, and my posts, are about what HARTLINE has done in the way of production from the WR position for our team, and it was DAMN good. NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with Henne.
Your shots at Hartline have no basis, other than trying to bring Henne into the picture, which is dead wrong.
