High end backup achieved.
We’re set at QB

This is a great signing! The perfect insurance for Tua in case he either gets hurt or simply continues to play bad. Brissett is a player I have wanted in Miami for a few years now.

How much? It's a great move, but not if we gave him $10 million for one season.
I was starting to ponder what Mitch Trubisky would be like in a Dolphin uniform. He has plenty of starting experience and maybe a change of scenery could improve his play. Not that I think he'd really challenge Tua, but good as a #2 QB.KeyFin likes this. -
Tyrod Taylor got 12. Dalton got 10. I would imagine Brissett getting less than them.

I honestly don't think I've ever seen Brissett play over the years. Don't know anything about him other than he's another journeyman who never fully proved himself.
Just saw he was from West Palm Beach, so it's a homecoming for him. Looks like he's coming off a contract w/ $20M guaranteed...so he must have been seen as potential starter material recently.
From CBS a few days ago-
"For a guy who twice took over as an emergency full-time starter in Indianapolis, Brissett sure feels like an afterthought right now, and Carson Wentz's arrival via trade all but ensures he's headed elsewhere. No one should be viewing him like a surefire No. 1; in two years as a 15-game starter, he was thoroughly conservative -- safe and mostly steady, but rarely a game-changer. Still, his mettle, underrated mobility and experience in winning systems makes him a top-end backup and/or bridge QB. He'd be the perfect veteran to pair with a young No. 1 or starter-in-waiting, and he's more than capable of holding down the fort for weeks at a time."Last edited: Mar 16, 2021 -
Contrary to what anyone wants to believe, there will be no quarterback competition in training camp.
Brissett fully signs on to be a backup. I could possibly see him in on short yardage situations like he has done in the past.resnor likes this. -

Brissett is solid, he was playing pretty well here in Indy and would’ve had them in the playoffs 2 years ago had he not gotten hurt. He rushed back after we embarrassed Brian Hoyer at Lucas Oil and wasn’t the same.
they would’ve actually made the playoffs even still if Vinatieri wasn’t awful also -
$7.5 million. 5 guaranteed.

High quality backup quarterback, love the signing especially with Fitzpatrick out

Just enough money to make me dislike the signing. :couch:

So, they let Fitz walk because he wanted more? Or, because he wanted a chance to start? Or, maybe, just maybe because he posed too much of a threat to Tua.
Welcome to the 'Phins Jacoby. Don't show up our starting QB now, ya hear!
Sorry. Guess I'm just in a bit of a mood right now. Annual rite of passage I suppose. -
Yes, exactly.

I think it's a good move from a backup QB position. Quite a bit of starting experience. About what you'd expect results wise from a backup. I feel safe with him coming into games too. Don't mind the salary, capable backup QB's dont come cheap and this is one that's coming cheaper than other signings thus far and one that we can trust on the field if needed.

Perfect QB for the job. Probably has some familiarity with Grier/Flores from the Patriots. Knowledgeable and experienced, capable of being a "coach" type backup. Can push Tua, and isn't a dud on the field if we need for a few games.
I'm not excited, but I'm satisfied. Exactly the mentality one should have about a backup.Tin Indian and JJ_79 like this. -
Not sure why anyone has any problems with the money he was given. That’s a legit veteran backup money, a true veteran backup quarterbacks are the ones have experience winning nfl games.
Hell, i think he could have gotten 10 million elsewhere, but Jacoby probably sees an opportunity to play in Miami so he took less.
mariota got 2 years 17 million to back up Carr. I think thats the ceiling for backup quarterbacks.
