Eh, not sure how I feel about that one, boom or bust with him is quite high and Mikey boy Brown is digging in his heels, scratch C Palmer off of the options menu.
Has anyone seen Bulger play in the last 3 yrs?

Palmer was never on the menu.
As for Bulger… no thanks. That would be basically rigging the competition for Henne. -

Ive said a million times, you already have your pocket passer on the roster...Now if they wanna make a gesture for competition and a gesture of respect for Henne, they will bring in Mark Bulger.

That is one of the reasons why Grossman/Young/Orton are my guys, if they beat out Henne we have some future hope, if they do not then Henne will have really beaten out "someone". -

This is bargain basement stuff here fellas, you have choices of head cases, vets who were cast off, and overpriced trades, welcome to the swap meet. -

Well, Brown's statement only reiterates the validity of what my source said back in January with regard to Palmer. As Desides aptly put it, Palmer was never on the menu, nor is he going to be.

He learned he does not have to try and make something out of plays that just are not there to be made, he had maybe 10 intentional overthrows in those 3 starts, instead of trying to pump the ball into covered Wr's, that is why I list him.
Matt Leinart is also on the cusp, not on the list mind you, but in that "no surprise if" area of things, if Grossman rejevenauted himself in Texas with Kubiak, perhaps Leinart did as well? His problem is he does not have enough Starts, he has 17 in his career and I consider 20 the bare minimum until you start really reaching, not taking a calculated risk, but outright reaching for something that is probably not there and has no basis to reach for it. -
Reports had Bulger all but retired 2 weeks ago. Really I'll pass and just see what plays out..

If Palmer were to come in here, the team could be looking for his guidance even IF Henne happened to beat him out (since Chad has a head start and all). IMO that would be the Pennington affect all over again. -

We could do worse. Its no coincidence that Bulgers play went downhill once Orlando Pace was too old / injured. He is 34. That is not too old to be a starting qb in this league. IMO he is worth a shot. He did replace / beat out a possible HOF qb in Warner.

What martz does is similar to what Daboll has in mind imho, so Bulger could be a natural fit from that pov, I just am not thrilled with a mid 30 something Qb with question marks. -

If Mark Bulger is 100% healthy (BIG if) we need to sign him. He could put up big numbers here in our system.

Our best shot at correctly addressing the quarterback position was in the draft. Spireland made job security priority number one and decided to put pieces around Henne rather than replace Henne. At this point, it really doesn’t matter who they bring in, Henne will have an innate advantage due to more advanced knowledge of Daboll’s playbook. Whatever competition is held in whatever bizarre semblance of training camp we get this year is a sham.
At this point I’d just like to see the Dolphins make a move for a backup, maybe Josh Johnson from the Bucs. That’s a guy who can survive the impending regime change. -

Not completely opposed to Bulger but do not expect Kurt Warner, we'd be lucky if we got Pennington from 2008. -
Oh boy, another has been, old qb that can be added to miamis long list of failed attempts at finding a decent qb.

I said from the beginning that I never really liked this draft class at quarterback, but I figured there was probably a guy or two we liked early (Locker, Ponder) but not enough to sell the farm. When it came to free agents, I always considered Carson Palmer to be the only clear upgrade and figured he was going to cost too much (or not be available at all). After that, I thought Vince Young represented the best shot at bringing in competition for Henne with real upside. But there's all sorts of unknowns with Young. I can't sit the guy down in a room and have a conversation with him to feel him out. It's impossible to make any determinations as to character and motivation from my computer. And so I always threw Marc Bulger's name out as my next choice. I was living with a Rams fan when St. Louis made the transition to Bulger, and the guy can play. I still think Henne would likely beat him out in any competition, but I think Henne would come out a better quarterback for it. And I think Bulger would be a very solid backup.
I understand that people would be disappointed with that scenario, but I came to terms with its possibility long ago. It's just not a great year for solving problems at the quarterback position. That's why a guy like Christian Ponder gets drafted #12 overall with a legit chance to start on opening day. That's why the Benglas seem halfway serious about placing the franchise in the hands of Andy Dalton. And it's why someone will inevitably overpay for Kevin Kolb.MrClean and ToddsPhins like this. -

I'd love to land Palmer, I think he would cement the position for a good 5 years but he is probably going to be forced to retire. On a side note, who would want to play for Cincy now?
Bulger as a free agent makes a lot of sense. He knows the position, has played at a high level and would accept a backup role if he could not beat out Henne. If he legitimately outplays Henne he should start and Henne could learn from him for a year or two and compete for the job at some point. Both players would more than likely miss a start here and there due to injury and both could get time anyway at some point. Bulger is older and isn't what he was, to me he's the perfect guy to have Henne compete against, a younger Qb like Henne should beat him out, if he doesn't then he can't argue about not being given a fair shot. No draft pick investment, a guy Henne should be able to beat, a guy that can play in this league, I like the idea of bringing him in.ToddsPhins likes this. -
I don't think any of the other guys (Palmer or Orton) are long term solutions; therefore I'm not a fan of bringing them in and creating any sense of conflict after the type of offseason we've had. It seems like we're starting to develop some unity and leadership, so I'd like to see where that leads us without being disrupted.
Personally, I'd rather have either an impressively developing Henne or draft a top 2012 QB than to use a 2nd on Orton or Palmer and watch them potentially cap our future success. IMO the only way this happens is to let Henne sink or swim. If he loses out to a FA like Bulger or Hasselbeck, then so be it; at least the bandaid at QB wouldn't cost us draft picks in the process. At least that's how I feel about it.
