"Panthers receiver Steve Smith says he" lit into" Cam Newton about his actions on the sidelines when the young quarterback was replaced late in the fourth quarter of Thursday night's 36-7 blowout loss to the New York Giants.
Smith says he was upset when Newton remained sitting on the bench instead of watching backup Derek Anderson and trying to learn from his own mistakes.
Smith says he called Newton out so he could "understand this is more than about playing football, it's about becoming a man and understanding this is what it's about."
Didn't want him leading our franchise predraft, regardless of his talent, for these very reasons..
A gross lack of humility this young man has.
Every man has to grow up at some point, let's see if the future hall of famer Steve Smith can get this dude to change his ways.

Apparently he also thinks the Giants didn't beat them last night.
-
Sophomore slump time for Cam. They're in a tough spot, because everyone assumed they'd somehow magically be good even though they were by most accounts a bad team last year.
-
Giants ate that zone read up. Forced Cam in a bad spot. I guess they really miss Jonathan Stewart.
-
He was a monster last season.
One bad appearance isn't going to change my opinion. For many players, this type of event serves as a catalyst for change. A turning point. It's called adversity. He wouldn't be the first guy to face it and be forced to grow from it.
Let's see what he's made of.dolfan32323, unluckyluciano and Anonymous like this. -

I know he had an amazing season last year, but I don't see an NFL QB when I watch him play. I don't know what it is...he can put up decent yardage numbers but I don't see him as the QB who is just a born winner and leader.

Celebrating when losing shouldn't get you cut, it should get you ridiculed and laughed at.

You're trolling hard with the title of this post and I won't take the bait. So much hate for a guy you don't even know....

My favorite player in the league checked his ***..Maybe that will change him..cause their no question about it, he needs to change.
I'll say what I said before he got drafted, "he will go no 1, but I wouldn't take him, that boy is gonna put his foot in his mouth one to many times." -

Cam's pretty immature w/a douchy personality, imo. Smith did the right thing by lighting into him for sulking and that td celebration was idiotic.
He's 23 so yea, he's a grown *** man and shouldn't be cut any slack right now imo. Now is that still young enough to change? Absolutely.
As for now; douchebag.djphinfan likes this. -
Cam Newton had the greatest rookie season for a QB in the history of the NFL. Ever.
You're completely blowing this celebration out of proportion. And your calling Cam "boy" over and over again shows the true source of your criticism. But that's okay. Cam still loves you.BlameItOnTheHenne and Anonymous like this. -
And yeah, sorry, no one on this board was completely mature at age 23. And if you think you were, you aren't being honest.dolfan32323, GARDENHEAD and Anonymous like this. -
Speaking of Steve Smith, I have nothing against the Panthers but them being down so many points at least cut out his celebrating every reception. He'll make a three yard catch and act like he won the Super Bowl. And he seems to do it every... single... catch... I'm all for excitement, trying to inspire your team, and all that jazz, but it loses its effect when you do it on every play.
-
Eh- I have no problem with him celebrating a score. I agree with Smith he needs to be on that sideline watching the offense go at it and trying to learn, though. Cam is a good QB and will undoubtably be a star in this league. Give him some time to mature. I like what Carolina has going on up there though. Newton, Stewart, Williams, Smith, LaFell, Olson... man, scary offense.

Talented guy but he does have some caracter concerns which he always has had and which will surface from time to time.As has been mentioned he is not alone .Think of Michael Vick who eventually did overcome some of his caracter flaws.
I think what has happened to him is that teams have figured him out and that he needs to develop more into a complete QB. -
He has rebounded nicely today. 3 touchdowns.

Wow. That is tough defense.
