As a person, I like Matt Moore. I like his fire. As a QB, he's awful. Yes, I can already hear from the future some of you not reading any more and tapping away on your response citing his first two games as a starter last year where no one had any tape of him that was relevant. However, I would remind you that once he got a couple games in, teams clearly had him figured out.
Moore is a risk taker. Again, I dig that part. However, he is just not a very good QB. He throws into coverage and is not very good at protecting the football. He can't run very well, and his throws lack precision. He also fumbles the ball quite a bit (see Steelers game).
My point is that many people seem to view him as a serviceable backup. I disagree because he can't seem to win any games now that there is tape on him. Off the bench in the middle of the game, maybe. But when the opponent can game plan for him, they shut him down.
My vote going into the offseason (these last games are just a tease and chance for us to bungle our draft pick) would be to allow T-Hill to (over the next season) become the backup. We like him, he likes us, but we need better talent. We need to swing at one of the big QBs in the draft or finaggle an all world trade for a Ryan, Newton or somebody (I don't care what we need to give up we need a QB). So, if it's a draft pick, let T-Hill start next year and work the transition based on how he's playing. We just need a bigger plan at Qb than T-Hill who is going to be entering year 6 of the T-Hill as QB project.

I think they should also maybe call up Los Angeles too and ask about Jared Goff.

That is $50M and the $16M in cap room and rebuild the trenches. There has to be a plan, and I am saying the trenches. Part of the intermediary plan is drafting a rookie qb for the future. But for next year, go after Brees or Cousins on a 1-2 year deal. Cousins may get franchised again, maybe not. Brees, contractually, won't be franchised. So you have $66M, plus whatever the cap goes up, and half goes to a qb, for argument sake.
In 2019, you have more cap savings on the way....

We are not gutting the team. We got hit by injuries this preseason. The season was over in august. It happens. Hopefully next year we avoid the injury bug. We will revamp the offensive line, add a linebacker and hopefully a tight end and running back. Maybe a defensive lineman and defensive back. That' about it

The answer to your thread title... Yes. Some of us have been saying that for quite some time now. But, the backup QB is always the most popular guy on alot of rosters I guess. He's got a spark though. So, that's promising for us. Oh... nevermind.
Trade for a Ryan? Newton? I mean... seriously? That's NEVER happening. Not in the prime of their careers. Come on.
The only way this team can presently address it's QB situation is to draft one early if they wanted to, and trade Tannehill to add resources to build. If you're going to do that though, you better be damn sure this guy you're drafting is ready to play week one. Maybe you can get by keeping Ryan as QB1/competition for the rook, but I doubt that. This team isn't presently built to be successful though with a rookie QB. It's in rough shape, so you'd almost have to move Ryan to get the draft pieces to build around someone else at QB. I don't see that happening either.
I'd see them taking a QB in the 2nd or 3rd, but again... I don't see that happening realistically either. There are too many holes to fill on the roster. If Moore doesn't come back as a backup (and I'm starting to believe he won't be back) then they likely sign a journeyman type vet capable as a backup.
Theyre in a bad spot right now until they can clean up the cap.
However, in their minds, I think they're quite alright with Tannehill. Backup, they'll figure it out. -

Moore drew two insurmountable games for his starts this year against the Ravens and Pats and he doesn't have the liberty of developing chemistry with fellow starters for an entire year so judgments are commonly made in a vacuum.
As a staunch Moore support during his tenure with the Miami Dolphins, I believe it's time to move on though. I would have loved to see him commandeer this team after the 2011 season, but that never materialized. He's a capable backup ..... yet he's long in the tooth and plays for a coach IMO that clearly doesn't believe in him. It's best for the franchise to draft some young talent - especially to push Tannehill if they're still sold on bringing him back. I don't see how he isn't on the roster given Gase's man crush. But even that man will be 30 and coming off two major knee injuries.dolphin25 likes this. -
All I will say is Miami needs to draft a QB in the mid-rounds to groom under Tannehill. I suggest they be hard at work scouting QBs yesterday, as well as all other positions of need of course.

I'm going to go with a no on the thread.
When he has come into games the Dolphins were behind and they had to attack. Moore is really good at attacking.
When he has started Gase has gone back to the , whatever offense that is, but not an attacking one and Moore has not played well. However, that is not the type of QB he is.
It looked like Moore audioabled a couple times during the game and on those plays we had positive results.
Those 2 games he started were the 2 most difficult so far. We match up horribly with the Ravens and game would have to be almost perfect for Dolphins to beat the Patriots. -
Look Matt Moore is not the future of this team. He is what we have today. Miami needs to go out and find a 1, maybe 2 qb's for the future.

My guess is you won't get anything with Suh in the deal. His contract will make him undesirable.
RT and Parker? I honestly think you would get some good return for. If we are going to try to make the jump for one of the top QBs in the draft this trade would make sense. 100% agree there are people untradeable and there are some people on here saying if the price is right everyone is, qb's aren't a dime a dozen cam, Rodgers and Ryan all are unattainable given the circumstances knowing they aren't going to opt out and leave the franchise.

Chuck Knoll started off very poorly. But then he drafted Terry Bradshaw and started winning. I would have more patience if we would draft a legit top qb. We have not and entered this year with no plan at QB besides to ride T-Hills bum knee.
Bill Walsh same as Knoll he drafted Joe Montana in year one. Same as above. We have drafted no one and we're 5 years into T-Hill becoming an average at best QB.
Shula never went below 6 wins. If we can get this team to 6-10 I'll start a thread that he did as bad a s Shula. You know damned well he is no Shula.
It is inexplicable that Cowboys stuck with Landry for the first five years. He sucked for that half decade. I don't want to suck for five years to let Gase get good. Do you?
