watching the 49 ers game last night how they have so much talent and how they have two great backs three tight ends and then a wr like Boldin and Crabbtree . there gm is doing things the right way but Miami has Ireland and his loyal followers cant see the big picture because they seem to think the sun always shines on Jeff Irelands butt.
anyone outside the Miami fan base can see that Miami is going nowhere. only a jets bills and Pats fan would want Ireland to keep his job because we cant sweep any of our rivials nor will we anytime soon unless we go after some big time players or rebuild the oline .
you Jeff Ireland excuse makers can stop antagonizing the fans that want to win . all of our problems are of his doing . sure we have to put some blame on Philbin but Jeff the Jerk hasn't brought us the talent that 49 ers , the Seahawks, and even the Lions have. I don't like the Lions coach but at least they have the balls to sign more then one playmaker .at the skill positions. Miami has done the very minimum to aquire the talent and the front office settles for less and now this damn fanbase seems to love settling for less . you Ireland Lovers should be taking notes from fans that want to win.

Ireland is a bad face of the franchise but please for the love of god stop acting like everything he has done has been horrible. We have one of the best and deepest defensive lines in the league. We actually have a pretty damn good secondary that he is mostly responsible for finding acorns with 2 late round guys who are starting at safety and a 5th round pick that is getting significant time at corner in Nolan Carroll and Dmitri Patterson was a pretty good addition last year.
The linebackers are obviously absolutely piss poor and that is his fault, i will give you that. The play out of those 2 have been completely unacceptable but to ignore all the positive talent he has put around this team is stupid.
He has given us our franchise QB and that seems pretty apparent at this point./ He finally had the balls out of all our decision makers since Marino retired to take a QB in the first round.
So much is made of his drafting but if you ask me it has been pretty damn solid, especially finding late round impact players which is exactly what you need if you want to build a team with depth. Since 2010 we have found a ridiculously good amount of late round picks that are making a terrific contribution. Miller, Matthews, Clay, Jimmy Wilson, Rashad Jones, Chris Clemons, Hartline are 7 guys drafted in the 4th round or later that are starters or play a significant role. That is good drafting, every team makes mistakes. Hell go look at the patriots drafting record the last 5 years. The reason everyone thinks they are so good is because they somehow load up with tons of early picks every year. Yes, we have made several bad picks but name me a team that hasn't.
Overall as far as the team itself I think Ireland has built a solid team that is capable of contending as well as having good building blocks for the future. We have what it take to win, Franchise QB and ability to get a great pass rush as well as a shut down CB and capable secondary.
Obviously I will give you that our offensive line is absolutely pitiful and that does fall on him but I would give him another year to rebuild it as well as rebuild the linebacking core and see where we are next year with another year of development for Tannehill as well as Dion Jordan taking on a bigger role.
All this aside, I would completely understand firing him because he is an awful face of the franchise and doesn't seem to quite get this point, but to act as if his personnel choices have been completely awful and the team is a complete disaster is just not true.rafael likes this. -
I've been saying Ireland is mediocre for years, but so are the majority of GMs out there. Most teams have the same lack of depth that we do. If you get your head out of your arse, you'd see that. Doesn't mean we shouldn't upgrade at GM. We should replace Ireland, and we're overdue to do so. but odds are, we end up with someone who isn't much better and then we can start right over with all the whining by the Fireland fans all over again.PhinishLine, xphinfanx and Steve-Mo like this. -

Again, I think the only opinion that matters of Jeff Ireland is Joe Philbin. He should decide his fate moving forward.
-
And he shouldn't get a reprieve. It needs to be relentless and the ownership needs to hear it, until he comes to his senses and finally saves his own franchise. He'll be able to make so much more money.Boik14 likes this. -

Err. 49ers are a bad example. The guy who put that together got fired and it took what...5 years and then another GM to top it off and a very good coach.
But then I am still fully on the blow it up bandwagon of GM/Coaches and most of our defense. Our best players are all over 30 (Wake/Starks/Grimes)....questionable young talent on defense along with some bad contracts.
We need someone to come in and broaden Tanny's growth beyond Sherman, fix the OL and get a physical back. And someone to take us back to the 3-4 on defense and sort out the LB's. -
I just decided this year that Ireland needs to go. The mess at OL is the main problem. Once you get THAT QB, you HAVE to protect him to keep him healthy. Even though he has signed some good players, he hasn't been sucessful building the OL. That is a foundation of a great team, along with DL and QB.
And Fins104- giving him another year to redo the LB's is a dream. He just DID that. He isn't going to cut them and start over again. This LB group will be here for a while, IMO. We have to live with that also. -
I think the Lb's will come to be his undoing here. This is a top 5 defense if we kept the linebackers from last year. Even when the signings were made it was clear Phillip Wheeler isn't great. My preference was always Jimmy Smith from the Jaguars but the ravens snatched him up. He was the number 1 4-3 OLB in the NFL in 2011 and was hurt all of last year. He would have been my choice and i said so at the time. Also I didn't think Dansby made enough plays but he was still grading out on PFF very well.
I think for next year our defense definitely suits a 3-4 much better. Soliai at NT, ODrick finally plays the position he was drafted for at DE and starks on the other end with Jordan and Wake as the OLB and vernon picking his spots, Ellerbe as an ILB and Wheeler as far away from miami as possible. -

Well we all know if a certain something happened there would be less of them.
-
We got some pieces on both sides of the ball but we need that GM/Coaching staff that will make the hard choices and clean up what needs to be cleaned. -
Who is this magic guy out there who'll definitely take the job and definitely make us better? For the record, I'd understand his sacking but also his keeping.
-
-
Furthermore, Crabtree is not in the same class as the others. Certainly not better than Tannehill -
-
You know who Charles Clay is on the 49ers? He's what Delani Walker was. He would not start over Vernon Davis.
Crabtree has 12 more TDs and 19 more receptions than Brian Hartline despite the fact that Brian has played almost a full season more than Crabtree.
Joe Staley currently has a 28.1 grade from PFF, which has him as the 4th highest rated tackle in football. Mike Pouncey has a 9.9 rating, which has him as the 10th highest rated center in football. -
-
The rest meh. Clay is exceeding expectations but you're not comparing him to Vernon Davis! Hartline is thriving in this system but honestly, Crabtree vs. Hartline straight up. are you keeping Hartline? -

Sure , if you want to do that , count him as a positive , I mean #1 overall picks shouldn't pan out to be consistent pro bowlers , on your roster. -

I would never want a GM that would believe that or tell the fans that .
Sure injuries may happen etc. but the number one pick overall pretty much better be a perennial pro bowler , at worse. -
Its your best % chance In the crap shoot, but its still a gamble that can fail. -
