The Boston Globe called it a surprise that Caserio even agreed to interview with the Dolphins, saying he turned down other GM opportunities in the past, including the Colts in 2012.
From the Globe:
It is believed (Caserio) is the salary cap guy since Floyd Reese left the team, and he is frequently on the practice fields behind Gillette Stadium, keeping an eye on the roster as he keeps up with scouting the pro ranks and college players. Belichick frequently credits Caserio and his staff — the director of college scouting is Jon Robinson and the director of pro scouting is Bob Quinn — for finding players who contribute to the Patriots’ success, but many observers assume that Belichick is the one who pulls the strings, and it’s unclear how much influence Caserio has over those decisions.
A league source said Friday night that little is known about Caserio, around the league and that he’s seen more as an organizer than decision-maker.

A capologist for what, to work under or at Aponte's side? This is getting pathetic. We need a GM who is a talent evaluator, personnel/draft guru and a decision maker.

That's ok.

That's essentially the rub of hiring a personnel guy. Either you hire someone whom was previously fired, or you're hiring someone whom has never had the job whose best selling point is they may have helped someone else do it.

I'm trying to figure out why I would place more value in the idle opinions of posters on a Dolphins fan site than a writer for the Boston Globe (as per the PBP article) when it comes to a Patriots front office employee who is interviewing for the Fins GM position. I can't.

So here's a guy writing for the Globe- to what extent he's right or not I have no idea. What I can say is that given Cesario's playing and personnel experience, I'd like to hope that he can do the job well for Miami. I'm not bothered by the part about Cesario not being the personnel trigger man, of course that would be Bellichick for the Pats. But that part about more organizer than decision maker- again, I don't know but I don't,like it, would like to find out more about that. Same thing as before- would he be a good decision maker or not, because BB is pulling the trigger in NE. That's not the issue, the issue is can he do the job here.
There are holes in this reporter's story, but my question is whether it has legs or not- none of us here know that for sure. Cesario's resume indicates that he COULD be good for us at GM, but the "organizer" comment strikes a little too close to home imo, given that Philbin has the same rap, a glorified organizer functioning as an adequate head coach.

He sounds very well rounded, played QB in college, was a position coach in the pros, has done college and pro scouting and cap work, I think he has an MBA. That is about as well rounded a guy as you'll find on paper.

I think this would make Gaine retaining his current position more attractive. He's already assistant GM and with Caserio not being seen as a decision maker, Gaine could figure to have more power than when Ireland was here.

he sounds like the best of both worlds. If he didn't have final say, I'd think it was due mainly to the structure he worked at more than anything. Doesn't mean he can't make decisions now or learn to.

While i like that he comes from a good organization and has a coaching background, I don't know if this team needs more nerdy, awkward types. Philbin is enough. Can we get a vocal leader on this team (gm, coach, player, owner...idk)??? sheesh

Report: Pats’ Caserio, viewed around league as ‘organizer’ not ‘decision maker’ meets again with Miami
Miami Dolphins interview New England’s Caserio for GM, then give Gaine a second interview
With Ray Farmer out, Dolphins assistant GM Brian Gaine appears to be favorite for top job...
