I dont think theyre trying to draft the guy that will sign for cheapest, i think if theyre dealing with jake long, its because they think he will sign for less money than say... chris long. so then we can go to chris long and go... well jake is willing to sign for this... and if we take him at #1 and sign him for that, youre obviously not going #1 and probably making less cash... so... why not take the same deal?
now the names arent important here with what ive described, it just helps to explain what I think theyre doing right now -
I hope they're not going to go after the cheapest. Of course, if they choose the cheaper of the two between Jake and Chris Long, I could live with that.

Cheap is not really the word to use. I think they'll first go after who they think is the best player and second the money...Basically the bar is set for the #1 overall pick...There's no real way of getting around that, but they'll try to get the best deal for both the player and the team. I mean, I don't think they'll take say, Sedrick Ellis, who is not considered one of the top 4 or 5, just because they think they can get him cheaper than Dorsey, assuming they feel Dorsey is a better prospect...

I'm guessing that there will be several priorities that Parcells, Ireland, and Sparano will use to determine the first overall pick in the draft. There's probably three main areas of concern for the Dolphins Front Office:
Talent: First and foremost, does the player qualify to go number one overall based on their talent level? Do they have a chance to be an impact player (i.e. All Pro) at the next level?
Team Needs: It doesn't make sense for us to use the first pick of the draft on a position of strength for the team. We would be better off plugging a hole (and we have many) at a specific position of need.
Salary Cap: Unfortunately, the NFL is a business. At the end of the day, it's all about making profit. This means that, for better or worse, salary will likely be a factor in our decision.
I believe that these principles will likely guide our choice later in the month. I'm sure it will be a tough decision, as it's extremely difficult to find a player who satisfies all three criteria above. Still, I'm confident that the player - whoever that may be - will be someone who can help us immediately. -
