Hey Fellas,
There is no debate that with the upcoming offseason alot of teams will be making some strong and deliberate movements.
Some players are on their way out (V.Young, Nmandi Asomuah), while others are uncertain of their future (McNabb, Palmer, Kolb).
We also have the 15th pick in the upcoming NFL draft where there are many prospects to be had (Newton, Mallet, Gabbard, Locker).
For this thread and poll, post your combination of Veteran and Rookie Successor (Think Brees/Rivers, Favre/Rodgers, McNabb/Kolb). Doesn't have to be a QB, and I want others to chime in.
I'll post my own thoughts after the intial topic is posted.
Offer up your own scenarios, it's a exercise, not a test.

Personally, I believe a successor should strongly resemble it's mentor and I disagree partially with Pennington being Hennes mentor.
Pennington is a Drop Back and control Quarterback, where as Henne is a Big Arm Quarterback.
With this Draft and Offeason upon us, we should look to have a line of succession much like GB and SD had in place.
Get Palmer, Draft one of Mallet or Locker (Locker would need time to learn/develop so maybe trade back a bit in the first)
Or Get Deangelo Williams and Draft Mark Ingram, Rebuilding our RB corps.
Either way, stack up on a position and then find one of the other..Maybe Palmer/Williams and draft either Mallet, Locker, Ingram. -
1) Palmer / Mallett sounds okay, but I don't think we get a shot at Palmer without overpaying him and 15th pick for Mallett is also overpaying
2) no thank you, worse than 1st choice
3) OH HELL NO! regardless of what we think of Newton, bringing in McNabb is the worst idea ever, even worse than choice #4
4) see #3 above. especially if we're bringing in OC from San Diego, VY and McNabb would kill this franchise
5) by default, my choice -
How about sign D.Williams, trade down and secure our interior OL?

Honestly....
Mallet and Locker are not QB's I would draft.
Neither are the cerebral QB's I want to see in a Phins uniform. Not really into Cam Newton either.
I like Brandon Weeden, Pat Devlin, Blaine Gabbert, TJ Yates, Christian Ponder in that order and would be happy with any of them. -
If we sign Williams, there's no point in drafting Ingram. You can always get a RB in the middle rounds. This draft is pretty deep at that position.
Personally, I want nothing to do with any of those QB's you've listed. They're all stop-gaps IMO. If we're going to replace Henne, it's gotta be through the draft, preferably a 1st rounder. I'm not sold on Mallet, but I'd take the risk in drafting him over signing a guy like Kolb, who'd cost a high draft pick(s).
I think you add best QB available, trade up if you have to, then add OL and RB later.
EDIT: Should note that if we draft Ingram, there's no need to sign Williams, since I believe FA is after the draft this year. -
make pennington the QB coach
get kevin kolb, or kyle orton
keep henne as a back up
trade down and pick up a 2nd rd pick
get a big tight end and a speedy reciever.
if thigpen is still under contract for next year, and we get a starting caliber QB FA, then im cool with waiting till next year to spend another draft pick on a QB...IF we have to. -
In all honesty, none of the above.
Lewis has said Palmer is going nowhere and I don't want Mcnabb or YoungOphinerated and ToddsPhins like this. -

Dont want Young.
Would love to sign Deangelo ... OMG!!!!
Draft Weeden or Devlin -
Don't forget, include your own options. These are my opinions of our options. I'd like to hear yours.
Palmer and Ingram would be great too---but I want to load up on QB's OR RB's. -

I agree with NJ - none of the above.
I am not about to trade for a veteran QB and then draft a QB in round 1 (which is what I'd have to do to get those guys). If I trade for or sign in free agency a vet - I am expecting him to start and I then am going to surround him with as much talent as possible. Miami can't afford to then draft a QB in round 1!
Especially with only two picks in 1st 3 rounds.
If you land (pipe dream on Palmer, but just to play the game ...) Palmer, McNabb or Young ... you go with either OL or RB in round 1 and load up on as many offensive players as possible.
The only defensive spot I'm thinking about in the draft (though I would also shore up other areas via free agency if possible) is ILB. Lose Crowder; get a new guy in the fold. Though I'd love to see AJ Edds come back full speed and actually win that job. That would be wonderful. But, Don't know how tough he'll be on the inside against the run. Big Q-mark there.NJFINSFAN1 likes this. -
How about these?
-Trade for Orten, Draft J. Jones, Draft Greg McElroy in 4th
-Trade for Orten, Draft Ingram, Draft Greg McElroy in 4th
-Trade for Orten, Draft Locker/Mallett -
I did the Doug Williams/Mark Ingram

To the OP:
Why not include Gabbert in your poll? You have Newton for 2 of the 5 choices. Projecting much? lol
Anyhow, why would you want Newton? Did you watch him the other night? Did you notice how he had to look over to the sidelines for the read every single play? He's not going to do anything in the NFL. -
Anyway I chose the option to acquire DeAngelo Williams and draft Mark Ingram.MarinePhinFan and NolePhin15 like this. -
Trade down to the 20's and pick up a 2nd round pick.
With our #1 pick take Kyle Rudolph TE Notre Dame
With our # 2 pick get the best RB available
With our #3 pick get the best OG available
If we can't really upgrade the talent at QB we are going to have to upgrade the talent around the QB. A good TE is really the best way to do that. Dallas Clark has bailed out Peyton I dont know how many times. -

None of em.

Not a fan of Mallet, Newton or Locker. I do like Deangelo Williams, but I wouldn't take Ingram after signing Williams. My guess is that we sign Young and Williams then draft Yates and another back (maybe Ryan Williams). I'm also looking for a receiving TE and an interior OL. Its not ideal at the QB position, but I think its the best you can do in a bad year.

The only reason why Gabbert wasn't included is because he's supposed to go 1-5 in the draft. We have NO chance at him. -
you forgot the none of the above option...

Yeah, I noticed that. I don't think I can change it.
