For a supposed offensive "guru", Gase sure is having a lot of trouble getting the offense up to par.

Unfortunately. That turd also got Gase's stamp of approval despite being retired and coming off season ending shoulder surgery on his throwing arm.

 

What would you have done? Roll with Moore? He didn't do well either.

I think it's fair to criticize Gase for not coaching up a better offense, even after losing his starting QB, but I find it hard to criticize him for signing Cutler given the lack of good options available at the time.

 

First off, if there was never the confidence in Moore to take over the starting job, why the **** is he here?

Second, considering Tannehill was coming off a major knee injury, and there wasn't confidence in Moore to take the starting role should there be a setback with Tannehill, then there should have been a contingency plan in place for a competent backup for a possible situation that did arise. IOW, why the **** are we not developing any young talent behind Tannehill and are seemingly satisfied with an aging, below average, career backup.

Third, there was a viable starting QB to be had, who has actually won a postseason game, that also fit our offense.

Some people just needed to swallow their pride and do what was best for the team instead of coaxing a $10 million dollar turd burglar out of retirement. And don't give me the "Jay knew the offense" BS. That intangible did absolutely no good. You could see the Cutler train wreck coming from miles away.

 

Easy to say in hindsight. But unless your ability to "see train wrecks" with FA signings is beyond human, I can't criticize Gase for choosing a QB that knew the offense better. It seemed like a good decision at the time given the options available.

No need to rehash again but Cap was the right option..could of been a cool story, on a franchise that embraces the cause, with a playmaking qb...

 

I agree, given the circumstances and the timing of Tannehill getting hurt, Jay Cutler was the best option at trying to salvage the season. It was the start of the year for crying out loud and I doubt anyone wanted to believe that the season was already over. We waited what? Eight months for some football? Just to have Tannehill get hurt. There was no better option than Cutler at the time. Maybe Kap? Maybe we make the trade for Jacoby Brissett instead of the Colts doing it, I don't know. Jay Cutler was the best fit at the time, the team was killed with injuries this year, we had turmoil in the locker room, cocaine everywhere, and yet we still were 4-4 at the halfway mark of the season, and we still had an outside shot at the playoffs going into week 16. You can't expect much more than that. The entire team had issues this season, it wasn't just Cutler who was bad at times, everyone had their moments with that. People just love to blame to QB whenever things go wrong and after that it's always the coach. Those happen to be the two most integral positions in pro football.
With that said, i'm glad the season is over, and i'm glad that Jay Cutler has retired once again.

I had it called from the get-go. Many did. Cutler was a disaster in the waiting.

 

Yeah, no offense, because I like Tebow as a person. But Colin Kaepernick is the better quarterback by miles.

 

Yeah.. easy to point to one prediction and say you got it right. What I meant by "ability to see train wrecks being beyond human" is that no one can do that consistently. And if no one (not even you) can get those predictions right consistently, then it's hypocritical to act like it was "obvious" at the time that signing Cutler was a mistake.

btw.. you're free to prove otherwise and show us you can consistently predict which FA signings will work out or won't.

 

No problem. I had to leave another Dolphin site b/c I wasn't drinking the kool-aid. I could dig it up from there, but I enjoy anonymity, and don't want to promote that other grubby site.

I vehemently disagreed with the trade with Philly to move down in the draft and accept Alonso and Maxwell - now Maxwell is gone and Alonso is stealing money; I called Cutler a failure signing from the very beginning; said the position change from Mike to Will wouldn't help Alonso b/c it's the overall scheme he doesn't fit, not just the position; I had concerns over the Timmons signing b/c he had played in a 2 gap 3-4 his entire pro career and he wouldn't transition well to a one gap 4-3 noted Julius Thomas' laziness and ineffectiveness in Denver and Jacksonville but was told that Gase knew better because he worked with him prior and we should take his word over his teammates testimonies; Branch was extended too early as was Alonso; I approved of resigning Stills as he is a valuable commodity; I was 50/50 on the signing of Nate Allen b/c we desperately needed a FS, but he was a lower caliber player on the decline.

I'll keep you clued in as the offseason progresses.

 

That isn't enough. You can't say every move sucks and expect us to be impressed. We are going to need VERY detailed analysis of who you WOULD choose now and why they would be a good fit.

 

We are just tired of all the people who suddenly become geniuses after a bad season. LOL. And here you are.

I think you're taking things out of context. Personally, I have no problem with people who say we've seen ineptitude in this franchise way too long (in fact I'd agree with that!).

The issue here was someone proclaiming they can predict which FA signings will succeed or fail consistently (i.e. "geniuses") and because he has this ability one can't just dismiss his criticism of Gase's signing of Cutler as "being right by chance".

It's also a bit early but again just my opinion the problem was not so much Cutler, though also was part of the problem. Really don't think there was anyone out there that could have saved this team from being much better. For the meat of the problem IMO starts with the whole dysfunctional organization where Gase is actually more the problem than the QB who ever we picked and from the HC's abilities the structure and quality of this team would be built. Just don't see the expertise from the 2 years he's been here to feel that we are even in good hands. Hey I could be wrong and hope I am. Had little problem with Cutler to begin with due to giving faith that Gase knew more than he really might have...
IMO the problem stemmed then and continues now with the poor leadership and until that gets fixed we're screwed....

Another year and we will see....just hope that the powers to be can recognize it and not be fooled by just missing or even making the playoffs when the level of dysfunction, confusion and lack of professionalism is so clearly evident...

 

Football bust? He played one season, started only half of it and he's won more playoff games than all the Miami QB's combined for the past 15+ years. I'm not saying that Tebow was an amazing QB though- I was simply showing how he compares well to Kaepernick by your misguided standards.

 

Well, you could do that...or you could simply admit why you're not at that other site anymore. Either they banned you or you left because of "other people" that you didn't get along with. And when you're already starting to have those same issues here, it would make sense to take a half-step back and ask....was it really those other people that were the problem?

Communication and respect are both a two-way street- giving a little goes a very long way when it comes to online forums.

I'm not trying to call you out, by the way...I'm simply trying to help ensure that you have a great time here long-term. You're smart and know football- that's awesome! But you also have to realize that some folks here don't hate Gase or others because we had one tough season under him. And there's a few (like myself) that will say Gase did really darn good for a season where we lost our QB1, RB1, our opening home game, our bye week, all the travel, lost practices, etc.

If you want folks to respect your viewpoint. then you just need to respect theirs as well. That doesn't mean you can't say they're wrong- just do it in a respectful way.

This. There is a severe propensity (especially in the mains) for folks to come wandering through after long time posters will exhaustively detail a particular situation after analysis, film study, etc., and want credit for a pithy comment about how bad a particular player is after the fact. They don't give a thoughtful measured response with analysis and study BEFORE or at the time we get someone, but instead come in with perfect 20-20 hindsight and declare how amazing they are.

Cygni, I am not saying you are falling 100% in that trap, but it is close. Focus on adding more value to the site instead of proclaiming your greatness and denigrating anyone who doesn't completely agree with you in every way.

We all cross that threshold from time to time and need to check ourselves, so hopefully you didn't take what I said as an insult. We're all just so passionate about this team and we're ready for a deep playoff run- it's obviously frustrating as hell when you think you have a possible Super Bowl contender and you end up going 6-10. Nobody here is happy about that.

But then again, at least we have each other- that's how I look at it. For the most part it's a brotherhood here with only a few bad apples. You really know your stuff and we'd love for you to be a part of that brotherhood...that's all I meant by my comments.
